Noting stopping us, just need the recruits.

I suppose I could refine the builds a bit more, with Repeating Double Greatcrossbows in consideration.
We also need to get the Imperial Stables fully built and get those Hippogriffs in bulk since the design of these roaming knights is that only the captain rides a griffon.

And there's also going to need to be extra training to get the hippogriffs to stop committing suicide by trying to eat the griffon.

Not to mention all the other things we want the hippogriffs for -- dedicated aerial Legion scouts, post delivery service, reincarnation roulette, etc.

Also, I was thinking about the momentum ship/gravity engines, and at last I thought up a way to make them interact reasonably: use a hardened adamantine container as the item casting the spell, dimensioned precisely to have a volume equal to the affected area, except for being slightly shorter in height than the spell's ceiling.

Fill it with Mercury, cap it off with a wall of force. Now, the WoF shouldn't be affected by the RG field, and neither should the sides or bottom, being just out of range but preventing the Mercury from spilling. The filling will try to go up, meet the unmovable barrier that is the WoF, and easily have enoug lift to drag the entire thing up through the points where the WoF connects to the adamantine container.

Control thrust by raising an AMF generator so it touches the bottom of the container and then goes up. As the container itself is the magic item, we shouldn't run into LoE issues. So, the AMF gradually deactivates "slices" of Reversed Gravity, diminishing the amount of filling that's "falling" upwards, diminishing thrust.

The one thing to do is to modify the spell so the referential for the RG is always the length of the container, so we are able to accelerate it like a helicopter by tilting the containers themselves.

Which results more or less into a Helicarrier.

I mean, isn't that how Marvel did it?

DEAD. MEN. WALKING.

I admit that I got the idea to write that when I woke up to a million alerts going "@Wheel of time liked 34 of your posts".
Congratulations, you have produced an Omake without having to actually post it!
Good because I am far too lazy and self defeating to write one myself and I say Sword Sages and or War Blades make wonderful additions to our Legion as well as perfect commando agents or royal guard material. Even non PC Martial Disipline Adepts make for good elite units.

[X] Goldfish

@Goldfish I will say this. Our magical security is admittedly top notch. However I feel that purely mundane threats can still cause issues if we are not prepared for them.

Also. I'm not sure, but is invisibility purge on the security list somewhere? (Fucking QUASITS!!!)

We have the legion, the crawling chaos and several B party members. We can and should have them act as security and crisis management within the city.

Garin should definitely be present and keeping an eye out for trouble.

We should also be keeping an eye out for trouble using our Crows Eye staff.

Because someone is going to try something.

Even if attacking the party directly is tantamount to suicide it would still look bad on us. To say nothing of somebody deciding to set the city on fire while we are in a meeting.

Forbiddance.

Most mortals and all Quasits take 6d6 damage on trying to enter. Imps take 12d6 for differing from Dany in both alignments.

  • [X] Plan Planar Conference Mk II
-[X] The conference will be hosted in a location on the island of Sorcerer's Deep selected for its natural beauty, preferably with Narrow Sea in view. If not already home to bountiful plant life, steps will be taken by our Druid Treants and Leshy, Vee, and Viserys if necessary, to turn the area into a close approximation of a botanical paradise.
--[X] The designated meeting area will be warded with a Forbiddance spell cast by Dany while affected by Lya's Harmonic Chorus and Moment of Greatness spells in order to boost her caster level to 17th level. A password will be added to the effect in order to allow the genie and other attendants safe passage into the Forbiddance area without harm. Dany will also use her Half-Celestial form's Hallow spell like ability to ward the area, tying a Freedom of Movement spell to it as both a precaution and a promise that we would never seek to bind our Genie allies.
--[X] Lya will place a Mage's Private Sanctum spell over the area, along with layered Refusal spells, also password coded to allow the Genie's unfettered access. Tyene will add her own False Vision spells to the meeting site to further obscure the location from any attempted Scrying.
---[X] The meeting site itself will be located out in the open in an area constructed to conform to a mix of observed Djinni and Shaitan aesthetics, and using any insights gained from books and other lore pertaining to Genie construction practices.
----[X] The weather will be perfect on the day of the meeting, even if Dany or Malarys need to prepare and cast multiple Control Weather spells.
----[X] Each delegation of Genies will be provided with extraplanar accommodations created by Lya's Magnificent Mansion spells, with internal dimensions and layout tailored specifically to their desires. This not only provides the most comfortable possible lodging for the Genies, but adds an additional layer of security which cannot be easily bypassed.
-[X] Invite a few people on your side:
    --[X] The Creek-Caliph for Braavos.
--[X] Lady Uraka for the Iron Bank, specifically request her, just in case the higher ups think this above her pay-grade.
--[X] Inform House Adjar ahead of time, so that they might have a chance to attend on the Shaitan side. Being friends with us has a tendency to pay for you.
--[X] Doran Martell as a Lord directly sworn to Viserys. If he aids us here to get everything in order, the planar markets are wide open for him.
--[X] Velen as one of our oldest friends and allies, as well as a benevolent representative of the Plane of Fire.
--[X] Breath-Taker as the representative of the nearby Tritons, the Merling King, and the Plane of Water.
--[X] Relath as a Lord directly sworn to Viserys. The same as Doran. Play ball, gain a slice of the cake.
--[X] Meet with Yrael to talk about the future. Depending on the outcome of this discussion, maybe invite him to the conference.
--[X] Soft Strider as a representative of her people, and an ally against the coming darkness of the Others.
--[X] Bronze Yon as Lord sworn to Viserys and future LP of the Vale. If nothing else, he could spend some time with his daughter.
---[X] If he comes, brief Ysilla to not mention Azema. At all.
--[X] If Zherys has the time to attend and the Divinations to check on his truthfulness after the coup come up green, invite him too. He would be a junior partner in all of this, though Volantis can profit greatly from the deals we strike here.
--[X] Salladhor Saan as a Lord directly sworn to Viserys. Remind him that these are the big leagues, so he should try to tone down his roguish charm.
---[X] Appraise him of the future of his raiding fleet. It is untenable to keep raiding in the Narrow Sea, for pickings are getting slimmer and political developments in the near future may or may not dry up completely. We have two options for him:
----[X] 1. He heads a military campaign to claim the Basilisk Isles for us. He renounces his claim on Port Sorrow or passes it on to another Saan and instead gets the whole Basilisk Isles. The islands are currently poor in anything but slaves and pirates, but we have grand plans for the area and Sothoryos. Furthermore, it puts his ship in reach of Ghiscary shipping lines.
----[X] 2. He strikes a side-deal with the genies and hire himself and his crews to them. They have sky-ships, not sea-ships, but we trust him to none the less have a very productive privateer career against the Efreeti.
--[X] Lords Brune and Velarion, due to being directly sworn to Viserys. While there are not many thinks they could gain from interacting with the genies, they shouldn't be left out and it is a good chance to rub elbows with the other people around.
    -[X] Further attendants:
--[X] Malarys as legal aide to Viserys
    --[X] Richard as Viserys bodyguard.
--[X] Maelor as Viserys gofer, so that he can learn something.
--[X] The rest of the companions will not be part of the actual meeting, but can freely chat with everyone attending as they please.
--[X] Put Rhealla and Lya in charge of accommodating the guests. Rhealla because she has experience in these things, Lya because she has the planar lore necessary to understand this particular batch.
    -[X] Security
--[X] In addition to previously mentioned warding, run regular and spontaneous divination's to make sure there are no interruptions for this meeting. None. Incoming Divinations should clearly show that any attempts to interrupt, let alone attack this meeting will result in a fate worse then the torments of the pit for any who dared it. This includes our old friends the Lannisters. If they try to interrupt this, Casterly Rock will be nothing but a glass stain on a pile of rubble that was once a mountain.
    -[X] Next Action:
--[X] Fetch Xor before returning to Oddo's. He might like to meet another apparently benevolent being who originated in the Far Realm.
--[X] Buy books as planned. Add a few volumes on Genie culture and architecture, primers on Genie laws and legal practices, and any tomes related to Dungeoneering, Nature, or War.
---[X] Buy common and inexpensive books
---[X] Buy a book on cryptography.
--[X] Attempt to purchase Call the Void, Cyclic Reincarnation, Psychic Asylum, Ruin Delver's Fortune, Spell Enhancer, Scribe's Binding, and Wall of Eyes spell scrolls.
-[X] 2. He strikes a side-deal with the genies and hire himself and his crews to them. They have sky-ships, not sea-ships, but we trust him to none the less have a very productive privateer career against the Efreeti

Not even close to good enough. A spell of magic item spoofing to dannys alignment would let them walk in. To say nothing of spell resistance, spell immunity or whatever other shenanigans people can pull out. They put an anti-magic field over their door for a reason.

Spreading ravens throughout the city, true sight, invisibility purge.

Ect, Ect, Ect.

Edit: We should find a way to put true sight on our birds. That would be amazing.

I would also like to know ahead of time @Azel What do you want from our meeting with Yrael?
Edit:Edit: Aside from him taking a long walk off a short cliff I mean.

I think you are too hung up on the gravity effect needing to be a spell instead of an echantment that has effects comparable to a spell. I would rather keep it at the full Wall of Force container simply for looking fancy. And tilting the container is flat out impossible, considering the weights involved.

As Archons can fly, that old cliff thing is not really satisfactory.

We need to find out where we stand. We will hold this conference as the emerging ruler of the Prime Material. Thus we need to know if he is with us or against us.

Part MMCXCV: A Bounty for the Mind
A Bounty for the Mind

Sixteenth Day of the Fourth Month 293 AC

"I think it's done, at least as far we can manage it right now," Tyene announces, looking at the small codex of architecture, etiquette, and arcane notes of the recently named 'Confluence of Earth and Sky' with a mix of pride and exasperation that you imagine is reflected upon your face in equal measure. Twenty-two hours and counting... It probably would have been twice that had it not been for Lya's finely-honed skill at note taking and organization, not to mention the services of the calligraphy wyrms. Not for the first time you feel a pang of guilt at the fact that they will not take pay of any sort.

Location and Security:
  • The conference will be hosted in a location on the island of Sorcerer's Deep selected for its natural beauty, preferably with Narrow Sea in view. If not already home to bountiful plant life, steps will be taken by our Druid Treants and Leshy, Vee, and Viserys if necessary, to turn the area into a close approximation of a botanical paradise.
  • The designated meeting area will be warded with a Forbiddance spell cast by Dany while affected by Lya's Harmonic Chorus and Moment of Greatness spells in order to boost her caster level to 17th level. A password will be added to the effect in order to allow the genie and other attendants safe passage into the Forbiddance area without harm. This includes our old friends the Lannisters. If they try to interrupt this, Casterly Rock will be nothing but a glass stain on a pile of rubble that was once a mountain.
Local Guests:
  • The Sealord for Braavos.
  • Lady Uraka for the Iron Bank, specifically request her, just in case the higher ups think this above her pay-grade.
  • Inform House Adjar ahead of time, so that they might have a chance to attend on the Shaitan side. Being friends with us has a tendency to pay for you.

  • Put Rhealla and Lya in charge of accommodating the guests. Rhealla because she has experience in these things, Lya because she has the planar lore necessary to understand this particular batch.

"If nothing else the library has certainly profited from this journey," Lya says, her tone just as weary but far more satisfied as she looks over the not inconsiderable pile of books, scrolls, and slabs stacked neatly into the corner of the room. "We might not have happened on any extraordinary finds, but it will be good for the Scholarum students to have access to cultural reference material on the elemental realms. Knowing how to fight things is certainly important, but better still to avoid a fight altogether."

Lost 3045 Gold

Scrolls Gained:
Call the Void, Ruin Delver's Fortune, Spell Enhancer

Library Improvements: Knowledge (Architecture) +3; Knowledge (The Planes) +4; Knowledge (War) +1; Knowledge (Dungeoneering) +2

Library Quality increased to 21/30

Dany snorts delicately as she opens the windows wide, letting the light of false 'evening' spill into the chamber, the swirling colorful points of light that serve as the stars of the Endless Sky bathing the city in a light as bright as that of a full moon. "Books quills and plans are marvelous things, and Xor certainly enjoyed helping me pick them out as he floated and chatted among the stacks, but time grows short and there is much yet to do before the morrow... as Embra keeps reminding me."

"Impatient, is she?" you prompt, a touch amused. The young Djinn's demeanor could be tiring and exciting in equal measure, often at the same time, though she had certainly been a great help in recovering the books you sought even while she equipped herself for in ensorcelled arms and armor for the journey ahead.

"She is curious about who we might be interested in hiring on. She has never been in those parts of the lower city before it seems," your sister replies.

"You did tell her we are looking for enchanters, not sellswords, or 'sell-spells' as the case may me?" you check.

"Yes, but she pointed out that ordinary journeymen mages with a future in the craft ahead are unlikely to want to travel to a mysterious stranger's realm sight unseen under oath of silence as well as loyalty..."

***

Alas, Embra's words prove prophetic. Through halls of learning and sorcerers' guilds you pass, bearing offers and even the promise of pay delivered on hiring and retained in the city awaiting their return if those hired so desire. It is not enough. The less skilled mages hesitate at the thought of stepping out into the dangerous and tumultuous wilds beyond the dominion of the Sultan, and those more adept glimpse enough of your true nature from the first to be even more wary.

Thus you come to stand to circle the odd hiring hall known as the Pendulum of Fate, a burnished steel teardrop four hundred feet across hanging from the underside of the platform that that holds the Cyan Keep, the Djinn's military district, by a long black chain that clinks and sways in the slightest breeze. Supposedly getting a meal and a drink without ending up wearing half of it is the first test those looking for work within must pass.

Within you find patrons eating drinking, dicing, talking shouting and, in one particularly unfortunate case, singing around floating tables that seemed to have been gathered from the flotsam and jetsam of ages: fire blackened wood, chipped marble, tarnished silver and cloudy quartz. All are united only in the web of ancient enchantment that keeps them relatively firmly in place so long as at least one of those gathered around it pins it there by strength of arm or will.

Even as you enter, an obviously inebriated giant-kin with cloudy blue skin and tall as a minotaur trips into one of the tables, turning it over like a coin to the dismay of the three winged hawk-men who were speaking in hushed voices around it. Thankfully there seems to be some sort of limitation on how strongly the furniture can be pushed about as otherwise you suspect broken bones would have been the least of their troubles. A brief scuffle ensures with ends abruptly as the giant is translocated elsewhere in a flash of distorted light the moment the giant draws the axe at his side.

"I think talking about excitement and mystery might actually help our chances trying to hire this lot," Ser Richard announces, not sounding entirely pleased.

"It can't be worse than the minotaurs," Waymar offers faint encouragement.

What hiring pitch do you use?

My hombrew is ready!!!!!!! I scrounged up a lot of Martial Disciplene material and it's FUCKING Canon too!!!?!?:o:lol:rofl:
You've got your work cut out for you - we are going to meet Githzerai sometime. Now, are these 3.5 monks or unarmed swordsages? Someone knowledgeable might make a proposal to DP he cannot resist ...

Next time, offer less garnishments, and more promises of retroactive fiery devastation in surety.

Life insurance is for people without a dragon on call.

[X] Goldfish

Still five hours or so from finishing this long ass drive.

Now, I'm wondering how the geni will react to a recovering Yss. I mean, 'the Devourer' is a tiny itsy bitsy little bit ambiguous ...

The following is based on quite a bit of supposition, and may be negated or outright changed later on.

Is Yrael with us or against us?
Yrael is pretty firmly in the 'with us' category. Because he has helped us in multiple engagements and widely agrees with our plans and goals. If not 100% on board with our methods.

I imagine it would take quite a lot (like him hearing about the wildfire we sat on) to put him in the 'against us' category.

The problem with Yrael
One problem is how unlikely he is to actually put himself beneath us in a formal power structure. This is a problem. We simply do not know why exactly, and we should simply ask him because he is an Archon, so we can do that.
(assuming he even can while following the laws of Heaven.)

Like any other sentient being his loyalty always will be conditional. The problem with this is that he is a lawful good outsider. Which mean he will likely cleave as closely as possible to the ideal of loyalty.

This likely means that his loyalty can and likely always would be explicitly conditional. Which is a big huge butt fuck problem when you are making an empire and one piece of your map says. "Not actually part of the empire but were besties really".**

**At least I assume this would be a problem.

Why stop at swearing himself to us?
So we have Yrael. Who can, and likely would agree to troop movements, educational and cultural exchange, information sharing, status reports, spymilling info sharing, ect, ect.

The problem is what he is not willing to share with us. Which is not a lot, but is probably some things. Combined with him having to be 100% 'You are the best and will gladly march into hells gate with you' loyal to us to join the empire.

I am also fairly certain him swearing himself into our empire would be desertion and or treason of some kind.

Territory.
Archons are naturally disinterested in taking and holding territory in the prime material. Believing mortals can and should sort their own problems out. Having done some reading I am kind of impressed Azema got him to hold onto the city.
What I think we should do.
He can and will go out and conquer regions in an effort to stabilize them. Making them more difficult to conquer. I do not think this is a problem, because politically, socially, and economically we can crush anything less than a free city in less than an afternoon. This problem will get smaller as we expand.

Frankly I would be fine with taking the slow(est) route. Just stay allies with him and create progressively more and more inclusive and binding treaties as we grow to trust each other more. Its not like he would go back on his word or stir shit up against us (intentionally). Which is far far better for our cause than most. This would likely take decades or centuries. But our diplomatic prowess and the nature of Archons would prevent it from devolving into a huge cluster fuck in the meantime.

As I was writing this something kind of struck me.

If he refuses to swear himself to us on the grounds of still being a ranking member of Heavens military... Thats kind of a huge opportunity.

Because if he is we already have a leg up on diplomancing one of the outermost planes. If heavens government works the way I think it does it also means we have a leg up on diplomancing the entire plane.

If this does turn out to be the case I would recommend we learn as much as possible about Heavens political landscape and begin capitalizing on our alliance with whatever passes for a faction in the mounting Heavens.

If whoever Yrael works for considers his words their bonds we can so use that.

Wow this ended up being a long one.

TLDR: Slow burn treaties with Archons until they withdraw or we absorb them through osmosis.

Edit: WOW this ended up being really long holy shit. I even cut out a lot of it. No more writing at 3:00 am for me jeeze.

Anyway. I theorize that Heaven in its entirety functions as one single government whos members all help each other to varying degrees based on geopolitics.. As well as all being part of the same gigantic army.

zx, if you are right with 'not really interested in playing prime material king', we might get Yrael to go home if we can ensure him of a good treatment of the mortals he'd be leaving behind.

I would prefer keeping him as a point of contact with the rest of the Heavenly plane, but eh.

Also Mantarys is a fucking mess at the moment.
