The point is that they simply don't need all that money right now. It's more than they can spend in a reasonable amount of time, given their location, and most it won't be needed once we start supplying them in earnest.
Alright, how about 2500 IM now, then 2500 IM six months from now (after we've conquered Tyrosh and taken care of the more costly problems)? Is that better?

Sure, they won't need the money with the supplies we drop off, but they will need money in general for various other things.

Also, @DragonParadox, you gave us a number of 5,000 IM to 10,000 IM, and later told us most of that would go into restoring the castles to make the Night's Watch look better. So, if we took restoring the castles out of the equation as one of the costs, how much does the Night's Watch need?

The magical dragon statue is an excellent idea I'd support, but not made out of dragonglass. One spiteful bastard tipping it over and it wpuld wreck.

Pretty sure magical and enchanted stuff dont break as easily as the mundane ones?

@Duesal obsidian goblets, platters, carafs, and the like maybe?

We should send a shipment or two full of food.

Also, weirwood weaponry the NW can probably supply the bones of slain enemies / carnivores. Lets give them the, ahem, tools to make their own miracles. :V

That is still far too much money. They don't need it and couldn't spend it if they had it, not before we start supplying them with everything they would normally use it for.

They won't need to buy food or weapons or armor, and they won't need to spend money on repairs, either. How long do you think it would take them to arrange a single shipment of food? It would be several months, at the least, given travel times. Same for anything else they need.

Frankly, they probably couldn't even spend the 1000 IM I'm proposing before we obviate the need for them to even have money.

If we earmarked 20 days of Lyre time in a month for castle restoration, we could probably have it ready enough for habitation by the end of that month. Technically, we could have Xor do this every other month, and restore three castles completely inside of six months. Given that they have three inhabited with (more or less) 500 people split between each one, and their rate of growth unlikely to be 1500 within 6 months, that's basically seeing to all of their reconstruction needs as time permits.

Frankly they would be lucky to get several hundred new recruits in half a year even with shiny fixed up castles.

Also, we could entirely sidestep the whole "get the Watch comfortable with Xor" issue unlike when we intentionally chose to have Xor seen as rebuilding in his base form in SD by having him use his magic ring forms for it. It's not as if cumbersome hands would even get in the way for this--he still has access to his class features in those forms which include his unseen retinue.

No.

The Seeker wouldn't obey any of them and Richard's time is too valuable
Actually we just need Aemon to have Dragondreams, Seeker would follow him.

I don't want to train any magebreakers unless they're unquestionably loyal and Ser Richard is training them for our Kingsguard. Also, the Seeker is simply too valuable to us to consider loaning it out.
He's not that valuable anymore.
Decent meatshield, but never worth a teleport slot when we could take PCs.

Alright, reducing it even further. 2500 IM now, and in the future we can negotiate further if the Night's Watch truly needs even more monetary aid. But I don't want to go any lower than that. A big part of this is reputation. If 200 IM is enough to buy a village and everything in it, and 1000 IM is enough to build your own keep (albeit a small one), I want the Night's Watch to remember the King who dropped 2500 IM into their laps.

[X] Duesal
I want to ask the LC for what he needs before just blanket covering everything, specifically i what to know what perils they are facing now, regarding the creation of Magic items.

@DragonParadox, can you address my earlier question? If the Night's Watch took restoring and repairing their castles out of the equation, how much gold would they need? And how much of that cost would be covered by us supplying them with masterwork weapons and armor?

@Duesal, your calculations for our incoming ongoing costs is way off-base. A lot of those funds have been earmarked to get ACSEC* established, which requires starting capital.

I doubt we are going to drop much money on our shopping trip, if we make one before Tyrosh, because we will want to have our control of trade snowballing right into the conquest and ride upon it during the economic reforms.

This is factoring in costs of maintaining a respectable military and law enforcement, and subsidizing Tyrosh for months in terms of food and economic activity.

All dreams of dropping tens of thousand of IM in the Plane of Air? Set it aside for after we're tycoons.

@TotallyNotEvil Ah, something we need to do is finalize what our minotaur replacements should look like (since we don't have enough for even one legion right now). I was thinking something around 200 men, 2 ranks deep, should provide a nice reserve/assault group. They are supposed to be elite so level 4/5 should be fine. I played around with it a little, trying to maximize to hit and damage, but I couldn't manage anything that nice.

@Crake, that shopping spree in the Plane of Air? Completely and painfully necessary. We need that nest egg of crafting materials to comfortably sit on. @Azel and @Diomedon need it for infrastructure projects like Waterworks (speaking of which, we need to buy a scroll of Control Water). We need the materials for Arcanums. We need it for magic items to equip party members, subordinate PCs, and baby PCs. We need it for anything else that comes up, (like surprise!Alyssande wants to go back to Braavos right away so she needs a Greater Ribbon of Disguise (thank god we convinced her to study in SD for a few months first)).

20,000 IM is actually on the lower end of estimates. Buying the supplies in bulk saves us the time for any future trips.

Also, @Duesal, the quantities of enchanted items you are proposing is completely unrealistic.

50 Healing Belts? That alone is 3750 IM and 19 days of crafting. They do not need that many, and won't for years to come. A single healing belt for each castle would be plenty for now. We can supply a couple a month for the next three years if we want, but it's ridiculous to just send 50 of them right now. Not to mention hugely expensive in time and resources.

Each PfE amulet is 400 IM and two days of crafting.

Before we start giving them hard numbers on all the arms and armor they'll get, let's just get the current Brothers kitted out. We can start stockpiling their armories later, at a slower pace.

The statue of Resist Energy(Cold) you are proposing is also going to cost a lot more than is necessary. I'm proposing an Endure Elements statue that would make a person immune to natural temperature ranges for 24 hours. They would no longer need fuel, except for cooking. Eventually something that provides actual Cold damage Resistance would be useful, but not yet. We need to start small and work our way up.

Immediately throwing money at something is not always the most effective or efficient method of solving a problem. I'm sorry if I'm coming across as harsh, but you're letting your excitement get the better of reason.

Speaking of Tyrosh, what does it's economy look like? Besides dyes and slaves of course. I want to start making plans.

Fair, I'll lower the amounts of magic items.

I've proposed one a while ago. "Fullblades".

We're looking at...

Basically, just call it a "compete reformat" and you won't be too far off the mark. Many industries will experience a drop in activity because they are only viable with slave labor. Others will have some decline but still be lucrative, particularly dyes. I would say they will experience a stumble, but if we continue to shuffle people around and get the right oversight in place, they will probably remain competitive with Braavos in that area.

Some things will die off, people will be diverted to other industries, or else those without work will be offered the chance to relocate to where there will almost certainly be something for them to do. Most will take the offer of resettlement if it means even a hot meal every day. We'd likely guarantee more than that: housing and stability.

After we hit it and topple it's slave based economy? Nothing much. :V

The idea is to set up a toll for all north/south trade, once we've secured the stepstones to keep the cash incoming while Tyrosh reorganizes it's economy.

Right. I remember being unhappy about something about it. *shrugs* Might have just been "they're not minotaurs," which my own attempts will have cured.

Yes but what are Tyrosh's industries besides dyes?

Slaves (they're the most aggressive slave takers). Fancy pants decorative helmets/armor for rich people. Torture devices to use on slaves.

Dye is their real trade good. Dyes are very valuable before we invented modern chemistry.

Edit: Ah yeah, I forgot liquor. Most places makes some local liquor, but Tyrosh makes pear brandy.
