"At least he went out doing what he loved: having sex and snubbing his wife."
I wouldn't mention that other stuff, but I would say "don't be so sanctimonious, I know you don't really think I should have. That's an emotional reaction to a person who doesn't deserve the consideration."

The above line though? I might actually say it. Because it encapsulates what Robert has been doing. Fuck-all.

It was more to point out that things were so bad in his court that if we wanted to have Robert dead all we had to do was to do nothing and the problem would solve itself.

It's just that nobody expected for Cersei to pull all stops with her assassination attempt, and for it to turn into yet another "Task Failed Successfully" attempt from her.

If Ned actually has the temerity to be sanctimonious about Robert, just kindly ask him how his dear friend would react to the existence of our dear nephew.

Yeah, and come to think of it, we could also point out "If I had done literally nothing, it would have happened regardless. Even I didn't see how far they would stoop to kill him though. I mean, really, allying with the Others? You'd have to be crazy to do something like that." *glances at Ice Assassin corpse* "Huh."

We did literally nothing to get Robert killed. We just asked Bloodraven to stop meddling with Cerseis attempts.

Well, a real answer isn't even necessary, there. After all, after Robert smiled at two children's brutal murder, and didn't punish their killers, Ned didn't trust Robert enough not to hide Jon's parentage.

Says everything, really.

Actually, assuming it was a "desperate straits" assumption that no one would help him if he didn't accept the offer, and it was just mistaken, I wouldn't do what Bahamut did. I would offer an unraveling and tell him to be more careful next time.
I don't think Bahamut is capable, of freeing someone who willingly sold their soul to Tiamat, he's currently the weaker of them, and as a god he has to follow rules mortals don't, so I don't think that's something he can do.

Yes, but I mean, framing it that way is just impolite... It's like we used Cersei as our pawn, knowing it would directly lead to his death.

:whistle2:
I just want to be clear that it wasn't our bright idea to use an actual Void servant to do Robert in, instead of just framing the Others, like when we killed his wives uncle, or making it look like an accident, like when we killed his foster-father.

We clearly have the moral high ground here and he should recognize that!

Yeah, blue is quite obviously only tangentially related to purple, and he should both recognize that, as well as appreciate the flavor of the ethical quandary posed. :V

So would it be a good idea or a really bad one to kit people out with Soultether Rings? It sounds like the kind of thing that keeps your soul from getting dumped out where anyone can mess with it, but on the other hand it also leaves it right there where your killer could hypothetically fuck with it.

I don't like it.

If people move on normally we can Rez them normally.
If they are stuck to the corpse we are basically saving the enemy the effort it would have cost to cast some sort of soultrap.

There is also the point of "Why in the Nine Hells would we try and save Robert after everything he has done?"
I mean to be fair we did spend a disturbingly enormous, and ironically humorous, amount of effort keeping him alive before his death was convenient for us.

It was like giving Bloodraven a Tamagotchi, except it would burst into flames at the slightest provocation.

Anyone else forgetting to mention the fact that Viserys is (from Ned's PoV since he doesn't know about Bloodraven) playing so much 3D Chess that he had "spies" inside of Ned's castle, and they were there not to hurt him, but specifically for the scenario where Other assassins came in to kill him / his entire family?

And then... stopped that from happening?

I guess we get a little shade on our end, since we clearly didn't stop it from happening in the first place, nor prevent it from killing his heir, but well--we would have thrown more at the job if he'd just asked! :???:

As I recall a subtle offer to rez Lyanna was given by Dany years ago. Could she have changed her mind about it since?
She didn't outright dismiss the possibility. Let's just say getting the offer from Dany went over a lot better than it would have from Viserys, who looks too much like Rhaegar (Lyanna is perhaps a little tiny bit judgmental :V).

That's fair, I was mostly thinking of people not important enough to send dedicated soul killers after, but who are still fighting forces that habitually pull stuff like that with vulnerable souls. That's a narrow use case granted, but Jon probably falls into it so it seemed worth mentioning.
