Between Lya's mind for research and our muscle for regular expeditions into those catacombs made by the runecrafters, we could recover a bunch of knowledge. Enough to be worth substantially delaying the Thenns' evacuation.

Technically when we revive Dawn Tree we should be able to make portal to Thenn heart tree so leave/trade any time.

Might be best to help them fort up more than convince them to leave.

Ultimately, we can't hold Thennhold against the White Walkers. It's not even really suitable as a forward base as the moment Winter comes, it will be surrounded and cut off from all supply lines.

I don't think any amount of forting up is going to change the fact that the Others are going to sweep through them. Beyond the wall is a death trap and the more that die the more bodies they get

What's this? A Horde Thief update that's before midnight? Say it ain't so!

I think there will be one more chapter between this and the Epic Dragon Emperor Socials hitting the entire White Council square in the face. @Azel this is the speech I was going to ask for your help with, I hope you're still happy to do so. I can do speeches for Viserys, I think Hearthfire and some others speak for themselves, but this is more your type of speech than mine, I feel.

You'll be waiting on the next PW section for the update to this, but I know (I think) where that's going even if the where is going to be a bit atypical for me. Should be within the week, regardless – I'm pretty good about keeping to that. Also wtf is it with these chapters refusing to stay below 2k words. I actively started on this today.
Yeah, sure. Just shoot me a PM with the general direction you want. Keep in mind that I'm far more political then compassionate though, something that gravely differs in our respective tones in certain situations.

Oh right speaking of the mini-mages we have our Valyrian mage who went to Valyrian magic school correct? Does she have any ideas on how to make our current system more efficient? How did the Valyrians teach their mages? Does she know these things? @DragonParadox

Just noticed this, great work as always leaving one curious as to what will come next though this one in particular is a momentous decision point. It does bring up a question I've been pondering idly for a while now: in your opinion and assuming Viserys was not in a hurry to get home do you think Viserys could outright subvert the While Council and bend it to his will. Personally I think he could do it given a couple of centuries.

One thing, we should tell Umber to keep quiet about the tree striding, make it clear that south of the wall, we can teleport just fine. If people in westeros think we can be stopped from moving quickly, then they may try to destroy weirwoods to weaken us.

I could see the seven, Mammon's lot, or a sneakey Others servant, or a particularly odd mindflayer trying to make this happen

Though hopefully, if that were to happen, the lord's I'm talking about will be advised "nope, there's this thing called teleport" :)

He is planning to send most of his people south, particularly the children while a small core of veteran warriors remains behind to try and preserve something of the Vale or at least die protecting all they have worked for.
Noble, but in the end not as productive as it could be.

We can offer better.

On another note @DragonParadox does Magnar take lost ears with pride or would he be willing to Regen them? Surely the better hearing would be good.

He takes it with pride. If it had been something like a finger he would have had it regrown but he can still hear fine even without his outer ear.
Would he be amenable to a compromise solution? We let him keep his lack of outer ears, but instead implant him with some magitek solution that let's him hear a cricket farting half a click away?

Why do you think I'm asking you? This is politics, not compassion. Thanks, though. I'll PM you when we're there.

Assuming no other Powers involved themselves, yes. Which I see as highly unlikely.

And yeah, this is a big decision point. It's interesting, actually, because Arc 2 has something of a double-climax in terms of political and personal consequences for the world around Viserys.

Yeah these guys just being stupid. There's no point dying if he's literally going to be helping the enemy by doing so. Heroically dying isn't good if your death doesn't weaken the enemy but literally makes them stronger.
