What in particular is so attractive about this castle???

Particularly that makes it worth opening this can of worms.

The only thing that could actually make it better would be first one runes. Which would almost certainly murder everyone inside given its history.

Edit: ninjaed by Duesal.

Seriously. Don't put the first men runes on it though.
First Men runes would be shaped by our intent, so I'm not sure what you're worried about there. If anything it would ward against the influence of evil that has currently infested Harrenhal, and guard those within.

I think this isn't going to be a boss encounter, y'all.

Remember the projection in the council chamber? It mentioned the Great Net and referenced preserving the eggs.

This device might be a stasis chamber of some sort (Temporal Stasis is an 8th level Transmutation spell, this the overwhelming aura), one that was designed to be fed power by magic absorbing Oozes. We know that magic wasn't utterly impossible during its waning days, but rather extremely sparse and difficult to access.

The Great Net might be referring to the massive Etheric Ooze ringing the stone platform.

Now that magic has returned in full, the system is overflowing and the controls are failing/have failed.

@DragonParadox, can Vee use her belt to question Yss' right now, or is his food coma too deep?

My current guess is that we're about to stumble upon a massive incubator of Serpent Folk eggs preserved during the low magic period.

@Duesal @One Autumn Leaf the first men runes reinforce the conceptual effect of something based on it's legend. The legends of Harrenhall are dark. Regardless.
the Great Net has failed, we should begin preparations to safeguard the remaining viable eggs on the journey south."
The Children of the Spider patrol Crescent Pass, they need less power than us to be active."
. "Destroy... might live... the Net... mind and purpose."
So it sounds like, with the ooze and the anti magic metals, and the talking about needing more power to survive.

It seems to me that this was a failed attempt to hold in magic so that they could store and incubate their eggs. It apparently failed somehow, or... It's still doing something.

So I suspect the other side will be wild magic environmental effects, and a lot of mutant lizard folk. Straight up injecting wild magic into your eyeballs level of crazy mutation.

Edit: ninjaed by goldfish.

As nice as it would be to imagine thousands of lizard folk eggs. Powerful magical gaurdians, and troves of disaster prepped arcane lore... I'm used to not getting my hopes up.

You can get standard commune questions, though that means yes/no questions, not the more detailed accounts the avatar can give.

@DragonParadox, this would be the greatest loot ever, bar none. Serpentfolk eggs of every variety that Riz'Neth and Svitran can jointly work on hatching. :D

That's one function of runes, yes, but it's not the only way they can be used. The enchantment ultimately is guided by the intent of the enchanter (Lya in this case). Rather than enforce Harrenhal's legend which she has no reason to do, she could instead just use runes to enhance the sturdiness of the walls, or use them to guard against fel influences trying to seep into the castle.

I'm rather pleased to see Noqual here, I have the probably undeserved feeling that it wouldn't have been in the story if I hadn't mentioned it when people were asking after rare materials. Great update DP, this looks like a very interesting Thing To Figure Out.

so regular magical wards basically? Either way points proven.

Still. It's kind of nuts. Everything has been saturated by the magic in the area. Hell some of it hasn't been mutated but...

I really hope it's not all mutant lizard babies. I really do.

More to follow when I get home from work.

[X] Try to study it further
-[X] Viserys will use his personal Interplanar Whispering Brazier to contact Svitran in Sorcerer's Deep. Ask him to learn what he can of the Ooze Chamber from Yss, specifically anything related to the artifact occupying the central platform. What is its purpose? Is it still functioning? How can we safely interact with it, if it is possible at all.

It isn't like they are going to be useful for a long time anyway. I am all for eggs but if the system has collapsed and the eggs dead then I particularly don't mind

[X] Goldfish

IIRC Svitran is also free. If push comes to shove we can potentially poke at him for some answers.

... @Goldfish, I had an idea. We should make a Whispering Brazier just for Viserys. He can carry it in his cloak, and when he needs it it'll always be right there.

We've already got one he can have. It's been waiting to be assigned. Viserys is a good choice, IMO.
Excellent.

With this, @Goldfish, we can instruct Svitran to get next to a Whispering Brazier in Sorcerer's Deep and then answer questions. That was how Yss conversed with us in our last interrogation. We'll probably get more answers this way, certainly more than solely relying on Commune.

How many questions can we ask him? I can't even begin to recall.

It was initially 1/week and went up to three when you guys upgraded the belt, if you want more you would have to upgrade again.
I certainly wouldn't mind upgrading again. :D We shall keep this in mind, and get Yss a suitable meal.

Either way @Goldfish, three free questions. I seriously recommend getting in contact with Svitran via braziers, though. As a proper cleric he is Yss' conduit and can say a LOT more than a commune question can.

@Goldfish, and please don't get me wrong - but could we get the lsit of upgrades from crafting for this month?
It's too hard for me to get though the list by myself, havng no experience wit hthat side of DnD, but it is pleasant to see thew numbers grow :V
