To the notion of giving land away... Was under the impression that the Legion was to be given lands for their service? I would rather prioritize them than give it to some upstart who won a tournament. Also when do legionaries retire? Is it a 4 year service?
We already own huge tracts of sparsely populated land and are actively colonizing more. We won't run out of space for the Legion.

@Azel Rather than a magic free-for-all, we could have several days of preliminaries, each televised by MirrorVision, with only the final match between the two finalists taking place on the day of the tourney.

I get that but... how do I explain it....it doesn't sit right with me that despite a legionaries being loyal to us all it takes for someone to own land is a tournament...it just doesn't feel right. Do you get where I am coming from? I know its purely emotional but still ...

@Duesal, I would leave the armor for jousting 2nd prize. The joust has traditionally the best rewards.
Alright.

Okay, so assuming everyone who's given the option is going to ask for the very most:
---[] Joust:
----[] 1st Prize: 5,000 Imperial Marks, Valyrian Steel weapon of choice, Valyrian Steel armor of choice, Valyrian Steel horse barding of choice, +1 Shield of choice, Amulet of Tears, Gloves of Heroes Strength (+2 Strength), Healing Belt (+2 Constitution), Ring of Protection from Evil. Include an option to receive a sizeable land grant in the former Disputed Lands if the winner is willing to swear themselves to us to serve as a loyal vassal.

Joust 1st Prize: Reinforced Segmented Valyrian Steel Fullplate -- 55 lbs, Valyrian Steel Greatsword -- 8 lbs, Valyrian Steel Horse Barding -- ??? lbs
Joust 2nd Prize: Reinforced Segmented Valyrian Steel Fullplate -- 55 lbs, Valyrian Steel Greatsword -- 8 lbs
Joust 3rd Prize: Valyrian Steel Greatsword -- 8 lbs
Melee 1st Prize: Reinforced Segmented Valyrian Steel Fullplate -- 55 lbs, Valyrian Steel Greatsword -- 8 lbs
Melee 2nd Prize: Valyrian Steel Greatsword -- 8 lbs
Melee 3rd Prize: Valyrian Steel Greatsword -- 8 lbs

Total: 213 lbs of Valyrian Steel, not including the Horse Barding.

That's... Huh. That's actually not too bad. @Goldfish @Azel if you want we can probably manage an armor for second place of the Melee and Joust.

I know, but small steps. Let the Westerosi have their horseback dick-waving contest for now.

I would still add the armor to the runner-up.
Now is as good a time as any to let them know that priorities have shifted somewhat.

As I mentioned earlier with the mage duels, in addition to that, we should also have the melee event done in the same manner. With the MirrorVision system in place, there could be several days with melee matches broadcast, with each fight being between two well-rested and undamaged fighters. That should attract a lot of repeat viewers and would be more exciting as well. We can just do away with the free-for-all completely.

Here's what I have for prizes right now. Prize money has been equalized across each event.

I took off the VS armor from everyone but the 1st place winners. No more VS horse barding, either. It's been replaced with +1 armor instead.

I know, it was just a point of reference for me.

In any case, we do have enough Valyrian Steel to hand out for propaganda here. It shouldn't hurt at all if we include second place of both the joust and the melee.

[X] Festival Planning
--[X] Nitty Gritty Details:
---[X] 150 Tonnes of steel will be used to produce extremely complex and highly detailed/faceted colored figurines as described here and here.
---[X] To-Be-Determined amount of Imperial Marks used as a discretionary budget by the organizers to fund the following:
---[X] Alms for the poor. The Westerosi ideal.
---[X] Feasts and balls for the nobility. No gauche or tasteless theming. Essosi are very particular about appearances, so try to keep that in mind, but if there's any central theme, it will be decidedly "Imperial". Rhaella's book will be these people's gospel.
---[X] Honoring the Legion. Make sure their field rations are upgraded to full-on catering following grand speeches or momentous announcements this month.

--[X] The Mirror Vision network will be used for a variety of purposes this month, including:
---[X] In between broadcasts intermittently, Glyra will tell riddles which, when solved by children all across the Imperium, correct answers can be redeemed for a Companion figurine at designated locations. Answer every riddle and get every Companion and you get both Dragon King Viserys and King Viserys alternates!
---[X] During free moments throughout the month, when not holding court functions, not giving grand sweeping speeches or making momentous announcements, he will interview various people throughout the Imperium, asking carefully prepared questions which either serve an educational purpose, or merely pure and simple propaganda. Teana would lean towards the former, Waymar the latter, as an example. Include a discussion with someone like up-and-coming business owners in SD or Tyrosh who have really taken advantage of the greatest changes that have occurred these last several months. Or a former Slave who has managed to work his way up to an Officer, for surely there is at least one or two by now. Make sure they are well-coached beforehand. The setting should be equally tasteful and suited to the interviewee.
---[X] Announce the Dates of Tournament events throughout the month in between other things taking up your time, and where more information can be acquired (details on prizes, what the events involve, where they are held).
---[X] Make a series of speeches spaced throughout the month, about:
--[X] 1) The Network of roads, bridges and canals, both completed and planned. The sweeping changes these infrastructural improvements will bring, the guard posts that will secure them and all who travel through the land, and the messengers who dutifully connect the people to each other from far and wide.
--[X] 2) The Legion and their due diligence upon the field of war, the unfortunate reality that the chaos of the age has required their constant vigilance and presence across the realm, that they simply have no time for a public parade of any sort, but their struggle is not forgotten (nor, implicitly, the people they are being employed against).
--[X] 3) The Annexation of Myr and the Conquest of Lys, the events preceding and unfolding at present, and what will be done from there with their acquisition.

Any more ideas? Padding out the details somewhat with fluff would really help make for flavorful interludes later on.

@Goldfish @Azel

An idea to give out more than four plots of land would be those tourney winners getting especially good and large parts of it. We could then offer smaller spots for 'men who distinguish themselves in and out of the tourney.' That would give a lot of ambitious knights hope that they could still get land even if they don't win the massive competition by swearing to us.
Now is as good a time as any to let them know that priorities have shifted somewhat.
Now's also not a great time for that, seeing as this whole thing is a PR focused event. We can give an inch here, it really doesn't matter.

@Goldfish Make the Melee a full-on 1v1 Tournament bracket. Maybe with a follow-up free-for-all event for those not as confident.

Alright, let's get the details out of the way.

This is our current stockpile, with the 92 lbs of Valyrian Steel spent on weapons gifted to approved faiths in Sorcerer's Deep already accounted for.
16,331 lbs of Valyrian Steel
And this is what we're going to be using to forge the Harbinger.
Cost: 15500 lbs of Valyrian Steel, Wildfyre Orb, 40000 IM in enchanting materials.
That leaves 831 lbs of Valyrian Steel at our disposal.

300 lbs is earmarked for the trip to Yi Ti, which then leaves us with 531 lbs.

We have plenty for our propaganda purposes, and even if we didn't, I deliberately didn't use up all the spiders for a reason. In the unlikely event that we run out, we can just make more Valyrian Steel.

I'm not too enthusiastic with land price either. The (formerly) Disputed Lands and rest of the Hinterlands were barely developed. This is not the kind of environment where a Westerosi Knight would serve as decent overlord. The Essossi nobility, for all their corruption, were at least proper merchants. The Westerosi nobility on the other hand look down on trade and economics.

That aside, the updated gold prices seem rather low, don't they? It's not like we're hurting for money, so I think we can afford to be generous here. The higher the price money, the more people will be willing to risk the journey.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Get out of my brain, Crake! There's scary shit in here, dude...

--[X] Include a joust, a melee, archery and a spellcasting event.
---[X] The joust and archery events will be handled in the traditional manner.
----[X] There will be no melee free-for-all. Instead fighters will be paired against one another in single elimination bracket matches that will be broadcast via MirrorVision each day of the festival. Between matches, the fighters will be healed of injuries so that each round is between two fresh combatants. The final day of the festival will see the last round of matches between eight semi-finalists.
-----[X] Mage duels will be handled similarly to the melee event, though the final day of the festival will only pit the two finalists against one another, due to the limited magic available to low level spellcasters.

Looks like we're finishing up all that nasty business with those fiends, eh?

So how 'bout that blood sacrifice?

Y'all got any more of that HD?

Edit: 100% True Outsider.
Blood Sacrifice Monks or Sword Sages
Though why not both:V
You all know the idea of a entire order of blood magic kung fu fighters we terrorize others with appeals to your draconic sense of power and domination. Also if we ever become a God like thing then Blood Magic is going to be a domain or just Blood in general. We really are highly invested into blood sacrifice to the point that Viserys looks at all enemies in terms of how much is this one ritualy being killed worth?:drevil:

That's one of my main concerns, yeah. I don't want to end up hindering our own development with this.

Yeah, the prizes definitely need to have their cash raised. Not obscene Robert levels, but definitely more than they are.

Take 100,000 IM and invite others to chime in to show their wealth and generosity. Bragging rights.

That sounds cute, but will come off as silly in practice. I would rather let Glyra loose on the cities to do something like this at her iwn discretion.

@Goldfish, add mine with both these changes to the vote!

And that would seriously hamper them if they were trying to set in a Free city and become a merchant, but that's not what we're asking of them. What we want is exactly what knights have been doing for centuries, set up farmers and villages while policing the land and enforcing their Lord's authority, as well as being high-quality troops in times of war. Not having a comprehensive understanding of trade or respect for economics isn't actually that big a deal in this regard, this ain't going to significantly hamper our development.

I've increased the prize money to 5000 for 1st place, 3000 for 2nd, and 1500 for third for each category. Keep in mind that prior to our rediscovery of the method to create Valyrian Steel, the stuff was almost priceless in Westeros. We're also giving out a lot of enchanted gear, too, all of it very hard to come by elsewhere. If someone is capable of placing in the top three positions, they're already formidable, so giving them basic adventurers gear on top of that is a serious prize that significantly enhances their prowess.

As for the land, the former Disputed Lands are no longer disputed. They're going to be developed by us in the coming months and years. Getting a nice piece of that now can't hurt, and the good-sized chunk of prize money would allow them to set up shop, build a home, hire workers, etc.

The knights will mostly be placed in strategic locations as a control mechanism against the Magisters. None of them get cities as their domain.

Also, integration has to start somewhere and we do need some local bastions to tie the land together.

Also we have direct rule bonuses. If we direct stimulus into their fiefdom with intent to improve the land and develop the region, one, we can write laws to ensure that land rights allow the transition from "hamlets surrounding a holdfast policing the area" into "several townships and a major settlement with multiple burgeoning businesses" years down the line.
