Surprisingly, no, the Ghiscari are not working for the detritus floating up from the Abyss. It's these border provincials who sought protection from the Demons, from harpies, and anyone else who might bother them (sea dragons).

So... Did we send people with an active connection to hell out there!?

I thought we were doing the ritual first tbh. :/

They're not really much more dangerous in this state. They signed a contract, which devils can do independent on anything else, so long as it doesn't breach the terms of any preexisting one (such as the Pact Primeval, or derivative terms of service to the Dukes).

They swore fealty to us by the terms of the contract, and their pride will make sure they follow those terms to the letter. So long as we're mindful of their preferences, they won't stretch the spirit of it either.

We are going to break the connection though, later in the month. We needed something to keep them busy though, since restless devils are more dangerous than not.

Someone is marking houses with demon runes to draw in harpies to kill their neighbors (and presumably not them). That does not preclude the Ghyscari from working with the Abyss.

They could enjoy a timeless existence in a bottle for a bit, if boredom was an issue. As I see it, the danger comes form the same problem Azema had - no matter what she does, she was cursed to see suffering come from her choices due to her connection to the pit. That kinda thing. Also I didn't want a Devil, active connection, taking actions on our behalf before they broke themselves free from hell (with our help). Wish I hadn't missed that.

I wanted to make it an interlude, but if you guys prefer for it to be handled in the background (and done by this point), I can retcon it in, since there is nothing stopping you from doing so IC

What do you say?

The consequences of our inaction have been made fairly clear though? Garin nurses an enormous headache.

This is a conflict between sensible choices and good storytelling. Since we wanted to run the ritual when possible to do so, and it would be IC for everyone to want to free them as quickly as possible from their connection to hell... But since we all want to see the interlude, would you mind waving any consequences for their continued connection between "hypothetical ritual date if we did it background" and "date we actually do it"?

I mean there's pretty clearly inherent risk and consequences to them being connected to Hell--the onus of which is entirely on them, since if they die, they're not exactly going to be in for a warm welcome when they end up back there.

Those are some pretty clear cut consequences.

Sure That sounds like the best compromise all around.

I'm more looking forward to him being able to vanish even while being watched just by backing away slowly into a dark alley or hallway closet like some kind of horror movie monster, as well as that DR/10 Silver so that he can shrug off that woodcutter's axe just like a horror movie monster.

-[X] As we answer, gradually return to human form, timing it so that we become fully human just as we finish speaking.
--[X] "Of course, there is a story to be told, one that is all the more fantastical for being the unvarnished truth. That tale won't be told quite yet, however, as I find myself...curious. What is it that you truly seek, that you would pit yourselves against foes such as these, when the Efreeti ships plying the Boiling Sea make such easy targets of themselves?"
[X] "A bold question, but of course, we are all more than we appear dont you agree?"
-[X] "In any case, when asking for someone's secrets, its always polite yo offer your own, perhaps you can now tell me why we are really here? What do you want with this prisoner, and why would a group of pirates risk bringing a red dragon of all things to their prize?"
-[X] "But to answer your question, does the name "Valyria" mean anything to you?"
    [X] Plan Cast A Hook
-[X] "Should not all strive to be more then they are?"
-[X] "You have seen my shape and assumed to know who I am, just a greedy, preening lizard. But know that I am more then scales and flame."

Interlude sounds good.

Onwards with the Sea of Flames for now, tho!
