So are our steam engines going to be completely magic free or are we going to make the effectively perpetual energy machines via continuous create water and heat metal?
The big ones will be based on the Everflame Smelter, thus producing vast amounts of power essentially for free. That's the scenario for ships, anti-grav vessels and industrial applications.

Stuff like mechanical hammers for our steel manufactory, powered looms for the clothiers and so on.

Okay, so she's a strategist. Why not. But why couldn't she also be a secondary crafter or something, to make her useful in peacetime? Because right now she's honestly pretty irrelevant. We already have a genius-level strategist, and that's a buffed out Companion.
Still, her skills are good.
But her feat and spell selections...
@Crake, why the fuck is she wasting a feat on Expanded Arcana for Flashburst? That spell is terrible unless you can pump the DC like crazy, and she can't! At the very least you could give her a crafting feat like Craft Wondrous Items, and she could make a few items to sell every month. Or items of Protection from Arrows or Divine Insight or Air of Nobility could be fantastic for our PCs and key NPCs like Alinor or Hermetia!

Honestly, if I'd noticed beforehand that we were crafting this then I would have been strongly against using Lya's CP for this! She's cute to have, but almost useless! She's cost Lya time and XP to be a budget Companion we can throw at minor problems!
Ugh
Still, I'm hoping to give her some crafting capacity at least.

Take it up with Goldfish, I went with most of his suggestions for changes from my original sheet.

He said Fiery Burst at maximum reserved spell level was a decent alternative to what I otherwise had.

She's not just a strategist, as I understand it, but a general meant to lead Legion soldiers in battle. Correct, @Crake?

Flash Burst is an excellent spell against armies, too. It has Long range and a huge area of effect. No, it won't likely blind a high level enemy, but it can simultaneously blind dozens, or even hundreds, of lower level foes with a single spell.

By the way, I need 200,000 pounds / 90.7 metric tons of the adamantine, leaving us with 29,321.5 pounds / 13.3 metric tons for other projects. That's a market value of 12 million IM and 1.76 million IM respectively.

@Goldfish, @Duesal, @TotallyNotEvil, knock yourself out with that stuff.
@Goldfish, if you really want, we now have enough free Adamantium to deck out the 47 Fighter 2 Minotaurs and Argo and Aubert Flowers in Reinforced Segmented Adamantium Fullplate.
I took the liberty of trying to figure out how much it would actually take to equip every Minotaur like @Goldfish wanted.

There's 47 Minotaur Fighters currently if you count Argo among their number (this is excluding the ones that were recently trained since DP hasn't given us those numbers yet), and they're all Large. If they were medium, assuming each set of Reinforced Segmented Fullplate weighed 55 lbs. as is standard, we'd be looking at 2530 lbs.

For standard conversion of weights from Medium to Large we've been using a multiplier of 8, so...

2530 lbs x 8 = 20,240 lbs or 10.12 tons

... You know what, this is too much. The Minotaurs can have regular steel armor. We can equip champions, like Argo, Aubert Flowers, etc, but on a scale this big I'd much rather have the adamantium be used to save our economy rather than making our tanks a bit tankier. They're fine. We didn't lose a single one of them in their first real battle, and they've only gotten stronger since then.

29,321.5 lbs (original supply) - 20,240 lbs (47 Fighter 2 Minotaurs) - 440 lbs (Argo the Cunning) - 55 lbs (Aubert Flowers) = 8585.5 lbs

We now have the means to pull this scheme off.

Essentially.

I'm really looking forward to the next time we get to raid the Brazen Throne. They're just so... so rich. And we get paid to do it. Best fetch quest bar none.

Ah, but Flashburst feels like one of those spells that DP will rule will blind our own troops more than the enemy. Why? Because when the enemy is close enough that the short blindness duration could be relevant, the enemy is facing us and really shouldn't care about flashbursts from behind!
And we could just give her a Flashburst item instead. A crafting feat for her could easily generate enough income to just outright buy it, and it will allow her to make very useful items and share out her great generalist spell list.

@TalonofAnathrax

But don't take it too badly, she does aspire to be an artist in some ways, and she gets another feat at 9th level/HD. She could take Craft Wondrous Item then?
Doesn't she only reach 9HD when Lya reaches levels 18?
That's unlikely to happen, seeing how many Arcanums Lya makes and how much time she spends crafting.

@TalonofAnathrax

You seriously underestimate how fastly she's been leveling in the last few turns alone. She has managed to participate in at least one major adventure every turn until now I think. And she's actually ahead in levels than most of the Companions bar Richard.

And that's just because we drag Richard everywhere.

Her sheet isn't finalized if you want to make any changes. I don't think crafting is the way to go for her, though.

We have a lot of crafters already and hopefully our Dedicated Wright research will bear fruit, too.

@TalonofAnathrax What changes would you recommend?

I give you leave to edit anything you want, just so long as you leave her core concept alone. She's a sophisticated strategist with knowledge skills and an appreciation for fine art and culture.

Everything else is up in the air.

Truly excellent.
Real-Life interruption is over. Time to employ the blackest of arts. Banking.
*shudders*
I will go kill some puppies for some cute zombies to hug.

I suppose, being ECL 8, they are worth it.

But it's still tremendously inefficient. It would be interesting to have them sporting Lesser Ironward Diamonds, which would require their armours to be +1, for a total enchantment cost of 300 IM each.

Would give them DR 6/- tho, down to 3/- after they negate 30 damage.

@Goldfish, @Crake: she's pretty much perfect honestly. The only issue is that she doesn't do much right now in times of peace. Unless you want to throw her at research actions or something? She doesn't have Spellcraft but she does have Knowledge (Arcana) and (The Planes)...
Therefore I want to replace Expanded Arcana (Flashburst) with Craft Wondrous Item, and have her spend her free time doing some useful crafting for us on the side. It's not that we desperately need a crafter, it's that this is pretty cheap for her and makes her far more useful. And that the stuff she could craft would be pretty great honestly.

Oh, and when Lya finally hits level 16 she'll be levelling her Arcanums as soon as she can, right? Well then this Arcanum will get access to level 4 spells, and thus learn an extra level 3 one from Expanded Arcana. She can just take Flashburst then if you still want it (though I'd go with Dispel Magic).

She could just go train the Legionaries into how to pull off insane Chinese level tactics while on peace time. Or hammer strategy and (you guessed it :V) *sense* into the generals brains.

@Goldfish Don't mean to make you feel put upon, but can you add that and her items to a edited sheet for @Duesal for me?

I have a headache and I'm looking forward to icing it down for the next few hours.

She should be assigned to a Legion training base during peace times, IMO. She can help train officers in tactics against both mundane and supernatural foes, including mages, combat engineering, etc.

Or just overseeing large Legion deployments. That could include peacekeeping, regular patrols, protecting a newly founded colony in Sothoryos, etc.

And you are not giving Flashburst enough credit. It would be of great use to control a large battlefield or against a smaller number of enemies, basically anything in the CR range where we would ever expect the Legion to face off against it. Also, it's a Fire spell, which lets her use Fiery Burst to inflict 3d6 Fire damage per burst. If she doesn't have a 3rd level Fire-based spell, that drops to 2d6 damage.

[X] And the Lord spoke: "Let there be money!"
-[X] Talk about money. Explain to the Sultan and the Sultana how the Planetosi economies are currently running on coinage minted from precious metals. Due to the fluctuation in prices across the planes, most notably the understandable unwillingness of the Opaline Vault to accept gold as currency, you consider this situation untenable. You wish to see trade flourish between the realms and for this, you wish to create a new currency that is accepted on each of the three planes involved in this conference.
-[X] You do not intend to issue a currency backed only by empty promises though, but one that is grounded in something both of them would trust. Their own money.
-[X] You wish to sell the amount of 90.7 tons of adamantine to the Opaline Vault at market value for a sum of 300,000 Great Glass Scepters and 300,000 Silk Notes. This money will remain in the possession of your state, with the Iron Bank of Braavos being entrusted with the storage of that wealth.
-[X] You will then issue a currency that is backed not by your word alone, but by this deposit of foreign currency and a fixed exchange rate. At least 50% of all Imperial Marks in circulation, be it in the form of minted coinage or book money, will be at any time backed by a reserve of planar currency. The exchange rate will be for now fixed at 1 Great Glass Scepter to 2 Imperial Marks. Anyone approaching your state with the desire to redeem their Imperial Marks can thus, at any point in time, have them exchanged for the predetermined value in Great Glass Scepters.
-[X] As for the Planetosi economies, you will pin the Imperial Mark at a 1:1 exchange rate to the Iron Mark, assuming the Iron Bank of Braavos is interested in such an arrangement. (We should not sound as if we can just dictate this to the IB, but let's be honest. They would have to be enormously stupid to not jump at this deal.)
-[X] To not strain the trust needed for this agreement unnecessarily, you will for now operate at 100% backing, thus you will issue 12 million Imperial Marks for now and slowly issue additional currency as the trust in your coinage increase. Alternatively, you will increase your reserves of foreign currency before issuing additional coinage.
-[X] This obviously has implications for their own fiscal relationship. If the Imperial Mark is pinned to both the currencies of the Opaline Vault and Amun Kelisk at a fixed rate, both of these currencies are also indirectly pinned against each other. This would definitely be a boon for trade between their realms, though you are understanding if they feel the time is not yet rife for such close cooperation between their polities. Should this be the case, you will pin your currency only against the Great Glass Scepter, due to the inability to use gold backed currency in the Opaline Vault.
-[X] Should they be interested in a mutual pinning between all three currencies though, you would suggest the formation of a special council to oversee this matter. It should be set up with one representative from each of the involved governments and one banking institute from their respective realms. They would meet regularly and adjust the exchange rates in accordance to the exchanges that have been taken place and the flow of currency through trade. Thus the currencies can stabilize against each other and no single party can take advantage of this arrangement. By making said council consistent of 3 political and 3 economical actors and having decisions made by majority vote, neither the governments can intentionally harm the economy, nor can the economic actors dictate policy. Likewise, no single realm can force a deadlock on the council and neither can two governments conspire against a third. The structure would ensure cooperation to the mutual best interests of all participants.
-[X] If this solution should come to pass, you would like the Iron Bank of Braavos to represent the your realm in it as the independent economic actor. Likewise, you would like to gain the right for them to set up offices in Amun Kelisk and the Opaline Vault to perform currency exchanges there and to offer other financial services. You have a great interest to increase you reserves of planar currency to further stabilize the Imperial Mark by selling bonds that are denominated in the local currencies, with the Iron Bank acting as the intermediate.
-[X] Use these denominations and designs for your coinage.
-[X] If this works out, turn to Lady Uraka and say to her with a sad smile: "Years? I'm saddened by your lack of faith."

I hope this is understandable for everyone. It's ultimately basic currency pinning and backing in foreign cash instead of gold.
Just a lot of explaining and arguments for the whole thing.

You don't need Arcane and Spellcraft for research. She has engineering. I have plans for a weapon that needs only engineering, not a whiff of magic.

The solution is obvious.
