In that case it'd largely defeat the point. Just like with Daenerys there'll be some amount of Quislings in all of Slavers Bay. What we'd want is the city to openly side with us, even if it's by convincing the army to coup the reigning nobility or something along those lines.

Convincing their Legion military to attempt a military coup sounds good in concept, but it is formed out of citizens (largely with officers coming from the same noble families in all likelihood), and the freemen are at least decently treated under the current system (and probably own a slave if they're older, early thirties/late twenties, much like the Romans).

You're not looking at El Presidente getting deposed by his generals, you're looking at... I'll let you find an apt comparison, Ghiscar is very bothersome to think about at length.

Rhaella ironically is our courtly intrigue expert, innit she?

She spent over a decade floundering in Aerys' court as he filled it with lickspittles who went "Oh yes burn everything! You are the smartest person ever!" on pain of death. We've essentially gone and given her free reign of forming our court. She's probably having the time of her life tbh.

Hrrrmm how high up were the trainers we hired? I'm now intrigued by the diplomacy route.

Teana is hitting level 11, right? And her PrC ended at 10. Time for another!

My point and hope is that New Ghis is sufficiently different from the rest of Slavers Bay that we don't have to hold back vomit at the thought of collaborating with them. Until we learn more about them, this is all speculation.

I am all for alternatives to bloody conquest. By all means, please seek out rational perspectives among the din of stupidity and callous cruelty likely infesting the place. It would, in all sincerity, be preferable for a smooth (er, smoother) transition over conventional conquest.

But as with @TalonofAnathrax's well-known opinions on the current ruling class of Essos, we should also have that army of administrators trained up.

You know.

Just in case.

Hey @DragonParadox, how about making Teana a Shadowcraft Mage? She's definitely sufficiently naturally connected to illusion magic to bypass the "must be a gnome" requirement, IMO.
And while she doesn't have 4 ranks in Hide, we could just give them to her as she levels. We still won't be sending her into battle much anyway, so this is mostly a cool background thing. Show Zherys that every path to power leads somewhere!

I've got dibs on Teana! She's my project!
This fine with you? It's a great class after all, and it would give her some much-needed blasting versatility at level 3.

I'd actually try to see if they would be willing to negotiate first. They consider themselves the true heirs of Ghiscar over Slaver's bay and have a culture and pride that isn't entirely based around the institution. If we promised them, say, the 'Lord-Paramouncy' of Ghiscar and did the same thing we did in Myr, subvert the key factions and influential nobility, I'm willing to bet they'd actually flip.
I highly doubt it, and even if they were willing to negotiate I'm unwilling to let any of them be the regent of Slaver's Bay.

This has been my preferred plan for every single Free City actually.
The deal is, with the former Valaryian colonies we had a degree of legitimacy by being a Targaryen with dragons. Although the 'no slavery' is a deal breaker for a lot of them, we can depend on people doing what the Tyroshi are and proclaiming us Valaryia come again as a way of justifying collaborating with our reign, despite us being a westerosi barbarian destroying their way of life. With Slaver's Bay, that's actually a disadvantage, as not only do they fetishize slavery they're also not exactly fans of the Freehold. We're not going to be able to depend on the non-slave population accepting our reign, which means we're effectively going to have to exterminate and replace Ghiscari aristocracy, and probably their culture at large. Or at least the twitching abomination of it that survived Valaryia's occupation.

Greater Shadow Amalgamation: What is Shadow but another form of Illusion? The Shadow Sculptor has learned to apply her Shadow Amalgamation to all Illusion spells, not just those with the Shadow descriptor.
Hey @Goldfish, while the text is very cool, I fear you may have typed it backwards. You sure you didn't mean "What is Illusion but another form of Shadow?"
She is learning to use her Shadow-based ability more broadly, after all.
She's really just noticing that the trick applies to all Illusion spells just like Shadow spells, right?

Valaena is offended at your mixup :D

Would Gladiator's Gauze be a good item to commission en masse for the legion? It's slotless, 35 gp (18 gp for crafting) and is automatically consumed to stabilize the wearer when they reach 0 hp and also stops bleeding caused by using psionic focus as a swift action. We might even be able to drop the psionic use of the item to make it cheaper.

Would probably help with legion casualties against mundane enemies.

Sure the class looks fitting in terms of fluff and the crunch is certainly not that powerful compared to some others you guys have.

Oh, Teana learns 1 level 2, 3, 4 and 5 spell this level. Sweet!
What are you going for Goldfish?
I kinda like Dark Way (excellent battlefield control at the low price of a level 2 spell slot!) or Misdirection.
For level 3 spells there are many good picks (Alter Fortune? Suggestion? Hesitate? Displacement?), but it feels OOC for her not to have Major Image.
For level 4 spells, well... That really depends on where you want to bring her. But I'm a fan of Celerity, Greater Invisibility, or maybe Remove Curse (she works in a magic school) or Charm Monster.
For level 5 spells, as she already has Teleport it will again depend on what kind of role you see her having. Personally I have a fondness for Duelward, a spell that lasts 1 round/level and allows counterspelling as an immediate action. Or Persistent Image (illusion without concentration), or Mirage Arcana.

@Goldfish Woot! Whatever you're cooking up had better be incredible if it wants to beat Shadowcraft mage. I'm playing one right now at high level and it's ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
[Also with a few feats they can cast Miracle spontaneously from a first level slot, which is amazing in a whole other way]

We are now the proud overlord of 16.4 million people and our monthly military budget alone is larger then a Keyholders net worth.
To be fair, Uthero probably gained a zero or two to his net worth since the system change.
Oh, and we need stats for Mia (and Mya). I think we know what level Mia was at, but not Mya.
You know, we could roll these here, would be fun. 4d6 drop lowest reroll ones?

Shadowcraft Mage is the obvious choice.

It does look nice.

Teana is also going to get some gear upgrades; the Raiment of the Four to be exact.

That will let her retrain Magic Missile for something else, cast Fireballs and Freedom of Movement without knowing the spells, and retrain Teleport into a different spell.

That wasn't a joke by the way. If we invest the actions for it, we could establish Inquisition outposts in the Ghiscari cities, which then allows us to take one free Intrigue action there each month.
