Would Balon Swann be actually comfortable being on the same team as Darkstar? Stomlander and Dornish, and all that?

Otherwise Mors could fill his spot.

Though it would be also rather neat to see that particular axe being buried unceremoniously when they see what exactly the other teams are, realizing that they are not so different.

I going to say that when faced with a dragon, some fish people and talking snakes the long and bloody history of the Marches will be if not forgotten than at least set aside for the moment.

Mind, I'm hoping for the knights to go far. It would just be too epic a story if they make it at least to the semi-finals.

Can someone tell me relationship status of viserys in this fic and will there be incest once Dany grow up? Not sure I want to read that lol

The match I want the most is Blue vs. Snake.

What kind of tourney would this be without a giant snake and a giant dragon turtle trying to kill each other in one of the fights?

A shitty one.

Team contest: Well, Amrelath eating the guys that totally showed up the competition so far will also make a fine point about 'facing the flying snakes on the field of battle' - if that still needs a reminder.

Part MMDCCXII: A Trail of Coins, a Demon's Dilemma
A Trail of Coins, a Demon's Dilemma

Twenty-Eighth Day of the Eighth Month 293 AC

It is a fact generally acknowledged that having one's lord, present or soon-to-be, show up to one's door bright and early, suggesting that one hand him money does not a good morning make. Today proves that there are exceptions to every rule. Uthero and the Sealord hand out by far the lion's share of support for the venture to Yi Ti, almost half-a-million marks between them while the Glassmaker's Guild cannot gather its ruling body swiftly enough to take your offer... though Lady Dorera Phassen is more than content to make up the difference with a generous portion of her own fortune, offered mostly in fine glasswork and other trade goods that would otherwise have traveled by other less profitable paths.

The Brunes have far less gold to spend, but to your satisfaction they are no less free with their purse strings when you explain what you will be trading in and how the expedition will be guarded. The only concern old Lord Eustace raised was having less gold with which to raise and keep a strong levy, but you assure him the fleet will sail back in good time to strengthen his hand when war comes at last. After pondering the matter a while longer the canny old lord decides to stake twelve-thousand gold dragons on the voyage alongside some trade goods he is able to gather on short notice—seasoned timber, salt, and pearls traded with the Tritons. In all it is a veritable fortune by the standards of the Pointsmen. A good part of it may well be a show of support, regardless of how unusual your interests, but whatever the case it will make House Brune a tidy profit in the end.

In Runestone the prospect of trade with Yi Ti is greeted a good bit more reticently. One would think storms prowl the harbor mouths like hungry wolves and pirates are as common as fleas on a stray dog from the way Bronze Yohn describes matters. In response you remind him that your ships can scry storms ahead of time and the pirates in the Stepstones are gone, most of them into your service though that you do not say aloud.

Finally he agrees, staking more gold than Lord Brune though far less in proportion to his House's wealth. Then again you can hardly blame him for not being as enthusiastic as the Pointsmen.

Unsurprisingly you find no hesitation to risk the winds of trade and fortune at High Tide whose strength and wealth was built on the voyages of Corlys Velaryon. Rather you find a different sort of hesitation. "Valaena wrote to tell me she is going on the voyage," Lord Monford says gingerly. "Isn't she a bit young to be heading out so far and for so long?"

Your first inclination is to point out that she did not get any younger since fighting a cavalry battle, facing fiends, sorcerers, and the restless dead, not mention having just triumphed in the melee less than a week ago. That would hardly help, however, so you point out that throughout the journey you will be quite literally a thought away.

At that the Lord of Driftmark relents, a smile even crossing his face: "Well then, if she is going to go as far as Corlys then I aught to give her a chance to match him in another way, too. Our coffers are not as tight as they used to be, thanks in no small part to you, Your Grace."

You accept the compliment in the spirit it was made before returning to Sorcerer's Deep late morning to seek out Lord Darry. The Riverlander lord is obviously surprised, but the sight of the ships in the harbor and the emerald mantas floating gently overhead makes for a better argument than mere words. Though House Darry is able to gather the least coin of all those you had asked, you appreciate their contribution no less.

As you settle to watch the last of the joust, a familiar figure approaches you, familiar at least insofar as the way she walks and her taste in silks and jewels for her face is hidden under a glamour. "Greetings, Azema. I trust your month away was enough to wash away the frustrations of your previous assignment."

"It was. I even found an excellent sculptor rotting away in some pissant little three-ox-town because his patron had been killed in the conquest, and he is about as good with money as the horse he rode in on is," she explains. "Now I'm back and... well, what a time to be back. It would be rather exciting to test my claws on all these interesting people... in a fun way of course." The words are genuinely playful, as though getting bruised, sliced, and burned into unconsciousness before the cheering crowds were simple uncomplicated fun.

For her perhaps it is. It is her next question, though, that draws most of your attention: "So do I get one of those steel bird masks or do you want to keep me all to yourself?"

Azema asking to join the Inquisition, that you had not expected, though perhaps you should have. In a sense everything she does fits under an Inquisitor's task, though on the darker end of the spectrum. There might be something to say for keeping her a deniable asset beyond even the Inquisition, but on the other hand she is not only an asset but a person, one who has passed a dark and winding path to reach the point of trusting others enough to ask for such responsibility.

What do you answer Azema?

OOC: Just having a question about participating in the fight would have lacked in substance somewhat, so I packaged it with a question Azema has been considering for a while. She has gotten to the point where she wants to get close to people as herself, and the Inquisition looks to her like a group of people who would be most accepting.
