Oh hmm I am honestly still tempted to do it. He would grant a boon for this correct?
If we go all out war with the Seven we can do it, but unnecessary destruction of the temples, of a Pantheon that a lot of our citizens worship is a bad idea, we don't need a war with the Seven, so unless they force us into one, we shouldn't provoke them more than necessary for our deal with the old gods.

Getting a boon from the Storm god is definitely not worth it.

Oh please. It is a personal temptation of mine. While I would much prefer to scour their temples from this land I know it is a vain effort. Honestly speaking though I can fully see negotiations with the Seven going to shit. So I can sit back and wait for that.

Edit: After which the smiting of temples would be more than possible. It would be encouraged.

  • [X] If Brienne is willing to swear her oath of fealty and obey the laws of our realm, we have no issue with her being the heir.
[X] I would not ask her to serve two lieges. If she can't swear to truly heed us to be her liege before other oaths to the Faith or Divine, she can't fulfill her responsibility to the Crown.
-[X] We have a magic that can unravel any magical bond, even that between a God and his Chosen. If Brienne wants to succeed you, we can offer her that option.
-[X] Alternatively we could try raising his dead children, though depending on their age at the time of death that is more or less likely to succeed.
--[X] Use Speak with Soul and do your best to convince Lord Tarth's son to accept a resurrection to aid his family.

Twenty-Seventh Day of the Third Month 290 AC

On awakening Waymar knew as surely as he knew his own name that the magic had followed him into the waking world and more besides. He knew of Father Storm who's daughter was the wind itself, he knew of Mother Earth to whom the First Men, his kin from out of deep time, gave sacrifices before they came to know the Secret Gods of the Deep Woods. These things he could not unknow and a growing part of him did not wish to unknow them.
@DragonParadox, what can Waymar tell us about the First Men and their gods that we might not know? How can we get Mother Earth as a nice farming deity for the Imperium?

If Waymar's ancestral memories surfaced thanks to his magic he should have enough intel to suit our purposes.

@DragonParadox Assuming Selwyn will call for Brienne to hear her answer there, could we have the next update dealing with this be from her perspective?

Being in her head when she enters the chapel to see the Dread Sorcerer having tea and biscuits with Dad would be highly entertaining :V

@Goldfish
Are you absolutly sure about that?
I thought we wanted to try something like a seperation of powers (below Viserys at last), so letting a priest (and she is one as long as she gets divine magic from a god), might be a bad idea in terms of political precedents.

Waymar does not know much about Mother Earth, she does not have much to do with the source of his powers and thus his dreams.everything he knows is on the write up on the front page

I'm hesitant to do that since the perspective will let you guys decide by information Viserys does not have IC. I like to keep interludes to those people he does know really well IC.

Did we? I don't remember, if so.

I thought we ruled that all magic users would be part of the Scholarium, regardless of the type of magic, but that they wouldn't necessarily be barred from holding inherited positions.

They are not barred from holding other titles, that is true.
Just to clarify:
§ 2 - The Nobility, who is defined as those holding either hereditary fiefs or a higher political office.
__§ 2.1 - This includes knights sworn to knightly orders recognized as such by the state or sworn to a lord or the crown.
__§ 2.2 - This includes further the next of kin of those holding hereditary fiefs, but not the next of kin of those holding non hereditary offices.

§ 3 - The Mages, who are defined as those who are skilled in the arts of magic and recognized as such by their peers.
__§ 3.1 - No distinction shall be drawn between the branches or traditions of magic as long as their practices remain within the bounds of the law.

§ 5 - The Clergy, who are defined as those in direct service of a god, gods, or their churches and representatives on our world.
__§ 5.1 - To be eligible for the Estate of Clergy, the religion in question must be recognized by the crown as such.
Brienne, should she inherit, will carry the responsibilities of three different legal states in our current system.

I don't think we are doing her, or her people, a favor with this.
If she does eventually take her father's place, I suggest a ruling that there has to be a capable regent/clerk present as her second, as the minimal requirement.

Edit: This is also part of the reason we made Aemon a minor lord and put a, by numbers, less skilled person above him, because he's a researcher first and can't and won't go all in on ruling.

Stab them with a thinaum dagger.
Eh, we can do that reliably only to an already incapacitated target - and them we can simply carry to whichever Fey that makes Unravellings.
No, we need something that would do in midst of combat, rocket tag as it is for us nowadays.

Ultimately, leaving aside the legalities, Brienne probably won't have the time to rule herself and I'm not sure how good she'd be at the administrative and financial aspects of the job anyway. Which is what regents, castellans and such are for but it is worth keeping in mind.

She could always find herself an Alinor to dump the lion's share of the work on, and I'm sure we could help with finding them so let us just ask her what she intends.

Just because she is the heir, and eventual Lady of Tarth, doesn't mean she has to handle the day to day running of the island.

She can hire people to do most of the administrative work while she handles adventuring.

Interlude DXIV: Curdled Blood and Hidden Bones
Curdled Blood and Hidden Bones

Ninth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

For once the morning light did not sting Morwyn's eyes, the heavy silk curtains drawn as much against the ever-present mosquitoes of Axe Isle as the sun. The sounds one could hear through the window were less welcome, the grunts and shouts of mortals going about their clumsy way, hewing and smashing, trading trinkets, or getting disgustingly drunk when someone was unwise enough to let them off from work before exhaustion claimed them.

"Hmm... what is it? Fancy another tumble?" A sleepy voice called from the other side of the bed. Ah.... Lynera, manifest proof that not all mortals were ugly as a jungle snapper's ass and thrice as clumsy, only most of them. Such a pity that beauty would wither in a handful of years. Still, he would have to remember to thank Saan for convincing him to sample her charms while he had the chance. Somewhat to his surprise the assassin was faintly regretful that the Lord of the Isles himself was also doomed to the same fate, death's shadow already bleaching his hair and wrinkling his skin like old leather. Perhaps he could make use of magic to extend his life to more a reasonable span.

Rising from the bed to wash and dress Morwyn waved his lover of the night off and headed off to find his brother, mentally steeling himself for the snide comments.

"How drunk did you have to get to fuck one of them?" Tuin asked, not even raising his eyes from his notes, alerted by the sound of his bother's steps. "Hopefully not so much that you risk breeding," he added with a mock shudder.

"Don't be ridiculous, that was the first thing I made sure of before taking her to bed," Morwyn snorted as he took a seat at the wide ebony table, careful of touching the corners. The pirate lord to which it had previously belonged to had a fondness for dart traps which had been reset as to keep spies and idiots away from the plaques they were studying. With malice and forethought he added: "Unless you are looking forward to a life of celibacy, you had best get used to the prospect. Even if there are more Drow hiding in the depths, the Dragon forbids slave taking. Or are you planning find more like those whose writings we have been studying?"

"Refrain from mentioning those degenerates in that context, I have only just eaten," the mage replied, though without any heat.

"So worse than one of the beast-folk?" Morwyn needled idly.

"Considerably so for how far they had fallen." Tuin's voice took on a faintly lecturing tone. "They were descended of Venthari flesh-smiths as we had suspected. Faced with the waning of magic they wove certain parasitic qualities into their bodies to drain the life force of the native beasts. Unfortunately for them that was not all they imbibed. Feral instincts ran rampant in their midst, during what the plaques call the 'Time of the the Bloody Claw'. What the Dragon destroyed was a splinter of a splinter, those desperate enough to drink the blood of mortal whelps to cut back on the madness that was infecting them."

"Why only the young?" Tuin asked idly. That had been a large part of why the blood drinkers had been killed to the last rather than attempting negotiations. The Dragon seemed to take particular offense in harm done to the very youngest of mortals.

"Because they were easier for their pets to deliver I suspect," The elder brother shrugged. "The matter was not considered important enough to mark down. There is a lesson in that I suppose, never assume other dominions or their lords will share your notions of what is and is not important. That is not what I wish to show you though." Pointing to one of texts about half-way up one of the smaller tablets he added, "Here is an account of 'the inthejeer,' fangless ones who dwell by the shore who would at times trade the bounty of the waters—pearls, slaves, and salvage from wrecks for exotic pelts and other reagents of the deep jungles."

"Somehow I doubt these 'fangless ones' would have much love of us or out current employer," Morwyn noted. Truth be told even in Venthar taking a long-term contract from a non-Drow, even one so mighty as a dragon, would be looked upon in askance.

"That suspicion has already been confirmed as it happened, another of the accounts is an enchanter's personal notes where it is said these shore-dwellers at times enslaved fish-men to their wiles. Saan remembered that he captured the Isle of Toads from one who commanded the spawn of the Deep, though she herself was not of them."

"So we have found an accounting of an enemy that was already known, an interesting curiosity but hardly a great discovery to present to the Dragon for all our work," the younger of the two noted, knowing that his bother would have kept any truly interesting discoveries for last out of a sense of showmanship.

"So it is, brother mine, if it were not for this..." With a flourish Tuin pressed a piece of parchment forward.

"... raiders from below defiling the Grey Stone weapons of the Ancestors with their foul touch... Fought to the last to deny us their sweet blood, but their bones were carved into keystones for the ritual circles..." So there had been contact with the Deep Cities over the millennia, Morwyn thought, a combination of exhilaration and fear running through him. "How long ago?"

"Four-hundred-and-seven years ago, by my observations of the sky," the mage replied, taking a sip of the wine that had lain forgotten at his elbow. "The same year the empire of the dragon-blooded fell. I suspect those skulls have an interesting tale to tell once they are recovered."

Blood Maiden Plaques Complete (21/6)

  • Confirmed Identity of Isle of Toads Hag
  • Discovered the location of more Degenerate Drow
  • Discovered the presence of bones belonging to an old deep-dwelling Drow expedition
  • Unlocked Research into Drow Flesh Crafting

OOC: Well here we are, you guys rolled well enough on the action to get info on the skulls which would have otherwise slipped by the bothers. Also a closer look into Morwyn, the less philosophical of the brothers. Instead of having an existential crises about where he is, he took up Saan on the offer to visit him and things developed from there.

Point.
Then all that's left is the question whom she will follow if Viserys and the Warrior lead in different directions.
I consider that rather important.
