I still say we demand a gonad* graft from Relath as a fealty gift. Pfff dragonleaf trees are so last millenia.

*Are dragons both or do they switch between?

Part MDCLXXXVIII: Rumblings of the Deep Lands
Rumblings of the Deep Lands

Second Day of the First Month 293 AC

Curiosity may have killed the cat if old stories are to be believed, but dragons are made of sterner stuff. Quickly you call for Echo Caller to stop as you strike the weirwood staff against the rough basalt floor of the tunnel and once more call forth creatures of air in the depths of the realm of Earth. "Let's see what this is about," you say softly, most of your attention already turned to your black winged scouts.

You catch Malarys throw Ser Richard and Dany a sort of questioning look. The knight remains stoic, but Dany far less so: "Yes this is perfectly normal." A smile whose open good cheer does not quite hide the predatory edge. "We might make some new friends..." by bonding over the corpses of their enemies, if left hanging unsaid in the air.

Paying but scant heed to the banter you fly ahead through the twisting corridor and above flights of crude stairs made by some long lost craftsman until you reach the entrance to the crystal chamber you had already passed through once before. No peace filled with soft chimes can be found here any more, but instead the din of mortal battle and blood spilling in thin rivulets among the gleaming spires.

A handful of shaitans garbed not as merchants or even caravan guards but warriors girdled in resplendent gold wage a desperate defense of some manner of floating ark wrought of gold and silver also bound with sorceries so potent that even your spies simple senses can behold it. Though the earth spirits give battle with weapons touched with blessings and enchantments such as are rarely seen in mortal hands already three others lie dead and broken upon the field, impaled on spikes of crystal or simply ripped apart like rag dolls, for fearsome are their foes.

Half a dozen lumbering giants which seem crafted of blackened pig iron, their bellies as forges split by leering hungry teeth that reveal the hellish flames burning within their bowels spewing molten ore and brimstone over their foes. They rise and sink through the floor and walls as they willingly fight with brutal savagery, only stopping to taunt the genies or savor a fallen foes' last moment.

Already battered and dented by dozens of blows the thing's sadistic indulgence costs it dearly as one of the earth genies seizes the moment to jump over the chaotic melee and with her full armored weight behind the blow, crack the thing's head open with a resounding blow of her glaive.

Sapphire blood drawn from many small wounds stains her gleaming armor and there is naught but grim determination in the gaze which rises to look upon the ravens strange intrusion. Desperate gallantry alone will not carry the day for the genies. Dearly though they may sell their lives they will fall in the end. A chance to gain good will... Or, a darker part of you whispers, to claim all the treasures upon the field including whatever may lie in the ark, for surely a treasure fought over by such mighty beings must be of great worth. You would need only wait.

What do you do?

[] Wait for the battle to play out then slay the remaining forge-beasts

OOC: For anyone interested this is only one of three possible 'random encounters', mostly because they are not really random, each one came with plot hooks that would be relevant to story and characterization going forward.

Ok, not a strategy type of guy so I can't really contribute all that much.

That being said I want to get in there, for 3 complex reasons.

A. Goodwill, it's the right thing to do, and we might be able to do some good work here.

B. LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT LOOT ALL THE FUCKING LOOT

C. EXP and getting one step closer to our dream of becoming the dragon we were always meant to be.

Well, we're looking to make positive relations with different factions here. Getting a rep for being powerful (and magnanimous) might be good.

I don't support helping them for nothing, but then I doubt they'll oppose us looting whatever we kill at the very least.

More seriously, i want to help them (people loot is best loot), but i have no idea about how to do It, and i should really be sleeping by now, normally i would just vote goldfish snd leave, but do i trust goldfish to not sllow people to be murdered for shinies? No, i dont (sorry goldfish), so who can i trust to value characters more than loot...
Mmm

I really, really want to just be super selfish right now and leave them all to die. I mean, how can you resist such tantalizing shinies

I know right.

God, what twisted shit we could pull of with the giant's corpses alone, not to mention whatever the hell that glowing arch is.

Also all those enchanted weapons.

I mean I feel like a vulture for thinking it, but goddamn we'd be the richest fucking vulture on the block.

But on the other hand EXP is EXP, and helping the good guys is kinda the right thing to do I guess...

I know we are all very tempted to let them die and loot everything after killing the survivors, its natural and very very draconic, i was thinking about It the moment we Saw It was not xorn being attacked, But lets try to look at this objectively.
-potential allies, should give us something anyway and open some doors (new discount market anyone?)
-maybe something to do with the shair we all want to kill?
-people loot, maybe Richard waifu.
-if they turn out to be assholes, we can always ask for the shiny un exchange for their lives. (Maybe kill them anyway)

Scanderig (Forgefiend) – d20PFSRD

Not very relevant to us, but is has Stone Shape at will.

The Searing Spew would be a nice defensive holding and offensive breaching ability for the legion and it cleans up in short order. Useless on the field probably.

We might want to ask our Xorn friend if they deserve saving from his perspective, we don't want to accidentally burn a bridge with an established ally.

If we make a good showing, they won't go out of their way to be assholes. Mostly because we don't appear to be a threat and there's no guarantee they could beat us... but there's potential for reward.

They might have been on an important mission, going by how well equipped they appear to be. Helping them out will probably also lead to hooks. Really it's just a matter of "smaller reward w/potential for eventual payoff" and "larger reward with possibility of making some new 'friends' who express themselves mostly through violence, obstruction and interference".

We have enough of those kind of friends on like three planes.

Personally? I think the ark doesn't have some great treasure in it... of the object variety.

It's probably a pretty princess.

So, I think that we should open with Searing Agonizing Firebrand, which they won't save against, and then pick off the rest with searing Fireballs.

And maybe loot one of them alive. Anyway, I want one of their bodies for the Trophy Room
