-[X] Rather than a scouting party, we will instead attempt to make peaceful contact with the sentient Undead who populate Sathar, their queen in particular. This first contact group will be composed of Viserys, Dany, Vee, Sir Richard, Waymar, Tyene, and Teana.
--[X] Of all the Undead who populate what was once Sarnor and its tributaries, only those of Sathar have shown any inclination to restore what was lost rather than perpetrate a sad mimicry of the lives they once lead. This is a hopeful sign that the leadership of Sathar is capable of reason and growth. If they remain sane and can be bargained with, the possibility exists for them to eventually be restored to life through our own efforts and those of our allies. This could convince the Queen of Sathar to ally with us against the other Undead of Sarnor. Although we couldn't justify integrating any of her forces into our own assault plans, she could provide a great deal of useful information.
--[X] Dany and Vee will use Divination and Augury spells to determine the likely outcome of the attempt. If the results don't seem favorable, we will instead focus on Gornath, where scouting will be conducted using aerial assets, including high altitude Wyvern flybys, Erinyes observation, and Companion attention.

I doubt that the Sarnori Undead are Void-influenced, at least on any greater scale.
What we have seen so far offered no hint on that, neither the ones we fought near Tiamat's plans, nor the "normal" ones we occasionally met, like the Graveknight we have in the armory, or the time we accidentaly teleported into some Kahlasar's last stand.
This is more likely to be just the classic vengeful death.

If Winter comes so far to operate openly and in force south of the Wall, then they can propably take control of most of this here, but right now they would need careful and powerful agents working here to corrupt them.

Really, chances are we'll be the ones who'll spark the Undead turning to Void - through sheer desperation if nothing else.
I doubt we'll manage to take them all out in this one action after all-

Good thing being, that even some Void-touched undead are less of a headache than this whole kingdom of braindead Undead.

A bit of bad news guys, the update schedule is likely to be disrupted today since I'm getting a new PC and have to move stuff over. I was not really expecting it for a few days but it got shipped faster than expected.

I wouldn't call this bad news. When the shipping gods smile upon you, accept it as the blessing that it is and don't question their benevolence. :p

Vote closed. Hopefully I'll be able to squeze one last update on this PC.

Interlude DCCCXLI: Sensible Steps
Sensible Steps

Third Day of the Second Month 294 AC

Ser Richard Lonmouth took the news that the campaign to battle a realm full of the accursed dead was to start by trying to treat with a city full of them with little more than a nod of understanding before busying himself with donning his armor and securing his belt, cloak, talisman, braces, and headband. All the spellwork added layer by layer had made the already elaborate process of donning a knight's harness something even more complex. His father would have called it a 'dog and pony show' and mayhap it was, but the dog had three heads and spat hellfire and the pony had wings and carried the post.

Father would have understood and applauded the honor Richard had been given to be ever at the King's right side when he walked into the unknown, though he probably wouldn't be fretting about the damn Kingsguard as much. If there was one thing horrifying Lady Lucinda Lonmouth, even among all the strangeness of Sorcerer's Deep, it was that Richard might take on a white cloak from the King and she would never get to hold a grandchild in her arms. It didn't matter how many times Richard told her that the only thing white did was show blood more. According to the Queen, whose wisdom when it came to people the knight had always respected, it was just her way to focus her mind on a worry she thought she could control. A small price to pay for knowing her safe.

"The King has a meeting to attend to in the east, mother," the knight said in parting, not a mention of curses or dead thing passing his lips. Most of the world was east of Sorcerer's Deep after all. He had learned a few things from the King, though he still very much preferred doing to talking.

"The Queen of Sathar seems the sort to take audiences with the living," the Princess spoke with the quiet confidence she took on when she was acting in a matter of import, all small smiles and mischievousness looks packed neatly away as though they had never been. "There have been six merchants who spoke to her and returned not only with their lives, but also their fortunes all the brighter. While trying to find them by divination alone would be like sifting for a single silver coin at the bottom of the Rhoyne, the fact to their existence is encouraging."

"So's the fact that she doesn't hate dragons or dragons' get from what I've seen," Vee added. "So we should be fine showing up at the gates with no mummery and asking to see her."

"I still say we should have some wyverns overhead." Tyene said, though the tone was more parting grumble than real argument. The King had judged that bringing the skyships to a hopefully peaceful meeting would hurt in possibly setting a hostile tone more than they would help as a show of power. "The folk that built Anu would be impressed by the craft besides."

"These are not precisely the folk who built Anu though," Waymar interjected. "Not if the guess of the queen being older is right, and we don't know how much older she might be since so much of the history of the Tall Men was lost." The regret in his voice was genuine, as were the ten hours and more spent pouring through dusty tomes right alongside the King. A far cry from the boy who landed in Braavos three and a half years ago with not even knowledge of the local tongue.

"She could be any one of eleven queens ranging from the near mythical to the 'so obscure we barely know their names'," the headmistress of the Scholarum continued. "We are better off acting on the broad strokes of Sarnori culture over attempting to fit in with any one particular dynasty or time. Fortunately there are a few of them to chose from. Firstly guests to a monarch are supposed to offer what is called the 'Gift of Peace and the Gift of War', which are what they sound like, offerings that can be used in the two spheres of a monarch's responsibility. Also we are supposed to take off our shoes and wear silk slippers in the company of royalty, which means we need to bring our own unless we want to risk something that has been quietly rotting in a mire for the last four hundred years..."

"I don't wear shoes," Vee groused right when Richard had been expecting her to.

"You don't have to, the Sarnori actually had exceptions for that. One of their gods mandated that his priests not wear shoes half of the year and they were of course free to do so at court, which became more widely adopted later as a way of making a statement about hardiness from soldiers..."

"Sensible folk," Vee nodded.

Richard refrained from commenting.

What gifts do you bring before the gates of Sathar?

OOC: Your knowledge history rolls were pretty poor, but with all the bonuses you still got a decent amount of information. I also took the chance to show how this sort of preparation looks like to Ser Richard, since they are mostly just Viserys PoVs.

Ser Richard Lonmouth took the news that the campaign to battle a realm full of the accursed dead was to begin by trying to treat with a city full of them with little more than a nod of understanding before busying himself with donning armor and securing belt and cloak, talisman, bracers, and headband. All the spellwork added layer by layer had made of the already elaborate process of donning a knight's harness something even more complex. His father would have called it a 'dog and pony show' and mayhap it was, but the dog had three heads and spat hellfire and the pony had wings and carried the post.

Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

I know one gear upgrade Richard is getting this month. We can squeeze a Ring of Arming effect in on his gear to help with getting into and out of his full regalia.

Ah, please do more of Ser Richard's POV! It's always the perspectives of those that's fairly knowledgeable in magic. Rarely do we get any view from someone who thinks of it merely as a tool and an armament to fight.

Also, mandatory Imperial Steel?

I love how Richard was so blase about the upcoming mission when talking to his mom. Just another day at the office! 😆

[X] Your Gift of Peace will be an Arcane Clock, tracking in Imperial Standard Time. This one will also show what the current time in Sorcerer's Deep is.

[X] Your Gift of War will be traditional Sarnori weapon in Valyrian Steel.
