Some things don't last forever.
You were looking at your master breathing, in and out, as you looked to the doctors tending to him. "What is wrong with him?"
"He had another heart attack, and we were able to keep him from dying… but he will be weak. Incredibly weak." The doctor said. "He may not survive the night."
"Don't tell me that." You shouted, but instead, you walked into his room. Your Master was reading, quietly and he looked at you.
"Always impatient, can't you wait?"
"I thought you were-" You stopped as he shushed you.
"As you can see, I am not. Weakened perhaps, but I am not dead nor an invalid," he replied as you sat down across from him, looking and waiting. "You know what I'm going to say."
"I know, but I don't accept it." You stated. "You saved me as a child, and protected me from those that would seek to use me, or worse, kill me because they were afraid of me."
"I did." He replied. "And I have raised a fine young man who is now doing his best to make sure the Dream I had…" He paused. "You keep on asking me for my advice. But instead, it is I that am now asking for advice." He smiled.
"What?"
"Luciano, I have been doing everything in my power to keep you safe and help you. But there comes a time when I cannot anymore. And I am asking you… what about the things I want? How much have I sacrificed, for you… and what can I do now, to make what little time I have left on this earth… worthwhile."
You found yourself quiet and silent, thinking but instead of answering you looked at your bag, and removed the book from it. The Prince. The book that has taught you so much.
"I think it would be a shame to have one of the world's foremost writers… just… stop writing." You smirked.
Your master smiled. "Perhaps."
You smiled. "Live well Master. I hope to see you again."
He then held out his hand and placed it on the book, and handed it to you. "I have another draft… a better one personally. About how I unified Italy."
You nodded. "I can't wait to read it."
