@TalonofAnathrax @TotallyNotEvil @Everyone I got bored, so decided to come up with an alternate Scholarium Sorcerer build (yes, I'm a nerd). This one, rather than focusing on pure combat power through the maximum possible Fire enhancement, is a dedicated Enchanter (as in Enchantment spells, not enchanting gear). There are a couple alternative class features @DragonParadox would have to approve, but I think it's a pretty neat departure from our Fire-themed Sorcerers.

On top of being able to mind whammy troublemakers pretty damned well for their level, which would make them ideal for non-lethal roles such as Inquisition agent or Lawman, they would also make excellent diplomats, especially if they reach 6th level when they gain access to Tongues and Air of Nobility (and Suggestion).

Scholarium Sorcerer:
1st Level:
Advancement:
  • 2nd Level:
    • Learn the Light cantrip.
Scholarium Sorcerer: A Sorcerer may take substitution levels in Scholarum Sorcerer whenever they have been spending a significant amount of time studying in the Scholarum and are getting a Sorcerer level from levels one through six. It functions as a normal Sorcerer, but with the following adjustments.

Levels 1 thru 6: Skill Ranks (4 + Int) per level.

Level 1:
  • Rather than acquiring a Familiar, the Scholarium Sorcerer instead gains the Potent Enchantment feat.
  • The Scholarium Sorcerer loses the ability to cast spells from the Necromancy and Transmutation schools of magic, but gains access to the Enchantment Domain. They automatically learn each spell upon reaching the necessary level to cast it.
  • Cooperative Study (Ex): A Scholarum Sorcerer with this ability has learned that the sharing of knowledge and research with his fellow sorcerers is crucial to the mastery of wild magic. The ability increases the bonus provided by any Aid Another actions made to help with the Knowledge (Arcana), Spellcraft, or Use Magic Device skills. The total bonus is equal to his number of Scholarum Sorcerer substitution levels +2. Up to three additional sorcerers with this ability may aid a single character, each making their own Aid Another check, but the total bonus gained by the recipient may not exceed +10. If all spellcasters involved have this ability, choose one to be the recipient of the Cooperative Study.
Level 2:
  • Arcane Thesis (Enchantment): The Scholarium Sorcerer benefits from a +2 Competence bonus on saves against Enchantment spells, abilities, and effects, and a +1 bonus to the saving throw DCs of their Compulsion spells. At 6th level, the bonus against Enchantment effects doubles and the +1 DC bonus applies to all Enchantment spells cast by the Scholarium Sorcerer.
Level 3:
Level 6:
  • Piercing Enchantment: The Scholarium Sorcerer selects one Enchantment spell they know. The saving throw DC and caster level of this spell is increased by +2. The affected spell can be altered, but doing so requires the Scholarium Sorcerer to meditate uninterrupted for three hours per level of the new Enchantment spell.
  • After level 6, the Scholarum Sorcerer may continue gaining levels in Sorcerer as normal.

Impressive, especially given there's only so many ways you can take a Sorcerer up to 6th level. Whole lotta schools kind of closed off to mono-focused building up until at least 4th or even 5th spell level before it would be worth it.

Blasting and Enchanting are really the two roles I can think of that you can get a lot of mileage out of.

Technically a crafter with DP's house rules can get the most mileage out of anybody, but only through the use of the world's strongest superpower: Unlimited Money.

@LonelyWolf999

Trade you an omake? I'm jonesing for more adventures of Benjicot Brown and Tom of the Sevenstrings, man! With his Not Quite Magic Fingers!

Hell I'll do any series you want! I've got half a dozen!

Err, except Misfits, since I've got serious writer's block...

...wait, that's super hypocritical.

FINE! I'll even update that if you want! Help a brother out!

Right now I'm wrapping up Part 5 which is from Monford Velaryon's perspective, but after that shit will start going down. I think Part 6 will be from Kennick's POV, but it'll include the entirety of the cast.

I'd like it if you continued the Ser Richard goes to RWBY series, that had the potential to be extremely entertaining and awesome.

...... I had a really funny idea for a crossover.

Dany or Viserys in How to Train Your Dragon.... Tell me that wouldn't be funny.

EDIT: Heck, why not just have Sorcerer's Deep appear as an island there.

Yesss... back by popular request. I'll have to decide how much skipping around I wanna do there. Richard has a limited skill set... but he's like a swiss army knife of death. Gribblies? Death. Giant monsters? Death. Evil Spellcasters? Death.

There's really nothing he can't kill.

Except Salem.

Drop him in Bloodborne or Darksouls. That might be interesting.

...

Given the whole "riding feral dragons thing" that would be more along the lines of bizzarely normal really.

If I would put anyone in a "How To Train Your Dragon" crossover, it would be Vee.

Also clearly the most terrifying candidate once she learns about those "practice fights" of theirs...

Nah, I want them stuck in their dragon forms for it with them maybe able to shift for about a minute at most.

Seeing the group try and domesticate them would be hilarious. Bonus points if the two of them just go with it.

Oh, that WOULD be interesting but I'd prefer to drop someone dragon related into the world with feral, non magical dragons.

I wonder if he could get through with just his gear...

Don't forget his frankly insane skill.

I was personally interested in how he would handle Remnant in general, and how it would handle him. There would be adapting to the high tech setting, although the difference from a high-Fantasy one isn't that wide, while everyone else realizes that he's a no-shit actual goddamn medieval knight. I was also looking forward to seeing him thrust out of his comfort zone in a social way, with him having to get into the role as a shot-caller and one of the most magically fluent people around. There'd be all sorts of delightful character interaction potential - I'm eagerly awaiting his inevitable meeting with Ozpin.

And of course, RWBY is amazing for epic fight scenes.

My longterm intentions was not to Worf any of the human/faunus characters. Unlike canon RWBY, anyway. Where power levels seemingly rise and fall to suit the "narrative" for the last few volumes.

I'm pretty sure Richard could batter down a stone wall while amped up with strength enhancement.

...of course shattering concrete with an errant blow is a common thing in RWBY.

Maybe not this specific senario, but I have been considering writing a crossover with that overall idea in mind. Having Viserys/Daenerys/Rhaella dropped into a setting where for whatever reason they're forced to largely stay in dragon form and magic is somehow limited if not outright unavailable. How To Train Your Dragon would absolutely be funny, and I had also considered something like Dragon Age.

Going by lore, isn't the upper threshold on power levels pretty high though in both settings?

Like upper Mythic Tier at least? If not Middle-High Epic?
Mmmmm kind of? Strongest thing in dark souls would probably be...

Manus, primogenitor of the human race and creator of the Abyss.

Though Richards armor would likely make him immune to dark sorcery. Given how even weak blessing seriously mess with it.

Let's see... Manus could give him trouble, Seaths mandatory death trap could give him trouble (oh wait he can teleport), bed of Chaos? Nito? Depending on wether or not nito is actually any good with that sword of his.

Honestly the biggest obstacle for him would probably be Ornstein and Smough. Cause they're just tough, they hit hard, and they don't quit.

Dragon Age has some serious problems, what with everyone wanting to kill Dragons for various reasons. Those reasons varying, obviously. Not being able to change form would be... quite bothersome. Quite bothersome. Have to shatter a couple of small armies and maybe even kill some important looking characters bothersome before people get the picture.

How To Train Your Dragon has the absolute potential to be a blast and a WAFF filled adventure with comparatively very low stakes, though.

Another good'un would be tossing either one into another common Fantasy setting which has a lot of moving parts in it. You know, where the greatest danger is losing track of what's going on, not being targeted constantly or running up against a authorial fiat-backed brick wall.

Yeah, no. Dragon age would be "HEY EVERYONE I FOUND A DRAGON!! LET'S GO KILL IT!!"

Yeah, pretty much.

It would wouldn't it? I would probably grant them access to cantrips at least and maybe the ability to copy noises rather than speak. Leave it to them to piece together an explanation.

Though having Viserys become known as the most powerful dragon species due to his magic would be hilarious.

That's kind of why I was looking for setting like the ones listed, as in a lot of cases being stuck in dragon form would just cause way too much of a hassle. You'd need a setting where dragons aren't completely OOC entities so the main character(s) would be able to slide into the plot without everyone losing their shit. I could see that actually being really entertaining, I'd just need to find the right setting, and most likely not have the plot be the most high stakes thing ever.

I was thinking Elder Scrolls. Where the bigger (more immediate) danger is indeed very quickly falling behind on things happening everywhere.

Not to say there aren't some pants shitting threats in there, it's just that there's really no need to contend with any of them unless they're directly world-ending ones, like Mehrunes or Alduin.

A Forgotten Realms crossover would be highly amusing. Has the same problem of numerous pants shitting threats, maybe even more than what we're dealing with, but also more people to ally with who seem to know what they're doing (and... the opposite, really). At the very least, insanity with the Harpells, or getting to meet Big E, or tweaking Tiamat or Lolth's nose A SECOND TIME out of nowhere would prove to be good omake fodder.

Viserys in Ellesmera would be... hilarious. Hilariously frustrating.

Or perhaps Ooo, where insanity is the plot reigns free.

Adventures in Tyria would be... tense. But interesting. Lots of research to be had.

All of these settings actually have... existential threats, actually.

Huh.

Edit:

This "low-stakes setting" search might take a while.
