That isn't a punishment. That is a release to the wilds. Plus with the way our empire expands the exile would be temporary at best.
Do they really need to be punished, the lady has been forced to marry a man she don't like for decades, and the Knight has been forced, to see his beloved marry another for the same time, isn't that enough punishment already, just dissolve the marriage and move on, there's no one really in the wrong here, except for the parents that forced the marriage, and they're already dead.

Sure. If the crime was just adultery I would agree but the crime here was the adultery and passing it off as the lord's legitimate offspring. Allegedly. If that hasn't happened then it isn't so bad. But till we have confirmation of otherwise I will want them to be punished.

Edit: My issue isn't with the adultery. I imagine that in those times it was fairly common occurrence as long as no one got caught. My issue is with knowing and trying to pass off a bastard as legitimate. Nothing against the kid. But this is theft of inheritance.

Looks good, though the Gentle Repose thing seems a bit redundant considering each Weirwood Heart Tree is automatically a Hallow zone.

The Old Gods were the ones who requested this. They want to occupy their enemy's holy land and more or less keep an eye on them. Also more trees in Essos has been a long-standing goal for them anyway.
If they were angry about the plan they would have given us a heads up. Also it allows them to keep and eye on them so they probably like it.
That makes sense, I just wanted to double check. Though I'd point out that occupying the seven's holy land and parking them in the middle of active temples to their enemies are different things. Maybe they'll enjoy seeing minor blood sacrifice in a sept more than they'll hate listening to the sermons or something.

As an aside, I was looking for more immunities to graft into the heart trees recently, specifically slashing damage. No dice so far, but I had a different idea that could be just about as good.

How would you guys feel about splicing in ironwood, or Bronzewood if we want to be thematic, to make trying to cut down a heart tree about as difficult as cutting down a similarly sized pillar of steel? Unless I missed something about their hardness weirwoods are much squishier than that.

Just imagine some stupid ass septon and peasants trying and failing to kill a heart tree while the old gods just smugly watch while Bloodraven keeps track of everything that fails for them.

Bloodraven: " so far they've tried fire, axes, saws, blessed weapons, and crying to the father. So they should figure it out right about..."

Septon: "TAAARRGAARYEN!"

Bloodraven: "and there it is"

Old Gods: "that was the best resurrection we've ever spent"

Yeah, the real problem is if the kid is actually a bastard and has been passed off as the legitimate heir. I'm all for just dissolving the marriage when we take the throne, but definitely not in support of helping a bastard unlawfully inherit the lord's lands.

For minor blood magic we had the Great Sept of Viserys in Sorcerer's Deep do so already. ;) There are seven Valyrian Steel Greatswords, one sword for each aspect of the Seven. Blood magic in the middle of the biggest sept in the world.

Either Ironwood or Bronzewood could certainly work for incorporating DR.

Maybe next month we should sit down and do some of the more ruling aspects of the kingdom. At least for a couple of days. Between adventures.

Edit: The fate thing is making me think about the concepts of ruling and where we lie on the spectrum of the three kings.

Do you research project get easier, or the end DR higher, with more samples? If we got ironwood, bronzewood, and Densewood , all of which increase to steel (or near steel) hardness we'd have three unique angles on the problem. It's also a lot more mundane than the fire immunity was.

Edit: dropped a letter.

I think it can certainly be argued that the more metal-wood samples we have the easier the research would be.

Well, ruling on marriage-laws is already sheduled for next month anyway, might as well expand that to divorce and rulings on inheritance-theft.

Interlude DLXXXVII: Seven Halls, Seven Songs
Seven Halls, Seven Songs

Thirty-First Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

Though the Sundered Lands now knit with the Dragon King's bridges were counted by men as part of the eastern lands of Essos, Soft Strider's steps have never yet been east of there but only west, that her arrows might find unbeating hearts claimed by the Great Enemy. This day she was heading east, this day she bore no bow of dragon's bone, nor arrows dark as night and sharp as death's own claws, for she would be an envoy of peace in a land that had seen too much of war and vengeance. The rivers of Andalos wept still for their lost sons gone over the great water or into the bosom of the earth untimely, the trees bowed their dark heads in sorrow. Yet as the Singer looked across the dry stony hills with thatch-roofed villages huddled in their shadow she saw men going about their days with nary a glance at the mournful shadows that surrounded them.

Children played and dogs barked, some dug in their gardens and spread water to the thirsty soil, others milked hardy goats, the false melody of a blacksmith's hammer ringing over all. "Is it that they cannot hear hear or that they do not wish to?" she asked the girl at her side. Had she been speaking to almost no other than the True Dreamer, Soft Strider would have spoken more words to make her mind known, but she knew the child of dragons was in her own way as wise in the songs of the mind and the soul as a Greenseer.

"I little bit of both I'd say, and maybe..." She trailed off for a moment. "Sarah once told me that home was no less fair for the wind sighing through the branches. I did not understand it until I actually saw with my own eyes, but now I think I am beginning to. Perhaps they are accustomed to it."

"The new sept's very close, right over the next hill," their guide said just a little too loudly, trying to hide his nervousness. Soft Strider wished he would just ask whatever questions were on his mind. She found giving answers of all sorts far less troubling than weighty silence, which was probably a good part of why she was the one chosen as envoy almost without fail, that and the fact that she loved seeing new places, meeting folk whose customs were not like any she had seen before and learning the reasons behind the weave. So it was with this holy place of the Gods of the Latecomers.

It stood like a seven-sided crown of white stone atop the hill ahead of them, not like bone among the brambles, or the false white of snow built layer upon layer. The walls and dome had been polished by the work of mortal craftsmen and by that skill also were carved the twin images that guarded the arched door.

The figure of a man it was, beard falling to his chest, the crown of lordship upon his brow, the scales of wisdom in his right and the sword of justice in his left pointing not up in challenge but down at he who must be judged. Not so long ago, a blink of an eye in the lives of the trees, Soft Strider would not even have known what to name the scales, much less to guess what purpose they served here, but she had seen much and learned more in her time in the Deep. The Singers must change, become other than what they were if they were to be at all with the turning of the age, but so too must the Latecomers do lest tears and blood flow freely once more.

"By the Father's wisdom and the blessing of the Seven-Who-Are-One I greet you and welcome you into their house," the man in pale robes said, for some reason trying to speak the tongue of the West, though he did it slowly and with much struggle.

"And to you fair greetings, Brother," the True Dreamer said, her smile mostly a mask though with a spark of hope in her eye. "If you have any questions about what we are about to do, I brought one who has known the Old Gods for far longer than I." She motioned to Soft Strider who boldly took a step into the temple.

Looking up at the play of colored light upon the benches and the hallowed images behind them, breathing in the incense that floated upon the air, the Singer knew that this too was power, but more than that this too was purpose, and it would be her task in this place and this time to help sing two purposes into one. She spoke then of the Gods and the slow passage of years, of her guardianship of the Heart Trees and that which they guarded against.

The septon was doubtful first, then curious, and finally accepting as the last doubts faded and the roots of the Weirwood sapling caught in the soil of Andalos.

What sacrifices are given to the Seven Trees of Andalos, and what boons do the Old Gods grant?

OOC: Well there we have it, another Soft Strider interlude. These are getting easier.

Yeah, blood sacrifices are better spent elsewhere.

Like Yss, the Merling King, making the Old Gods immune to another type of energy, or making Valyrian Steel.

I am wondering if we should save up for another massive tree. We would have to find another dawn tree. And it wouldn't be as big. But it would be interesting so say the least.
