Something within you vibrates like the strings of a lyre with a note you cannot name not in all the tongues of men and spirits, not even in the tongue of dragons.

"What happened?" Lya asks as she catches up to you down the long stretch of empty corridor. Ser Richard and Mereth had already stopped dead in their tracks, but they are looking for an external threat.
This section could do with a formal scene break as we jump from the ongoing coronation to having a chat in a hallway, presumably leaving the throne room and heading for the banquet.

Power and Patronage

Thirtieth Day of the Fourth Month 294 AC

"Even if you offered nothing except earnest friendship, you would still be welcome in these halls. The cruel Masters of Ghis and the mindless dead are as much the Imperium's foes as they are of all sane people, and gladly I will speak with you about what common cause can be made against them," you reply graciously and not without a measure of relief. After the mess that was dealing with the representatives of Yi Ti, a delegation that is forthright about both its nature and purpose is a relief, even when that purpose includes asking you to protect an exposed land half a world away.

Lhazar is not Quarth and it will never be the treasure trove that the City on the Jade Gates is, but its people deserve protection no less than any others, and it is a time honored tradition to seek that protection with the mighty realms of the age. You can certainly do better than the bloody Dothraki Khalassars.

You catch sight of Rhango in the crowd, and to your surprise you also catch a knowing smile on his weather-beaten face. Whether he had actually guessed your thoughts or is amused that the 'Lamb Men' had come to you for succor, you cannot say nor does it truly matter. You have meetings to attend. "What happened?" Lya asks as she catches up to you down the long stretch of empty corridor. Ser Richard and Mereth had already stopped dead in their tracks, but they are looking for an external threat.

Fragments of words and and echoes of feelings tumble through your mind at the edge of perception; fear, regret, determination. They are phantom feelings with no beginning, middle, or end that you can make sense of. "Ward check me," you say tersely.

Ser Richard curses sharply under his breath, his expression clearly showing that he would dearly like an enemy to stab right about now. You can sympathize. Even as the echoes fade, Lya looks up from her task, eyes still shining with divination magics but no clear answers. Nothing had influenced your mind unduly as far as she can tell.

"I think we should perform some divinations to delve further into this. And just to be sure, ask, er... the Old Gods." Though the only witnesses beyond the four of you are likely to be watcher mimics, she avoids speaking Bloodraven's name so as to preserve whatever last few days of anonymity he might have. It is, however, the talk of gods and champions in general that gives you the answer.

"Oh... how did the old saying go? I expected this, but not so soon," you jest a little faintly. Today was already the day in which you have taken responsibility for the fate of the Imperium and its citizens, you had not expected it to be the day you would be directly responsible for the soul of one of those same citizens. You had expected study, perhaps research.

"That is usually the lady's line," Lya quips back automatically, though with the advantages of two heads to think with it does not take her a moment longer to realize what you mean. "You are sponsoring someone's magic. That is a soul connection. It's not an attack of any kind..."

"And is flows in only one direction," Mereth finishes, to your surprise. At Ser Richard's inquiring look, she adds, "Do you think any Arch-Duke would allow worshipers if they could be easily attacked through them?"

"He is not a worshiper. I neither need nor desire such," you reply firmly. No matter what one calls the connection there is no denying it is as easy as breathing to scry the scene inside Teana's office, easier than even scrying your own mark. You see a fidgeting student being questioned by one of the Headmistress' shades, her material presence being busy here at court. Still, you have a bit of time to spare to speak to the boy... Marco, the name floats to the forefront of your thoughts.

How do you address the first Imperial Oracle?

OOC: And done, fourth update for the first time in a long while. You guys can consider this compensation for all those one update days. I do not think I will be doing this often though, it's really pushing my focus. 2-3 updates per day seem best. Not yet edited.
Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

[X] First, clear up the matter of his magic, for the record. Marco, as far as you're concerned, is a mage in good standing, operating under the stricture of the Scholarum. Having broken no rules and forging no deals with proscribed Powers. After all, the very edifice of the Imperium makes you the first of those Powers to be accepted, or how could any of the others become such?
-[X] Explain the nature of your bond and how you have directly sponsored his magic. Subconsciously or not, it was an honest plea for aid and one you answered, both in Knowledge and Law but also Fire which creates as much as it burns lines into the world, for all to see and live by, and eyes that can see secrets far into the endless night circling the world, like the dawn that chases it.

[X] Marco will be given by the Crown a stipend, accoutrements to aid in his study and protection, and you will ask if he will consent to becoming part of an ongoing study to the nature of his magic as reference material for those who will follow him, to better organize such matters in the future.
-[X] At this point, having used magic to process some of the records Teana has on him, you see a bright career in his future, and you tell him as much.

I love how Viserys is trying to make praying to him for power and him answering part of a secular institution.

So is there a limit to the number of clerics we can sponsor, I assume they would have to align with our ideal but besides that. Cause I think they could be really good clerics to added to the legions who we can trust not to influence it in a unwanted way.

@Crake, mentioning the Stillborn God in any capacity would be rather bad due to the lack of a Mindblank.
Maybe cut that part out and just deal with it organically when the time comes? As far as the current vote goes after removing the last paragraph, it's just us coming in, saying 'yeah, this is expected and normal', and then putting our rubber stamp over everything he does.

Sound good?

-[X] Send to Taena / her shadow that the boy has done nothing wrong, but actually achieved something exceptional. You will have a meeting scheduled with him and her to go over the details in the coming week.

@Crake, I think we should leave the details for later. We do have a tight schedule this week, but I definitely want to do this in person.

I don't think there's a limit to how many, but there is a definite limit on how high they can go.

They're limited in spell level to our current Mythic Rank.

Yeah, that's fine. If we're busy, we're busy.

The only limit is that the clerics can only have a spell level equal to or lesser than Viserys' Mythic Rank. Right now it's level 5 and below. There's no limitation on how many clerics and oracles we can have.

EDIT: Faceless'd.

Upon laying eyes on the young man who would channel his power, unsurprisingly one of an age with himself, Viserys does not immediately speak. Instead, he reaches into his cloak of gold and withdraws a satchel, one overflowing with fine accoutrements of a sorcerous make. It would not do for the first of a new breed of Imperial bureaucrat-mages to be seen as anything but a well-equipped professional.

I didn't think cats liked sweet stuff.
Sweet stuff is universally liked by living stuff, evolution tells us that apparently "sweet = eez energy", or something.

Cats also universally want to waste the minimal amount of effort, so but of course they'd go for easiest source of energy at that : p

...And get us the pussy pics photo of the cat already, it is against the internet etiquette to mention a pet and not post a pic!

One cool thing about being a Oracle/Cleric of Viserys is that 5th level spells for clerics/oracles is when they get some spells that are incredibly thematic for the Imperium.

And I'm not even talking about the domain spells.

I'm talking about things like 'Ban Corruption', and Plane Shift (because of our planar alliance).

Also there's the fun ones like symbols and raising the dead. Oracles in particular get 'Jungle Mind,' which let's them be aware of all animals in a mile radius (it doesn't just have to be jungles).

...

And its also when he'd be able to pick Reprobation, basically being able to call and cast out someone for being blasphemous to his religion... which would be the Imperium? How the heck would that work? The spell says it cut's off divine spell effects from the religion affecting them, stops a cleric of that religion from being able to cast spells, and makes a mark on the target that is visible to all followers of that religion and that the followers would know what it means.

But the spell also says that followers won't persecute them? So the spell would ostracize a target in Imperial society?

The Lore Mystery is really perfect for an Imperial Oracle, especially if they can make it to 11th level and learn the Spontaneous Symbology Revelation.
Spontaneous Symbology (Sp): Your knowledge of the secret history of the world has unveiled the mysterious symbols that govern reality. You can cast any "symbol" spell using a spell slot of the appropriate level, even if the spell is not on your list of spell's known. A symbol spell is any spell with the word "symbol" in its name. You must be at least 11th level to select this revelation.
There are a lot of Symbol-type spells, and though none are directly applicable in regular combat, they have all sorts of various uses for defense and offense when prep time is available.

@Goldfish I fully endorse this notion!
Sunny doesn't often sit still long enough to be photographed, but Luna was helping keep her still for this one.
