"Which is why it is going into a lead box and Ser Richard is holding on to it," Viserys replied. At her curious look he explained, "He is too stubborn to see with magic."

The best part about this sentence is that Viserys was not joking, did not speak with the air of jest, or was even aware it could be construed as a jape.

This situation is pretty irritating.

Rhaella wants to know more of the world, and is getting anxious at us hiding things from her.
Yet Rhaella is overwhelmed by what we have told her.
Rhaella wants to know what the Frost Dragon said to us, potentially leading into "that attack was because of me?"
It's potentially dangerous to speak freely Beyond the Wall.

I greatly look forward to Castle Black. Then we can get Rhaella and Aemon up to speed all at once.

Also, @DragonParadox, can you tell us what the normal chunks of ice were and what the enchanted ice is?

It's almost as if traumatised humans aren't rational actors :V

More seriously, @DragonParadox is she just asking us what the Frost Dragon said? Want to confirm before I write a vote.

Hah! Blue Ice, called it! Looks like a lot of it too. Guess we're getting those refrigerators. So how much was there? A dragons body worth or did only parts of it turn to blue ice?

Dany already summarized it fairly well.

If we wanted to expand, it was basically trying to taunt us into the sky where it would have the advantage, by making insults and threats, and promising death and oblivion and blah, blah, blah. Failing that, it was making it clear it was content to wait until Visery's and Dany's protective magics faded.

Fortunately, our uncle's gift has already proven it's worth by letting us seek it out and strike it.

Blue Ice said:
Found only in the depths of the most ancient glaciers, veins of blue ice are often sought out by glacier dwarves. It appears as dark blue, opaque ice that sparkles in light as if it were coated with a tiny film of gemstones; this is merely a thin layer of frost that forms over its surface when exposed to air. The material is cold and feels identical to regular ice upon casual observation, but blue ice only melts under intense and direct application of heat, similar to iron. Those who mine this material from the ancient glaciers often do so simply by melting away the surrounding ice; this is a dangerous procedure, though, since it can rapidly destabilize the surrounding ice. As a result, only the most gifted miners attempt to mine blue ice.

Blue ice can be forged, shaped, and utilized as if it were iron. Blue ice is much lighter than iron, and when forged into a slashing weapon it keeps its edge much longer and is much sharper than an equally forged iron weapon. Slashing weapons made of blue ice have a +1 enhancement bonus on damage. Bludgeoning or piercing weapons can be made of blue ice, but they gain no bonuses to damage. All weapons made of blue ice weigh half as much as normal.

Blue ice isn't just useful to make slashing weapons, though; it can be used to build anything that is normally built of iron. Many dwarven fortresses in the frostfell make heavy use of blue ice for metal components such as nails, tools, door hinges, utensils, and pretty much anything else they can think of; blue ice goblets and mugs are especially popular for export to warmer climates since they keep their contents chilled. A room lined with sheets of blue ice remains at a constant temperature of about freezing, making for an effective way to create refrigerated chambers for food storage. Items made out of blue ice weigh half as much as normal.

Blue ice armor is much lighter than normal armor, although it can be uncomfortable to wear for creatures not immune or resistant to cold. Only armor normally fashioned of metal can be made from blue ice. Most blue ice armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations, so that medium armor counts as light armor, and heavy armor counts as medium armor. Light armor remains light armor. Spell failure chances for arcane spells remains unchanged, with the exception of spells with the cold descriptor, which can be cast while wearing blue ice armor with no chance of spell failure. Maximum Dexterity bonus is increased by 1, and armor check penalties are lessened by 2. If the creature wearing the armor is not resistant or immune to cold, he takes a -1 penalty on Reflex saving throws and initiative checks from the general numbness caused by the armor. The Cold Endurance feat is enough to prevent this effect.

Blue ice has 20 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.

Things we can make this into:

Cups, mugs, goblets that chill drinks. No added magic needed.

Chamber which refrigerates food and drink placed in it. Frozen desserts are now practical. No magic needed. (The above is probably better--still get to benefit from this novelty, but more of it can go to other projects).

Enchanted weapons, likely with more bells and whistles attached.

Well the first was the dragon's bones and the second Viserys suspects was its heart.
Okay. This stuff is way too valuable to waste on a trophy, and I'd be perfectly happy with a marble statue trophy honestly.

@Goldfish, what do we want to use this for?

... You know, I'm slightly tempted to save this stuff for later then give the Starks an artifact-level armor made of this stuff. Maybe a weapon, too. Kings of Winter indeed. Bonus points for Robb Stark being a baby PC, so it can go to him.

She can make PfE amulets, but a base cost of 400 IM is something I'd want to use Lya's discount on when crafted in bulk. She can make the healing belts, though. The base cost of 75 IM is something where the discount is more or less negligible.
It's a percentage discount. It doesn't matter if she makes 10 items for 1000 IM each or 100 for 100 IM.

Letting her only craft a few cheap items just wastes her time.

Put one big piece in a lagoon and you have a place for Selkies to chill.

... Screw it. Royal refrigerator. We're getting that for our kitchens.

But I want at least one weapon crafted out of this stuff to give to Jon Snow or Robb Stark.

The blue ice also provides an immediate solution to the poor selkie's issues. A chilled pool for them would probably be appreciated.

Refrigeration likely isn't a huge deal for us, since we have chests of purification, unless we come up with some clear further application, but ice goblets would be the envy of everyone. Humans love chilled drinks.

If they aren't as annoying as the two we've already got, then sure. Otherwise I'm not inclined to waste something so valuable on them. :anger:

EDIT: But I definitely want a Blue Ice refrigerator and one weapon for the Starks.
EDIT 2: Blue Ice refrigerator would be a wonderful collector's item for our new fortress, btw. Having the best kitchens is part of the plan.

Armor of the Winter Wolf: This fully articulated suit of plate is wrought neither from bronze, iron nor steel, yet bent to purpose with the same pliability and masterful craftsmanship as could be done with any material so mundane. It is forged of deepest blue ice, with countless runes of the First Men etched onto many an exposed surface. A pauldron in the shape of a wolf with its teeth bared rests upon one shoulder, and in the bright sheen of true silver upon the cuirass the emblematic heraldry of the Kings of Winter: a snarling dire wolf.

@Crake, hell yes. We could probably manage this, a blade or other weapon, our coveted refrigerator, and a big chunk in the lagoon for selkies.
