We should include a ring of text around the edge of each side of the coins, but so small it would be difficult to read with the naked eye.

In addition to that, rather than a traditional coin, make each of them a ring with a small piece of glass in the center, but not just any glass. We could Fabricate each individual coin with it's own little lens set into it, so that any coin could be used as a tiny magnifying glass to read the text of other coins.

I really like that idea. That'd look so cool. We don't even need to bother with symbols, you could just tell the value by what type of metal the coin is.

Alternatively we don't use a fiat currency and let the value of the gold be its value. If that's the case who cares about someone fabricating their own currency as long as its still gold its just as real. As for clipping the coins the rim marks work just fine, either a grooves like many modern coins or just a raised script of Viserys name and title(s).

It's already not a fiat currency. The issue with counterfeiting, is melting down real coins and introducing other metals to the gold alloy.

Right but that'd give an inferior product to our fabricate made ones. It was specifically asked what if someone uses fabricate ones that don't come from us and I say it won't matter. If their fabricated they're just as good.

Maybe we should ask our contacts in the Opaline Vault how they managed their own currency protection before implementing any system of our own. Obviously not what system they use, but more the broad strokes and concepts. What issues they considered, which approaches they took, difficulty in implementation etc.

If we're worried about people not trusting non-soft coins, we could always add some magical gimmick to it. Maybe make the coins reveal some glowy hidden script or symbols when reflecting the light of a flame, á la One Ring.

Part MCMXCV: A Dragon's Trials
A Dragon's Trials

Twenty-Seventh Day of the Second Month 293 AC

While you are sorely tempted to keep everything, not only for yourself but for the good of a city that will find itself bereft of essential trade as soon as many of its partners see the red and black banner frying from the battlements and towers there is something to be said for symbolic gestures... and for enlisting others into your efforts to better the lives of the Tiroshi in these troubled times.

Speaking of your new subjects some of them have come to see you, among those used to walking the corridors of power. Magisters bedecked in golden saffron and even the rare Tiroshi purple approach the gates with all the pomp and splendor that the early hours of the morning allows and thankfully all of them without any Unsullied guards. It would send a more forceful message than you might prefer to free the slaves in your very... throne room you suppose.

You look around the chamber once, eyes going over the high marble columns worked in the semblance of young women, some bearing spindles, others distaffs and those closest to your throne a pair shears.

The throne itself is certainly opulent, wrought of goldenwood carved into the semblance of haws, lions and griffins, their eyes of bright emeralds, but you cannot help but think that it feels more like a testament to the craftsmen who brought it into being than truly a seat of power. You recall well the Iron throne, bristling with ancient blades still sharp enough to claim the blood of the unwary or the unworthy, its shadow like the specter of battles past and those that may yet be. even your simple seat in the Deep, hardly changed from the time it had seated petty raider lords has a sort of rough presence to it, the weight of its own history.

"Don't scowl like that, you'll make the damn magisters piss themselves and run off. Then I'll be left following the 'trail' to chase them down for you," Waymar whispers though not quite softly enough to keep Valaena from hearing.

She struggles to muffle her laughter in her hand but it is a lost battle from the start. "Lord Saan said to deliver this message from the harbor regarding prisoners and ships, Your Grace," she says after a few moments, handing you a small scroll scribed you suspect by the pirate lord's sorcerer.

"Nine ships... no as many as could be hoped," you say thoughtfully, not altogetehr pleased.

Gained 6 Galleys and 3 Galleons

"I imagine most of them would be...hunting 'pirates'," Valaena replies, allowing herself smile most unlike the hesitant, half-stuttering girl you met months ago. "Most of them will likely turn to piracy themselves now, though I imagine far indeed from these waters."

"A brigand's a brigand whether or not he has a banner to hide behind," you counter. "any captain who would turn to raiding and looting honest traders for their profit so likely will have been little better beforehand," you agree. Something about the way the young Velayon slides from one foot to the other gives away that she might be struggling with herself over saying something more so you ask plainly: "Is there something more?"

"I think my egg may be hatching...." she finally admits.

"Where's the egg? What is it doing?" you ask in quick succession. The damn magisters can cool their heels a while longer. It will do good for their humility.

"I'm not certain if it truly is," the girl hastens to explain. "I felt something from it, a pulse of warmth, I heard the scrape of claws on the shell but it happened twice before, quite late at night both times and..."

"Yes?" you prompt.

"I woke Wisdom Vanor both times," she admits. "He was polite about it, but he likely thinks me flighty and fearful by now."

"Having one's dragon hatch is enough to set anyone's mind on edge," you reassure her. "Perhaps it just needs a touch of extra encouragement to show itself."

"I can conjure no more fire until I sleep..." Valaena trails off.

Fire is a dragon's life, its sorcery and strength, but to blood would its instincts fall even mutilated by the Breaking, the thought comes upon you in a flash of inspiration.. Would the young woman before you be ready for that particular advice, would he be willing to spill blood to awaken her dragon? Gods know there will be enough blood yet to spill into the thirsting earth before the sun sets on the morrow.

What do you answer?

[] Explain your revelation, that blood spilled by her hand will likely awaken the stirring beast fully
-[] Let her decide how to proceed
-[] Suggest sacrificing a cultist

[] Stay silent

[] Write in

OOC: Yes you did catch some minor cultists alive, you do not have to sacrifice the leader for this.

I have a proposal:

Gold Crown
Front: Profile of Viserys
Back: Aegons crown, with any modifications we might later make
This coin shouldn't be minted until we openly admit to having said crown.

Gold Dragon
Front: Profile of Viserys
Back: Profile of Viserys as Dragon
Equals 1 Iron Mark and 1 Westerosi Gold Dragon

Silver City
Front: Profile of Viserys, on the side, there are 10 small triangles
Back: A depiction of a city we rule. For now, that would be SD and Tyrosh, with other cities being added as they are conquered.

Silver Legion
Front: Profile of Viserys, on the side, there are 5 small triangles
Back: A depiction of a Legionnaire. Late also the insignia of specific Legions.

Copper Faith
Front: Profile of Viserys, on the side, there is 1 small triangle and below that, divided by a small bar, 10 small circles
Back: The symbol of an approved faith in the Empire. A tree for the Old Gods, a snake for Yss and a Nereid int he sea for the Merling King
This coin is the same as Westerosi Star within the margin of error, thus if we mint them with the Seven Pointed Star, they are easily confused for Westerosi coinage.

Copper Shilling
Front: Profile of Viserys, on the side, there are 5 small circles
Back: varying depictions of common trade tools (hammers, pickaxes, sickles, etc.)
This coin is equivalent to a Westerosi Groat within the margin of error.

Copper Penny
Front: profile of Viserys, on the side, there is 1 small circle
Back: varying depictions of common trade goods (bushels of corn, metal bars, fish, etc.)

Accounting is done in Dragons and Faiths, using the 1 Dragon = 100 Faiths to have a nice decimal rounding there.

Her own blood will be best that's for certain. Can she afford the likely MaxHP debuff tho?

Also, I like your idea Azel. We might have to fabricate new Gold Dragons each time we level up :V

Excellent. Time to put those cultists to use.

@DragonParadox, can we get exact numbers on how many cultists and daemons we have captured?
  1. Daemons only the ones you caught 'on screen', the rest were tither too insignificant for PCs to bother with capture, or too dangerous for the regular troops
  2. 33 low level cultists, that were either captured by enterprising legionaries who figured it might be worth a bonus or by Azema, because capturing crazed self destructive cultists alive is her idea of a fun challenge.

What about my idea to Fabricate tiny glass lenses into the center of each coin? Hardened like the rest of the coin, and set so as to prevent non-deliberate scratching or removal, it would be another barrier against counterfeiting and would just be impressive to any Planetosi. Myr has a stranglehold on quality glass lenswork, so imagine everyone's reaction when every coin we produce has one built in?

Rather than profile pictures, they could each include a tiny scene on one side, such as a landscape, battle, or fantastical creature (Dragon!), circled around the lens, while the other has a passage from the constitution. Collect a whole set and you can carry the Imperial Constitution around on your hip.

We are absolutely giving our legionnaires a bonus. I love those guys. :D When you say low level, what are we talking here? Level 1? 2? 3?

You said earlier that Irony was able to petrify some minor Daemons.

Well, at least we get to raise one Heart Tree at SD for sure now.
I'm not as bitter as I was before anymore.
Let's hope we get that dagger Azel made for his omake soon.
Night Watch need their tree.

I will mark this observation down in the column for "dismantle the palace". Absolutely everything in this place screams of a lot of money and very little taste. Or any kind of gravitas.

I can't help but feel that we would have a nice place to rule from, if we had conquered Littlefingers brothel instead.

I think we can kill two birds with one stone here. Send her to Malarys, saying that "It's ready, though for the last push, it will require more then warmth. Malarys should know what price must be paid."

@DragonParadox Now that Viserys has the Appraise skill, can you tell us what his rough estimate of the material value of all the gaudily placed precious metals and gemstones are within the Archon's former palace?

I think the idea is pretty awesome, but too impractical. You've said it yourself, Myr is the only source of quality glass in Planetos and this is something where we can't cheat with Fabricate. Furthermore, we can't Fabricate different materials, so we would first have to make all the lenses and then Fabricate the actual coins around that.

A textbook case of Awesome but Impractical.

You said earlier that Irony was able to petrify some minor Daemons.

Yes you did I counted those among the ones you saw since Viserys did see the aftermath, but I guess I did not describe the type and numbers. That was 6 lacridaemons.

Between two and three hundred thousand Gold, though you would have to refurnish the place afterwards.

Okay, so the current tally if I have this correctly:

1 Cultist Champion
1 Thanadaemon
2 Sorcerer Creature Sangudaemons
6 Lacridaemons
33 Minor Cultists

And then the items which we have yet to tally up. @DragonParadox, so it's unlikely that the "elder" cultists are still hiding in the catacombs, or do we need to flush them out?

EDIT: I am so glad I pushed for Irony to be trained for the invasion. Without him the sacrifices would have been severely lacking.

No way of knowing at this point. You would have to question some of your prisoners.
