Reachers rely more on a grounding of courtesy, chivalry, and honor to safeguard against potential political fumbles.

Even in the Reach amongst each other, those who have been at one another's proverbial throats, they trust each other within their own purview to exchange taps and face rather than blood and gold.

The latter two are nice, but their viciousness is more civil than other places. It is part of their "identity", so to speak. They are the "knights of summer". In the north, this would have come to blows. Even in the Riverlands, where men are just, if not more, prickly, and used to being tread upon by everyone else.

Edits done The following paragraph has been added, an appeal to pride:

Taking a deep breath she continues: "In the age of dawn when the world was young young fey and mortal moved in concordance, there was peace and no dominion. the use of our powers we traded freely for for the work of men's hands and minds. Is it any wonder that we would offer so much more now that you have grown in skill and artistry beyond the dreams of the ancients?" So deftly does she flatter, you realize grudgingly admiring. To speak of times long gone not as a lost golden age, but one lesser than the one these men could forge gives them reason to be proud and seek unity of purpose with her all at once.
Missing capital letters in there.

Well random Reach person is technically sworn to Mace-->Robert and Viserys is fighting against them so that totally counts as treason or something among those lines (traitor and treason are punchier words than 'enemy combatant' . also not sure there's a term for "head of state that we' re only in a cold war with since hes busy elsewhere and we can't do Jack shit" )
Just go with dragonspawn if you're looking for something insulting.

Calling Viserys a traitor when his house was the one that was usurped makes the drunk Reachman seem braindead rather than drunk.

I am amused because she simply cannot see how bad of a situation this could have been. They come into an area where raiding is not only sanction but government approved. We raised the flags of parlay which they refused. There are Tritons swarming under the ship. The crew has every justification to sink this damm ship. If it wasn't for their house flag that ship would be underwater right now. She is extremely lucky that she, the ship and these dumbass Reach men aren't singing a shanty at the bottom of the ocean. Naval doctrine would be demanding shots fired right now. I am imagining this happening in the high seas of the Caribbean and all I can think is "oh this ship sunk".
To be fair, they had the biggest spellcaster, before we came over.

Moonsong would have had to play an extremly careful and clever game to get the Lea-knockoff in from of the ship's weapons, because if those didn't get a clean shot Dusk could have killed them all.

I mean we could probably have teleported there quick enough to intervene in a fiery fashion.

I mean, on a purely reactive level as the sovereign power in these waters, she was clearly sent to directly counter us. That's basically saying "We're coming in to take this and fuck you." without much in the way of artistry. No matter how she dresses this up, she's not here to 'observe' or 'smooth things over'. She was sent along so that, if we decided to just burn them all, they'd have some means of defending themselves. Probably not enough, but she'd probably get out fine. So my patience for whatever exists now of the Court of Stars is beginning to wear a little thin.

Tobe fair she really is not the type to try and win battles by direct magical conflict. Viserys' impression of her is that she would consider being pushed into that sort of battle a defeat in and of itself regardless of the outcome.

Ha point. Substituted with stuff that a typical Westeorsi probably finds just as offensive as treason. But it doesn't dampen the fact that she probably has waaaayyyyy better PR among these dudes than we do.

How about we just stop playing all of these games and cut to the main thrust of the argument.

[] Legally this is mine, it's in my land, i've claimed it, and you've done little to convince me to otherwise. You weren't even playing at civility or attempting to hide the fact that you wanted to steal from my territory before I got here. You have a claim to it as well and I'm not against giving it to you, but it's not in my best interest, and I believe not in the best interests of my subjects as well as my Westerosi subjects to be, to just give it you with nothing in exchange, whether that be material, magical, oaths of loyalty to me or to some other lord who fits certain parameters, of even just any sort of guarantee that this will not be a deal that the people of the Reach will come to regret. You've made it clear that you are unable to do any of these things, so I suggest that we take this to your superior. I can't transport us there rather quickly as long as I have a guarantee from you and your superior that this meeting will be had in good faith, no harm shall come to either side unless the other side strikes first, no attempts shall be made to trick or make the other side strike first, no supernatural persuasion shall be employed, and there shall be no attempts to prevent the other party from returning to their base of power peacefully at any point before, during, or after the meeting.

Cause she's flat out said that, as she is not in charge, she cannot make any of the concession we are looking for. Talking to her is rapidly becoming a waste of our time, so let us move on to the people who can make the concessions we are looking for.

Edit: I don't necessarily mean this vote precisely, it's a little clunky, I'm sick so my head isn't working properly, and I'm not even fully caught up yet so I'm sure I missing something vital here. This is more meant to be an inspiration for a better plan, not the plan I want to go with.

Double Edit: Maybe add in something about meeting on neutral territory as well? Specific locations would not be a terrible idea.

Sending takes 10 minutes to cast.
We'd have found a finished battle, either way.

Maybe, but it would likely be her only chance for any type of win.
I doubt the Reachers could stand up to the Rhaella's armaments or Moonsong's crew, so if things had escalated before our arrival there wouldn't be many options.

How about something like this:

[X] "The picture you paint is a pleasing one, my lady. Would that we all lived in such pleasant times. Yet you yourself have said that your words are not your Court's; a poor king would I be if I mistook a knight for their liege.

As it stands, the crown is mine, and I will not give it up without more surety than you can give. However, if some envoy of your Court sought me out in the deep, I would be glad to discuss more binding terms agreeable to both parties."

Anyway, my read of the situation is that the Tyrells might have intervened with the Fey to Ressurect Horan, as to secure the loyalty of the Redwynes, and now must pay up on their bargain.

I feel like we've gotten as far as we need to in this line of questioning. What we need to do now is to get as much information about the bargain as possible, and secure the crown with an arrangement to negotiate at a later date. We also need to ensure that the Westerosi here leave with a good opinion of us or take steps to secure their loyalty, potentially through figuring out the bargain and providing it ourselves.

It's getting close to midnight for me so I'll unfortunately have to leave it at two updates for today. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive writing wise, though with it being Christmas proper I can't make any promises.

Right, that's what I was trying to make clear in my vote. Fundamentally there is nothing she can say to us to get the crown because her words aren't binding, and we cannot trust the court to hold to any agreement she makes.

She's also not willing to make any bargains with us for the crown because apparently the Tyrells need it to pay up on one they made. So sad for Mace.

When we get the crown it's going straight into the most secure place in the world -- right inside our cloak.

I would love to see someone try to steal it.

Just tell her that she's paying us to help the Tyrell's pay their side of the bargain.

Alternatively, she could simply have the Tyrell's pay us directly for it so the Tyrell's can then pay her.
