Feasting Shadows

Twenty Ninth Day of the Eleventh Month 293 AC

"Of course I do. One would have to be quite blind to miss their proclivities," you answer without hesitation, knowing the key to not offending is assuring the fey that this is nothing more than a moment's misunderstanding. "There are more kinds of light in this world than that which shines brightly. Would you turn away those who need succour and who are willing to give such in kind merely for their seeming or the tools they use?"

"Humph," Dian snorts, sending sparks flying from his beard flame. "and you could find no better place for his 'light' than my halls. The smell alone is enough to get half the sprites to hide and the other half arm themselves to defend the court."

You cannot help but wonder what sprites would even arm themselves with, the image of needle swords and button shields flashing through your mind. Still, you will not soon underestimate the wee folk as a whole. You have seen too many of their kindred rise to greatness as friend and foe alike. Instead you note, "It would be most dishonest of me to hide the company I keep when I come to speak of friendship and alliance."

"Fair words, though I wonder what else you brought along if the corpse raiser is just one of the lot," Deep green eyes look over your company one by one, pausing in confusion upon Elaheh. That confusion, however, does not turn to disgust as with many mortal mages and other sharp-eyed folk who start to glean something of her proclivities. "Night's kin but not to darkness bound, be welcome in my halls. May you find some of the answers you seek, or if not, more questions worth asking. And you in the shadows..." he motions to the Orphne Lord. "Come 'ere and share a proper drink!"

"While those of my lord's company have not yet been invited, I cannot join you," the lord of the dark fey answers in a whisper that somehow carries over the din of the court.

Before Dian can reply you interject, "Oaths Wisdom Qyburn has sworn and his workings proven great aid against that which hungers beyond hunger. His arts are not tainted by the madness that has gripped those who abuse them."

"So be it then," the fey lord's shoulders move in a shrug that sends ripples down his beard, a dozen flowers blooming in the motion. "Come yet forth in peace-holy, eat, drink, and be merry, and let no harm come to you and no enemy find you in my halls." He gives Qyborn a dubious look. "You had best eat and not disrespect my feast, hear me?"

The former Maester nods, wisely not trying his hand at fey diplomacy.

Assured that you would not suffer from it, you eat and drink to satisfy your host, strange fruits you could not guess the name of and cheese from great wheels that never run out, for every time they are sent spinning they grow from the inside out like the rings of a tree and wine in every color and for every taste accounted. The other fey take heart in their lord's command and approach you to trade bright jests and quick tales.

"So then what's this about trade and and alliance?" the lord of the court asks once you had given a fair accounting in eating and drinking both. "My wines can heal hunger and sickness both, but so can your tree, with pale branches and crimson blood, so what then would you wish of us and what trade in return?" he smacks his lips and takes another hearty swing of dawn mead. "I'll freely admit this made a good beginning."

What do you reply?

[] Ask only they he help keep this area of the Feywyld clear of more dangerous beings to protect the forge from any such beings who might pass the veil between worlds here

[] Ask for some of his wines, the rarer and more potent the better

[] See how he grows more of his court, that is the sort of question you brought the flesh-smiths along to ask, or at least hear the answer to

[] Write in

OOC: You guys also need to decide what you are paying in, but I included the options above so you have a direction since I know pure write ins can be lacking in focus. Not yet edited.
Here's an edited version of the chapter, DP.

There's a Template to gain Wyrm-scale size without piling on a ton of HD, allowing to mix and match other templates. More wiggle room up to CR 15 at any rate.
There are a couple I can think of that can increase size, though Gigantean might do it best, at least for very small Dragons. You want some HD increase, after all. Mind Dragoms, for example, work out pretty well to have 12 HD at CR 10, while the CR 15 Might Mind Dragons still having just 12 HD is on the very low end of acceptable. Thankfully, the Mighty template adds HP and some save bonuses that would otherwise be lost due to low HD.

-[X] See how he grows more of his court, that is the sort of question you brought the flesh-smiths along to ask, or at least hear the answer to
--[X] What's the CR limit of new fey he can grow?
--[X] What types of fey can he grow? (species, templates, etc)
--[X] What is the exchange rate? What does he typically have to give up to grow a new fey? Does it happen on its own or does he have to do something?
---[X] When a new fey is grown, do they choose to join him or do they wander off?
-[X] Ask about his wines, what affects they have, what exchange rate he'd be willing to work with if we trade Dawn Mead, etc.
-[X] Ask about the types of arcane reagents he sells and if there's anything particularly unique.
-[X] What we can offer in a potential trade agreement:
--[X] A supply of Dawn Mead depending on how much we wish to trade
--[X] 5,000 doses of Alchemist's Kindness to chase away hangovers after nights of merriment as an initial bonus, with the chance of a steady supply of more in the future
--[X] A supply of Fireworks to enhance the party atmosphere

Depends on the fey, satyrs for instance have a truly prodigious capacity for alcohol, but others are not so blessed.
Might want to add a couple thousand doses of Alchemist's Kindness to your plan, @Duesal. A non-magical hangover cure seems like a great way to keep the Party Fey happy.

We have over 7000 doses in our personal stock and produce 72,000 doses per month for retail.

Welp, DP rated this "insightful"...

Added putting 5,000 doses of Alchemist's Kindness on the table. That said this is mainly intel gathering since I don't think we can just ask for what we need OOC. Once we have the information we should be able to decide what we want here and precisely how much we're willing to trade for it.

Alas Viserys is immune to poison thanks to the crown so while he can get buzzed, the moment more drink would actually impair him the crown kicks in and prevents that.
...this feels Evil, with a capital E.

I ffffucking knew we shouldn't have trusted the Dornish!

This is the worst of backstabs!
😭

He could take the crown off to drink, though he would have to do it in the divination proof room in the Shadow Tower and if memory serves that's where the Hall of Horrors is. That would definitely say something.... I'm not sure what. :V

The trouble with fey is that they things they love most require novelty to be worth anything, so the most consistent thing we can offer them is a platform.

Mass media seems like the kind of thing that'd draw them like a moth to flame. I'd be surprised if any fey in their own living memory had the opportunity to spread their own story at the scale we can almost casually organize. It could be dangerous, but it's also a potent lever.

We effectively have the opportunity to sell tanning beds to subterranean Kryptonians here. There's got to be a way to leverage platform access without putting ourselves at unmanageable risk.

We were already using the pamphlets of ours to spread Glyra's tale (as an upstanding Imperial citizen), and intending to have several shows (Moonsing and Glyra for sure) running once we do the RA and spread the hardware for proper "TV-like" network of Mirrorvision-sets.

Outside Fey though?
I feel lile that's a really bad idea, even such close ones as Orphne court, let alone... this.

That's more something to potentially offer after a few months of a good working relationship at the least, imo.

Depends on how much control we keep; this could be a chance to tempt them into giving up a little creative control over their own stories.

Suppose we offered them a slot in the imperial times to introduce themselves in exchange for providing advice and assistance with various fey threats. As long as we set standards and reserve the right to reject things that break them we could manage the risk decently well.

That's just one idea; we could do all kinds of other things. letting them do the equivalent of comic strips, for example, could be entertaining and mostly harmless if we screen them well enough.

I'm not saying full access should be for sale, but little tastes to make the real thing more tempting is an ancient strategy for a reason. We should find something to trade that will make deeper deals more appealing.

Yes, Titanic, I posted that. You do want some HD, however, to scale your casting.

Been looking into items.

For Vee, thrice a day apply the giant template to your summons.

Allies within LoS get a +1 unnamed bonus to attack rolls and saves vs fear. An unfortunate amount of items that would benefit Viserys as a ruler require the Leadership feat system.

+1 Natural Armor, 1/day Magic Fang on yourself if your patron deity is associated with the item. Something for clerics of Yss. Maybe we can upgrade this to Greater Magic Fang instead.

+2 Charisma, +2 NA, and Sorcerers, get +1 caster level to everything.

On the subject of items benefiting necromancy, convert any prepared necromancy spell into any equal or lesser necromancy spell. No free disintegrate equivalent, however.
