lt's fine. I'm just worrying over how quiet it is around here. I know open ended votes are not good for engagement and with everything moving so slowly it's bound to be worse.
There isn't a lot of room for speculation in this part of the arc, IMO. We're in such a strange time/place that we're scared to do anything but the absolute minimum to avoid screwing up the timeline.

This. Half the problem is that we're literally unable to explore even if we wanted to for risk of messing with the timeline and coming back to a completely different reality rather than one surgically altered by us. So most of us are just waiting for the boss fight.

Correction: There is not much room. Period.

By the very nature of this "location", we are incentivized to do as little as possible to achieve our goals, as doing otherwise might have negative repercussions, and since we already know everything we need to know to proceed, we have no impetus to gather information either.

Originally, I was thinking we would emerge on the battlefield and try to slink among the people of a ritual that was held right then and there. That we suddenly had to go somewhere else and impersonate people for days on end was entirely surprising to me.

That was in so small part because I was not anticipating the steal power for the Imperial God suggestion. I thought we were going to go with a simple 'kill the architect' plan, but there was nothing stopping you IC so I had to scramble to improvise.

Nothing wrong with the improvising. It's just that by nature of where/when we are there's not much we can do here.

You gave us an option to "steal the ritual" right there, DP.
[] The Path of Inheritance: Try to partake in the Oathtaking and alter it under the eyes of its makers
While going for the architect was an unreasonable one from the get-go.

You know the thread better than that, DP.
Imma just assume the hand-pain caused a temporary bout of not-you'ness.

It was an in thread suggestion before I put it in a vote, it is one of the possible goals of the study previously voted for.

[X] Goldfish

I mean this is diplomacy at its finest. We get the other guy to do what we want, and get them to thank us for the privilege of doing it.

I'm interested in this place DP, and I enjoyed learning more about the world and the period. That snake thing, the early Ironborn and they way they broke from the OG and Storm God, etc. It's great!
But as said earlier, because of time-fuckery I'm afraid to do anything but vote "quietly apply Goldfish's list of buffs, do the thing, leave".

We loot or sabotage every single ritual we come across.
Well, except that time we relied on Varys for scouting, and it was so slow that the ritual finished before we arrived. But that fight was great anyway, and Richard proved himself invaluable yet again.

Huh...clearly we haven't been audacious enough for this to be predicted. I saw that vote and was immediately in the point of "Oh obviously the thread is going to steal fire from the gods and punch said gods in the face"

Rereading the first few updates really reminds me of how much DP's writing has improved. And of how useful Goldfish's betaing is, because the first few pages of updates are sadly drowning in typoes.
You know, back when the quest was young I tried to read up, but quickly dropped it because I didn't like the writing of the first few chapters (and because I found Viserys "out of character"). In hindsight, that was completely stupid! There's been massive improvement in all respects. Clearly writing practice does pay off and I should be doing more of it
And of course after reading this I'm always weirded out when I come across Viserys' canon characterization in other fics . This has totally ruined the character for me. I've spent so long reading/following this that any other characterization attached to the same name just feel wrong (despite the ways in which ASWAH-Viserys' character has changed over time).

A classic combination of complete and utter self awareness/mastery, combined with an ego so large that he has overshot arrogance completely and just assumes the natural status of utter dominion over all but a handful of peers, which causes him to view disagreement with that assessment with an air of bemusement at best and maybe polite condescension at worst.

Unwilling to ignore when crow is eaten or he has to own up to some mistake, even if just of the 'inherited guilt' variety, but also completely unable to accept that the universe can't be molded into one that fits into his sensibilities.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to imagine Viserys being characterized like this elsewhere. I think I've seen a couple of times where he's been a snarky bugger, but rarely do they present him as completely certain in his course of actions or presenting the type of arrogance which has naturally ballooned to the point that it has developed its own gravity well, coming off as merely haughty/fiery tempered/indignant.

A big part of Viserys' characterisation is deeply linked to the power levels of this quest, too. Anywhere else he'd be batshit insane if he picked fights with God-equivalents and tried to create a God to replace Heaven. The only reason he isn't insanely arrogant is the fact that he's a Mythic Dragon Sorcerer with the power, wealth and contacts to back up (some) of his big talk.

However a big part of what I like about this Viserys is the trusted friends, the social-fu and the speeches. Canon Viserys, well... Can't do any of that.

My God, we really did make Viserys become the GEoM. All we need now is some snazzy golden armor, and a cupule of kids to make as our generals.

A thought: part of Viserys' characterization in the last few months' chapters comes from the exasperation of the playerbase. Remember how we reacted when questioned in the Kingsmoot? With the Tyrells? Early Viserys would have been angry but would have tried for a more Diplomatic approach. Almighty Viserys gets a little sloppy now that he can afford it.
On the other hand this is perfectly fitting behavior for an overworked Sorcerer-King who's getting sick of this petty mortal bullshit, so I'm not complaining either.
