Excellent.

By the way... is he a Runecrafter?

I'm in the middle of a reread, and when I got to Sallosh I noticed the Iron Golems are rune-crafted, and there was also a rune-door.

Or were the runecrafters just his long dead makers?

Even if he wasn't he should still learn the art of rune crafting. I mean no one is reading the book right now and he would probably need a day to read it right?

It's less a book and more an entire trove of runelore.

I don't mind him learning, but he's got his own priorities. Let him figure out how to make other Warforged first, then we can order him around.

I am curious as to how big some books are. Like for example Richards book on mage slaying and Waymar's book on Alchemy. You think they are like University textbook size or those thick dictionary-esque books?

Ser Richard's would likely be short, direct, and full of useful and intuitive pictures. I imagine Waymar's to be a basic primer on alchemy with increasingly difficult and dangerous formulas later in the book, so more like a university textbook.

Part MMDXXXVI: Gift Beyond Gold
Gift Beyond Gold

Twenty-Eight Day of the Seventh Month 293 AC

Once your business in Braavos is complete you make your way to the realm of stone, though not through the passage Dany and Lya have forged, for your destination was not the Opaline Vault with its myriad wonders and wealth beyond compare. No, you are seeking a more particular treasure, a metal bright as silver and rarer than gold, at least in the world under the sun: quicksilver. The seed of a new breed of skyship, or at least so you hope.

The Xorn are obviously glad to see you, having so greatly profited from trade with your realm, and while none of them had any taste for confronting the deadly demon-kin who were set to dwell near the closest lake of quicksilver, Echo Caller surprises you with an unexpected gift. He alongside other scouts of the deep paths had placed 'anchor stones' near the passages leading to the quicksilver lake, pieces of larger rocks that could then be used to scry the locations of their fellows, thus no longer requiring of you and your companions to make the journey in person. Even Malarys, from whose lips praise rarely passes, congratulated the Xorn on their foresight. Of all of you he had been among the least enthused about crossing the sunless roads, save perhaps Ser Richard.

"It's a lot like fighting in a war," he had confessed. "Getting bored out of your head for days mixed in with a few moments of horrible danger so you can't even doze off for the boring parts."

Waymar and Tyene had laughed and even Mereth smiled lightly, though in her case you suspect the good cheer may have been caused by how well the Xorn had taken the presence of a baatezu among your company. The clan's warriors are just wary enough of her presence as not to be counted an insult to her skill at arms, but otherwise the elders had taken your explanation of her nature and allegiance at face value. It seems devil mercenaries are unusual in these realms, but not so much that the presence of one would outweigh the word of a trusted ally.

Judging from the curious looks Rock Shaker is throwing the Fury, though, you had best be off before the amenable greeting devolves into a flood of questions.

The scrying mirror shows a long narrow chamber shaped almost like the blade of a knife. Strange greenish spikes drip down from the ceiling, seemingly too fragile to support their own weight. The floor is also covered in thick green dust which the Xorn tell you are poisonous to creatures of flesh.

"How poisonous?" Tyene asks with a craftsman's interest.

"Enough that breathing in a few mouthfuls is enough to kill. A bad death it is." Elder Mountain Heart balances back and forth on two of his three legs in the equivalent motion of sadly shaking his head.

"Is there any arcane quality to this dust, perhaps demon's spoor?" Lya interjects. In the absence of Vee she is the one most interested in the value of monster organs and flesh in this expedition.

That the Stone Swimmers know not the answer for all their preparation. They explain that the chamber of the green dust is the last safe passage before the quicksilver lake, that you should protect yourselves with sorcery before translocating there and that the demons seem to shun it as is demonstrated that not a single living thing is present within.

What do you do next?

[] Teleport to the chamber
-[] Write in preparations

[] Trade with the Xorn first
-[] Write in

[] Write in

OOC: Yes, the Xorn realized you are absurdly busy and decided to give you the gift of a teleport point because you were such a good ally. Not all surprises have to be bad.
