  • [X] Plan Partitioning Particular Parties Propaganda Proposals
-[X] Send Rhealla and Elia Martell (if the latter feels up to it) to Lady Blackmont
--[X] Find out why she thinks Viserys would even care about changing Dornish culture, then unravel that line of thought. Imperial culture is closer to Dornish then to northern Westerosi.
--[X] Call in support by Melisandre if the situation with Blackmonts son would be easier to resolve with her help.
-[X] Send Tyene, Waymar and some clerks from Red Scales Holding to Gargalen.
--[X] Cash in on the fact that Doran squired under the current Lord Gargalen by letting Tyene do most of the talking. Having a 50% share in two major companies, she can also use that to further enhance her authority for economic matters.
--[X] Waymar can help by offering some perspective from his own families positions, and can tell about his and Ysillas forays into the world of commerce.
--[X] The clerks will meanwhile look around the city and whatever documents the Lord is willing to share with them, looking for investment potential.
-[X] Viserys, Richard and Dany visit Lord Uller.
--[X] Get a read on him and see what his issues with Oberyn are and why he is projecting his ire on Viserys.

Part MMMCDVI: In Memory of Fire
In Memory of Fire

Twenty Second Day of the Twelfth Month 293 AC

Tyene and Waymar would likely be able to deal with Lord Gargalen given a bit of help from Red Scales Holdings clerks already quite adept at spotting good investment opportunities. If nothing else Tyene's own new found wealth should speak louder than words. By contrast Lady Blackmont would probably be best served with a visit from your mother, perhaps even Elia if she feels up to the journey, though that still leaves the matter of her son. For that it would be best to call on one versed in the lore of the Lord of Light and adept in swaying others. Melisandre of Asshai fits both perfectly and there is another matter here in Sunspear you would ask her thoughts on.

The priestess looks around the old lichyard with a wary but unsurprised expression. "I shall never understand why people choose to enshrine the marks of death. Is it not already all around us without marking the place where the worms gnaw at the shell that was once kith or kin? Burning at least offers a definitive end that we may remember those passed for their lives, not the manner of their death."

What death was she seeing in her mind's eye? you wonder. Who had she seen upon the pyre, or perhaps regretted not seeing?

"My mother," she answers your unspoken thought as though reading your mind, though in truth only your expression. "We were parted in the slave pens when I was a child and I later heard that she had died. The first spell I ever cast was to see if she was truly dead. I found that she was at peace in the Light of R'hllor." She shakes herself slightly, her hair like ruby strands in the morning light. "Come, let us deal with this as much as we can at least. I cannot give all these bones to the fires, but I can at least ensure that the hand of the Great Other shall not easily grasp them."

She walks along the crumbling walls three times while speaking soft prayers to R'hllor, hardly any mark of sorcery to be seen, a shimmer of gold in the air perhaps or the scent of sweet incense carried on the eastern wind, but when she steps besides you the morning seems brighter. A cormorant lands on one of the ancient headstones and proceeded to groom its wing-feathers.

"That is a mark the Dornish should be looking for," the priestess says following your gaze. "Where the Enemy lairs life is scarce and fearful and birds are the first to flee, except for those who feed on carrion, though as the curse grows deeper even they flee."

"I shall warn Prince Doran to set watch for it," you reply, thankful once again that you gained an ally and not an enemy that day in the Red Waste.

Harmen Uller, Lord of the Hellholt, is a man who wears his four and sixty years proudly in every line of his aquiline face, but only a fool would mistake the greying beard and hair for a sign of frailty. He moves in the sparing ring with the economy of motion of one who has fought in three great wars under Westerosi banners and in the Disputed Lands in his youth. You recognize a water dancer's movements in the feints of his sword, but his opponent, a young knight of House Vaith, does not and so his own blade goes flying, leaving him with the old lord's blade at his throat.

You imagine even the Red Viper must have hesitated at least a moment before setting out to seduce Lord Uller's daughter and proposition her to be his leman. Then again, knowing your goodbrother, he might have thought the risk added to the appeal.

The lord's dark gaze falls upon you, Dany and Ser Richard with a spark of recognition in spite of the glamour you all wear. Prince Doran had told him that you wished to meet and you take it for a hopeful sign that he accepted at once, though that might be anything from courtesy to curiosity. Now it falls to you to see to it that it grows to something deeper and more lasting.

How do you address Lord Uller?

OOC: Since you guys did include Melisandre in your plans it felt natural to have her look at the lichyard. After all, unlike a Heart Tree, having a blessing of the Lord of Light on it would not mark it as Viserys' hand.

I just learned that word yesterday, and here it is used again!
Weird how that always happens.

Oh, and that was a nice chapter. Always glad to learn more about Melisandre. This is another anecdote that really humanises her - but of course while she probably didn't lie, she probably chose that anecdote on purpose, didn't she?
Diplomancer through the 4th wall!

Maybe, Viserys can't read her as easily as he does others, however he is pretty sure she would not share that story lightly.

It was a new word to me, and I would like to think I have a pretty extensive vocabulary. I actually thought it was a typo until I looked it up.

We had the same discussion when DP first used the word (Taena/Zherys).

Someone learned it new, someone wondered if it was still in use, etc.
Are we stuck in a circle of ethymological questions?

I have no clue what to say to this dude. Congratulate him on his awesome granddaughter, who is now among the wealthiest and richest people in the world, and a hero of many battles against inhuman forces?

[X] Azel

Sunday afternoon nap time.

@Goldfish, I genuinely have no idea either what to say here either.

He kinda doesn't like us and that seems to be mostly the fault of Oberyn banging his bastard daughter, which... makes not all that much sense to me, but whatever floats his boat.

It's not just the Oberyn thing, Harmen he is the lord of Hellholt. His ancestors killed Meraxes and Queen Rhaenys. The Ullers have always been skeptical of Targs (and watching their backs for daggers).

Which is nice background informations, just like the Ullers being descendants of a Andal adventurer that built Hellholt and later pulled a Red Wedding on his enemies.

But ultimately... I've got no clue what to say except "hi" and finding out what his deal is.

His entire thing is that he is concerned about dragons. I don't see how that can really be solved tbh. Unless there is more information to be had then doing what Azel suggests might be the best move.

I am pretty sure it runs deeper than that, after all Oberyn clearly cares for her and the two have gone as far to make a family together, it's not 100% optimum a life but there can be a deeper motivation than just general protectiveness or wish for more dignities being bestowed.

If we can identify what he's concerned with most we can generally address it, we have the social, political and monetary capital for almost anything so long as it doesn't harm our own interests.

His deal from what Doran knows is being generally wary of Dragons bearing gifts. He's not actively trying to undermine Doran or anything, just not on board the dragon train and trying to pull the breaks somewhat. Being friends with Oberyn isn't really helping things because Oberyn's social circle does not have the reputation for including a lot of sensible people.

[X] Greet him, then make general conversation until you get a feeling for what he could want or expect, or on the other side of the coin what he fears from you.

We need something more definitive to act here, so that seems like a start.

@DragonParadox Ah, well, if the concern is with dragons, really all we can do is point out that we have fought so many horrible things that want to kill all life or enslave it, that we don't really have time to worry about old grudges (nor do they really interest us in the first place but that's less believable to him, a lot of these Lords inflate their own importance without the proper context).

With that in mind if he understood why dragons are necessary, he might back down from his stance.

[X] Introduce yourself and make some small talk, trying to gauge Uller.
-[X] If he asks, you are here to visit your kin by marriage in Sunspear and enjoy the tourney a bit.

Would he know what happened to Rhaenys? The original one that is? Because that is one of the big secrets and no one knows what happened.
Thing is, if Doran doesn't know (not that he has any more reason to share it with us if he did, that's kind of in bad taste), likely he doesn't either. It was three hundred years ago.

We would have better luck finding out via magic.

Well I realize now I should have done the introduction in the last update. I didn't give you guys much of a vote.

Sorry about that guys, I focused more on the Melisandre moment and did not consider the latter segment as much as I should have.
