Landed nobles generally do not marry into each other's lines directly though. In the rare instances when a woman rules in her own right she tends to marry someone low in the line of succession and have him take her name. Also Wills do not actually mean much by Westerosi precedent. Look at what happened to Viserys the First.
Yeah but that's for kings, neither Theon nor Valaena is a king, which mean there's a higher authority namely ours, to enforce their Wills.

So all in all, I just don't see allowing 2 ruling people to marry, and just pass their fiefs down to their first 2 children, as something that will bite us that much in the ass, the rare asshole that will try to use it for a powergrab, is the kind of asshole we would want to deal with anyway.

Speaking of Dragon Horns, we have a broken one.

Want to wield it against Tiamat's Wyrmlings?
I would have preferred to use the Dragon Orb there, actually.

But apparently those dozens of wyrms she has are too far removed from being a True Dragon for it to have an effect, according to DP.

So it likely is pointless to take, with Nightmare Dragon likely not falling under a it's sway either, and there being but one TD left with Golden Cloaks, and only a wyrmling at that.

:/

I would have loved to see Viserys going against every single instinct of his as a Red there, using the Orb against Tiamat and her minions.
Seeing him overcoming his instincts never gets old to me.

(And no, other dragons' opinion about Viserys using it can't be given less fucks about in this situation. If our vassals can't take that much, we are doing something really wrong making them vassals in the first place)

"Fair point," you nod. "We will do with those who follow the Seven what we have already begun to do with those who follow the Red God. Religion will always endure, gods grant power that we cannot simply deny. But with the spread of knowledge of what gods truly are, and how they do not hold dominion over the souls of mortals, how they're seen will change. And as their congregation changes, so will they. It'll take time, but we have that."
But gods do hold dominion over mortal souls, it's just not an absolute dominion, more a dominion like how we rule our land, meaning that you can choose to follow a gods law, or you can choose to leave that god for another god, just like you can choose to live in our land and follow our law, or you can choose to hop on a ship to somewhere not ruled by us.

But once you die, whatever god you were sworn to do get to judge your soul, so I wouldn't say gods don't hold dominion over the souls of mortals, just that you can choose which god to swear yourself to, and it's then that god who will judge you.

The difference to your analogy is that you can choose no god at all and it works.

Your soul is still drawn to an alignment-appropriate afterlife.

You don't really have the option to follow no law at all without repercussions in the Material world.

Denarian's faces when Sanya pulls out his blessed Holy Weapon AK-47.

Full auto high capacity drum magazines of righteousness. Hnnngh.

"Did a holy soldier for the White God scream at those demons to 'Git gud'?"

"Da"

Behold. I lied. Fear me.

More than a little delirious, please forgive any errors. Sleep now.

I know the feeling.

Great work by the way. I speed-read right though both chapters and everything fit perfectly, the characters, the tone, the subtle, but overwhelming power the White God as it is seen in the series. The only thing I personally might have liked to see is Charity, because her conflict with regards to Viserys is I suspect quite fascinating, on the one hand he gave her back her daughter... but he may be taking away her husband.

You do however have the option, to not settle down in any place, and so while you have to follow the law, you aren't sworn to any king or lord, and don't have to obey any orders from them(though some of them might try to force you, but gods have also been known, to try to force people to worship them) which is what I would think, is roughly the mortal world equivalent of following no god, after all just because you follow no god, you still have to try to be good if you want to get into heaven, just like if you want to avoid punishment in the mortal world, even if you are sworn to no king lord or country, traveling as you want to, you still have to follow the law if you don't want punishment.

And if you want to avoid even following the law, there are lawless places like the lands beyond the wall, where there's no real law, only consequences of people retaliating for what you did.

I...wanted to include Charity, but I just couldn't find a way to make it fit here. If nothing else, it would have required a whole other chapter to cover and I don't want all of this setup to start dragging on the way to the payoff.

I expect it's something that will end up referred to in passing in one of the final assembly chapters. Charity is certainly not pleased in the slightest, but she can also understand the stakes here. With so much on the line she'll hate that her husband has to go, but will also know that he has to. It's what makes him the man she loves.

On a totally different note, Chapter 53 is missing its threadmark.

  1. I guessed as much, she has and ironclad sense of right and wrong
  2. Fixed
BTW guys would you mind an interlude heavy day today? There's still a lot to plot out for the conclave.

It comes out to CL 13. Basically it's ascalling stat and skill buff based on the value of the treasures he is wearing (this value need not be monetary but can be spiritual or sentimental). The important part is that it needs to be tainted by greed somehow

I love interlude heavy days.

Can we have another Teana interlude? Or City of Brass infiltration?

Or random 'mystery knight' returning home after the tournament?

I'll stop here.

Small Council reacts to return of the 'mystery knights' and the launching of what might well be the largest treasure fleet in the history of Planetos by a hostile foreign power that they can't do anything to.

You know you want it.

Man, if they were going to go straight-up Fanfic with it, they could at least have let DP write the show.

That would be fucking awesome.

This is just pure cool-factor at this point.

Geez.

Yeah, but if they let DP write it then it would actually have a functional plot/story progression worth a damn to go along with the glorious bullshit.

And we can't be having that in modern television. People might realise what they're missing :V

I've yet to hear anything over the years that would make me want to watch GoT.

After ASWAH, especially, it just doesn't seem interesting.
