Part MMDCCCXXI: Of Wise and Learned Company
Of Wise and Learned Company

Thirteenth Day of the Ninth Month 293 AC

The evening passes quickly as you move among the godsworn, you find here men and women false and sincere, the pious alongside the ambitious and the hesitant besides the resolute. The manners of the nobility are much in evidence, if not necessarily highborn heritage, making your current guise all the more incongruous, a figure of interest to most.

So do you walk among them, a liar, bearing true words, bedecked in treasures for a king's ransom yet shrouded in the seeming of humility. Of peace you speak, of understanding and kindness to those who seem strange, in form and in purpose, in creed or manner. Alas that Dywen's words do not catch root in near as many hearts as you had hoped for those already inclined to charity towards tolerating magic are most closely associated with Most Devout Kyle and those yet fearful of divine retribution have heard many of the same arguments before.

Still your visit is not without purpose, you find a pair of Elders willing to recognize you before the Conclave easily, one a septa from Goldengrove who had benefited from the good works of the local hedge witch and the other a septon from Two Towers who remembers well the passage of the Green Knight and his fey companion through his lands to set right a curse that twisted men into vicious cannibalistic 'grumpkins'. You had not expected to hear that old word spoken with such loathing, such pain. It bears remembering that most septons, even among Kyle's gathering, have seen very little of magic and thus must judge on hearsay and rumor even at the best of times.

At worst... well you can well imagine what these halls would look like were you among the less accepting parts of the gathered septons, the Seven-Pointed Star has more than enough examples of the evils of sorcery. Your ancestors put many of them there ere the Andals were driven from their first home by the shadow of dragons.

Perhaps the most interesting rumor you hear at the meeting however is not regarding any of the other factions, but one who is expected to speak on Kyle's behalf, Danelle, Chosen of the Maiden. She has apparently arrived in Oldtown but regretfully refused Septon Kyle's invitation to this gathering.

"You would like her I think, brother," your host explains, seemingly genuinely regretful at the lost opportunity, though whether because he truly values Danelle's company or simply the political advantage it would have given him is more than you can say. "She said she did not wish to give Brother Lucan an excuse to call her 'bought and paid for with Fey gold'. I think the company of one as sincere as yourself would have done much to ease her mind."

"There is time enough to meet between heaven and earth," you answer with a serene smile that speaks nothing of your true feelings. Given that you had not warded yourself against true sight you are very glad indeed not to have your 'sincerity' tested.

It is thankfully no great secret where you might find her. The new Lord of Greyshield has publicly bought a house in the city on Lampmaker's Lane. An unusual place for a lord's property to be sure, perhaps he did not fancy over-mighty neighbors.

Fourteenth Day of the Ninth Month 293 AC

The morning brings odd news, though not unwelcome ones, Lya has been helping Samwell in his studies when she is not in her laboratory working to empower Oathkeeper. After looking through the boy's books and finding them written in a skillful hand, if not containing any particular secrets, she had grown curious about the missing Archmaester and decided to make use of a Wayfinder to find the man. Yet the golden dust turned and turned again marking no direction, which only piqued Lya's interest further, for either he must be in some other world or warded against simple divination. Questioning Yss through Vee's belt however had found that Archmaester Marwyn is somewhere in Oldtown itself.

"It would be rather more of a coincidence than I would be willing to trust that he is simply here for some business with the Citadel, so close to the beginning of the Conclave," your mother muses as she drinks her morning tea.

"Particularly given the seeming disdain of his peers," you agree. Perhaps you could have some use for him in your plans after all, particularly if the tale of him stealing something from Lucan is true. The enemy of your enemy need not be a friend, but it is a better place to start than most you have begun with.

"If that animosity is even real," Dany interjects cautiously. "Who better to head a conspiracy to hoard magic than the Archmaester of the Valyrian steel mask?"

"I say we keep from pulling another viper's tail, Your Grace," Ser Richard speaks up in agreement. "There's enough to worry about without that. We still have not figured out what Brother Lucan wants with Ser Garth Hightower or what he may be plotting against his brother."

What do you do today?

[] Approach Danelle
-[] Write in

[] Try to figure out what Marwyn is doing in the City

OOC: Really short. This should have probably been part of the last update, at least in part, but I was just tired from trying to make the telepathic conversation interesting.

So I've been absent from the discussion lately, and thus I'm not sure if this has already been propossed, but here it is nonetheless.

The High Septon is a problem because he's capable, genuinely pious, set against us, and solidly in bed with the Lannisters. He needs to go, and ideally in a way that doesn't implicate us. We also need to burn, or at least seriously tarnish the Faith - Lannister alliance. Bloodraven is having trouble reigning in an increasingly hysterical Cersei. Cersei murdered several High Septons in her rule for quite honestly dumb reasons.

I can't be the only one seeing a possible solution here, right?

Step 1 : Cersei murders Bloodraven
Step 2 : The replacement is a Bloodraven-puppet
Step 3 : The Seven deal with it, publicly killing their own High Septon in the process (or at least splintering the Faith further by using some of their servants to act against the puppet).

I don't really see how speaking with Danelle would be helpful right now. As Dywen, we would be preaching to the choir, so to speak, and as Viserys we would have to limit ourselves to interesting but not immediately useful topics so as not to implicate ourselves in Oldtown shenanigans. Although I'm interested in the warding she helped place around the base of the Hightower, it's something that can wait until after the Conclave to investigate.

Gotta leave for work now. I'll try to fill in the rest of the plan when I get to work.

[X] Try to figure out the plot against Baelor Hightower, if indeed it goes further than trying to influence his brother
-[X] Seek out the Septon who initially reported Baelor's "inpious" or suspicious activity. Learn what he actually saw or heard, what he believes of Baelor's actions, who he reported to, and what he knows of the outcome of his report. Use magic as necessary to accomplish this.
--[X] If possible, follow the information up the chain in order to learn what kind of network Lucan has in Oldtown, and who ultimately reported that information to Lucan.
---[X] Keep Baelor informed of what we learn.

Dannelle is trying to establish contact with the Old Gods, right? Why not approach her as Dywen and 'reveal' his true motivations?

Because we don't know this IC.
(That's never stopped us before :V)

That was a joke please don't kill me.

*Ahem*

She held off going to the conclave because she thought she would get in a fight with Lucan?

Isn't that a reason too try and send her? And to tell her about the feys lovely~ little marriage plan?

I mean, I could see us going to Danelle in the guise of Dywen to scope her out, using Kyle's mention of how we'd get along as a reason. It's not a bad idea, certainly, and it gets us a good read like @LonelyWolf999 implies. If we have time before the Conclave after looking into the plot a bit more, I'd definitely be down for it.

Alright, lets clean up Baelor a bit more and then creep on people.

So as far as we know Lucan is attempting to turn his brother against him by using angelic protectors and miracles as proof of divine writ?

Well...

If only we could steer him to ask some of the more pertinent questions...

Perhaps in a dream @Goldfish? Bring his good brother along too.

Plan updated.

Do you think arranging a dream meeting between Baelor and his brother is worth the effort?

I... Think Lucan needs Baelors brother for the legitamacy, but I am not certain.

The 7 are also somewhat unlikely to have been able to ward his dreams.

[X] Goldfish

I mean at this point we can stick Bloodraven on any plot. King's Landing has an inquisition base and Bloodraven. Use those two together in tandem and I give it two months max before the faith and the Lannisters tear each other apart.

That might be the next step, but I'm more interested in ferreting out Lucan's network in Oldtown right now. If we can suborn it in some manner, we can possibly trick Lucan into doing something stupid.

We won't have much time to exploit that advantage, though, so we need to figure it out ASAP.

So I was thinking of an interlude and did some rolls...

@LonelyWolf999 how would you say the Lads would react to Amrelath Argo, Korton and Lothos showing up in their camp and asking to be pointed at the nearest barrow?

Would they try to get them away as fast as posibile or try to organize some kind of greeting, maybe try to discretly use them in their own operations?

What about Vaela and Mors? Isn't Amrelath in the middle of power leveling them?

Or is this solely to increase his hoard?

Wait aren't the Barrows in the North? Unless the Lads are in the North all of a sudden then I don't see how they would interact. Or are we talking about different barrows
