Attempting to Fulfill the Plan MNKh Edition

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I'm really not a fan of Plan We Still Have an Agriculture Target to Meet because it doesn't go for the Caspian Sea oil extraction. That's kinda crucial for making sure we have enough money to activate our dice next turn.
My main problem with this is that we risk them both not finishing and then being left with less resources if we just commited to finish one and if we are lucky enough to roll well it just means that we likely can finish multiple stages of one which is also a fine outcome

Honestly, while I think doing at least one oil project is a good ideia, if we could knock otf two stages of consumer goods initiatives that would be ideal. It gives us a looot of general labor, and though it probably doesn't give us the same amount of direct revenue as an extra oil field, it should give us a hefty profit. Not to mention the increased consumptive behavior from all the newly employed people. Might try to do a plan that aims for that later.

It's not a "good idea", it's practically required. CMEA is already past the 40 threshold, and from the passive gain, we'll be at 38 before crisis movements. And considering crisis is at -2 right now, if we start recovering and people start buying fuel, we might very well end up past 40 ourselves. Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of doing only one oil field this turn, but that's what's necessary if you want Consumer Grants, I guess.

Secondly: Oh jeez. After we seemingly averted the destruction of the Aral Sea I figured we were better at water than the OTL USSR, but it seems not enough for our agriculture to stop ruining the Caspian and Volga. I did a little further looking and the problem persists to the present day OTL. TTL, our larger population and economy will probably make it worse.
You significantly sped up the destruction of the Aral, while you are not directly tapping it for cotton irrigation as per OTL, you've basically mostly cut out two major sources of replenishment in favor of making the river valleys agriculturally viable and with a plentiful supply of water and are doing damage at a greater rate. Water stabilization measures are for your farmers, not for the sea, not remotely for the sea. Any of the hydrological projects were fairly explicit and focused on making the water "useful" rather then enabling the "mistake of nature."

Well dang.

We passed up a woman for minister of Agriculture because she wanted to do river reversal, only to put ourself in a situation where we may need to do River Reversal before the revolution's centenary to avoid Central Asia getting dangerously dry. We're a piece of work aren't we? Well, in spirit of experiment I suggest we do the Pechora-Kama canal in the 9th plan and if nothing goes horribly wrong before decade's end we can do more river reversal in the eighties.

I suspect now looking to Agriculture as the place to be vigilant to River Reversal was a mistake in general. over. It's the ministry of Infrastructure that proposes this Volga scheme, which makes sense: The farmers don't know how to make a canal too wide to step over. Thing is, our minister of infra is not a big canal guy and the deputy isn't obviously one either. So either 1) Klimenko himself dredged this concept up from his undergrad capstone project or 2) the popularity of River Reversal is so pervasive in that ministry that even the guys without personal favoritism for dams want to see it built. If the Caspian's degradation gets bad, we might see political pressure to do it under future governments.

EDIT: "mistake of nature"? Fucking hell these apparatchiks probably wouldn't even cry for the demise of the Caspian were it not important to our barge traffic.

Industry + urban living uses even more water than agriculture, pushing far more extensive industrialization was always going to do more damage because of that. Add to that the fact that we're probably still doing more agriculture than OTL anyways (it's just things better suited to the conditions than cotton) and it just gets worse.

Every hydrology project we've ever done has been about regulating and redirecting natural waterways towards human ends. It's just unavoidable since we're in like the absolute peak era of high modernism. Pretty much everybody with any kind of power right now believes that humanity's boundless intellect and creativity will allow us to harness Godlike forces over nature to build Heaven on Earth, who cares what happens downstream of this river when the "wasted" fresh water and gravitational potential energy could be improving human society instead?

The solution to all the chaos and unintended consequences is, of course, even more energy extraction and ambitious geoengineering projects. I'm not even really joking, at least politically, continual infrastructure and energy spending will always be popular while suggesting that maybe we stop expecting infinite growth will get whoever says it fired.

On the topic of geoengineering... When could we do topsoil preservation? It's under agriculture, promises no dividends, but could serve as a decent labour sink if nothing else.

Since its semi overwhelming and am good for doing some writing

I was satisfied that we had no critfails despite the 1 to 4 range... than I saw that one lone natural 1 sitting at the end in its own row >_<

....Farmer Flexibility right? We just had a very horrible backlash against our attempts to help them the moment someone read "deregulation" I'll bet. Second critfail on a reform dice we've had all game I think?

EDIT: If I'm counting the rolls right we just failed to get the oil field within omake range. Brace yourselves, gas prices are coming! We absolutely must push both the oil fields next turn.

EDIT2: wait was the winning plan really one that didn't make any dice on the power grid? Probably best we work on that soon...

The agri SoEs and their friends in the SupSov got incredibly pissy at us.

We also have a 13 on the Subsidies. Well we tried, but our ambitions for a Worker-Peasant alliance have fallen through. We can still meet the plan target on the back of the meat program, but it won't be as beneficial to the Union's future as we wanted.

74 on the new deputy, at least we can choose the next schmuck to run things I guess?

I don't think so. The favor we owed was called for them being able to choose who the deputy will be, at least that's how I understand how things are going to happen.

For your information, this is economically awful. Like, horrendously so. We only got +1 general labour, which means the wages are going into deep shit, and we didn't get any resource price drops. Our amazing anti-corruption rolls will maybe let us point away the blame, but it's still awful.

It's too bad on paper, but the recession is definitely persisting into next turn.

EDIT: With the failure to utilize labor, it actually is very bad on paper.

Meanwhile a 100 progress oil project has eaten four dice so far and is not even three-quarters done. This is why low modifiers are lame news.
