A Reforged World (NO SV, You are King of Italy, in a Greatly Changed World)

[X] Plan: Of Armies and Industry Mark 2

Weird thought, but will Japan be obsessed with Italy in this timeline instead of France when they start to modernize during the Tokugawa Era?

...and now, instead of Enlightenment/Revolutionary France, I'm seeing an intense obsession with Roman Empire spreading to all corners of the globe...and pizza.

There may not be a tokugawa era. Nobunaga is a crafty son of a bitch, and won't underestimate the worth of the steam engine. He may just conquer Japan well ahead of Monkey's coalition and betrayal, assuming one of the other bastards doesn't. Date Masamune was famous for fielding heavy cavalry with really high quality armor, so I could see him shelling out for some foreign rifles and becoming a major lord instead of being strong armed into Monkey's service.

Ehh. I'd drop all comparisons honestly. We aren't trash like the Roman slaver republic or hypocrites like Napoleonic France. This is the one and only United Kingdoms of Italy.

Ehh. I'd drop all comparisons honestly. We aren't trash like the Roman slaver republic or hypocrites like Napoleonic France. This is the one and only United Kingdoms of Italy.
There isn't a comparison, it's known that there was a massive revival of interest in the Roman Empire during this period, largely in the realms of art and architecture, so much so that it became a cultural landmark for Italy...and it's already been going on for nearly a hundred years. Even if wanted to avoid the connotations with Rome, of them being a slaver republic, we're dealing with a history and tradition that predates our cause. If anything, us choosing to largely eradicate slavery will be compared to, contrasted with and seen an extension of the later stages of the Roman Empire, where slavery (especially in the gladiatorial pits) was starting to fall to the wayside in favor of willing volunteers.

But my point wasn't that there would be a comparison, it was more to do with us being in a specific place and time to create a cultural obsession with our country in Japan, akin to their current OTL obsession with France during that era of history, stemming from how French were largely the ones who helped them rapidly accelerate into the modern era and that became a cultural touch stone for them, to the point there's an actual psychological condition they've termed for when a Japanese tourist goes to France and expectations do not meet reality.

But you're also ignoring the fact that even if Masumune wanted to rapidly expand his territory through the usage of the steam engine he would have to import a metric craptton of usable material, given that Japanese iron tends to be heavily...flawed. That's going to be the sticking point, which means it likely won't occur until we'll after the Suez Vinci Cannal gets built.

Japanese Iron is flawed, japanese steel, not so much, and thats before potential leak of Luciano's technique toward the east over the next century. We are largely importing things now do to our own flawed resources and exceeding costs exponentially for this turn and the next nine. It's not entirely a deadlock. It wasn't cheap outfitting hundreds of cavalry soldiers in Japanese heavy plate, but Date Masamune footed the bill.

As this is the end of book 3...

The Disaster Roll will arrive, to see what the fuck is going to be our next big challenge is.

Well we need scalable filter tech that can be applied in all industrial situations and locations dumbed down and made cheap enough that nations don't decide to not include them because of costs.

Hnm..That may lead to the creation of an Italian John Snow that basically founded modern Medical ideas as he'd be intrigued with less Sickness in Rome (Better Sewers and Drinking Water) compared to other cities without the New Roman Sewers.

Which leads towards (After experimenting with glass and other material mixed with sunlight) the creation of Microscope and the discovery (with clear evidence and importance to a person's health..sick and not sick) of Bacteria..aka Germ Theory.

Yep, the Sewer problem of London helped the prooving of Germ Theory..especially with less sickness reported after the underground sewers were created.

But no one has invented Germ Theory yet.

Which brings an interesting conondrum. While the concept of Miasma (Basically cursed-filled air..and you can prove it through air-based sickness) isn't new, I'm sure less sickness in Rome after the Sewers would lead towards many Old and New Medical Experts being intrigued with the "Phenomenon". Thus leads towards the concept that Miasma isn't the only way of sickness, and introduced Water-borne ones.

There would've been at least one person, who'd want to study the water itself..wanting to know how it can even bring sickness.

Book 3: Final Chapter.
Book 3: Final Chapter.
A New Challenge appears.

The Navy's Reactions:D100 => 61

As you looked through many of the reports, and the approval of such a thing, there were going to always be problems.

The army, as is tradition to maritime powers, was always neglected by the Navy, yet there is never anything that would have caused you to fear mutiny. The Navy was well trained, the Sea Lord was practically a saint among his men, and he was an ally who was enjoying his status.

But the Army in this new and final budget of this Government, was practically set. The Navy got its share, but far more resources were sent to the Army, far more than ever done before.

The army, the Generals, captains and garrisons thanked you, and most of the men were drinking to your heath.

The Navy… said nothing. There was grumbling yes. There was anger yes.

But you had spoken, and this government had its orders. So… they agreed and listened.

Reward: Army Reforms unlocked.

New Actions Available.

The Election:

The Grazini's:D100 => 42

The Moderates:D100 => 17

The Republicans:D100 => 49

To say that the election was incredibly close… was a drastic understatement.

The Moderate's failure in the foreign policy game, despite massive economic growth and millitary adventures, and the starting of the new Italian Education system, did not see them respond well in the polls for the election. And it seems that the Grazini's with the hero Medici… Well as heroic and politically talented as the man who helped unify Italy… And he promised even greater wealth, and… glory.

They gained quite a bit in the north and Naples and Sicily.

It was Senator Octavian, that capitalized on the numerous smaller issues that had been ignored by this government. The school system was nice, yes, and had great political policy success. He promised liberation

But no one ever expected it to be a divided government.

No one had a majoraty.

The English were not happy with that. It seems that the English Admiralty and the Navy captains spoke to Parliment.

And they convinced them that such a treaty would only harm England and her navy.

And it was something that England agreed.

You rebuilt Rome in your own image. And it would all be because of one thing. Lead pipes were replaced with Steel ones.

And then it went even further. Aquaducts rebuilt. Water flowed into the city, safe drinking water.

And then you needed to send the waste water out… and then it got more and more.

Every project just got bigger, as one problem was solved.

But you liked the challenge. And all it did was prove how right you were.

Reward: Rome's entire sewer system was replaced and rebuilt in 6 months. The city never has to worry about dirty drinking water. And now it can grow bigger.

The Pope even praised you.

2. He bloodied the Ottomans something fierce, killing one of their greatest generals.

And Severin and the Order of Solutions have a bounty of 20 million silver on their heads by the Ottoman sultan.

Reward: Severin… has slaughtered an Ottoman army, and is now fighting his way through the entire Middle East trying to get to a safe place where he won't immediately be killed.

You give it 50/50 odds that he makes it. You do not underestimate that mercenary madman.

To think of just how simple it was. It required water yes, an incredible amount of it, and than the bellows and then cloth, usually sheep wool… because it was cheaper.

But after a while, while the coal is still toxic and causing you coughing fits, you could spend far longer dealing with it, and working in it.

Honestly, you think if you didn't do it, you probobly would be getting sick, or worse.

The emissions by Italian industries are far less now. The Italian industry is far more effective.
