even Varys doesn't have agents half so competent/experienced as us when it comes to subtlety and spy work, and it's not even our area of focus.
I would be completely unsurprised if, in an effort to match us, Varys started meddling with darker forces. He was all too willing to see us burned in Wildfire.

We'll see. If we could locate the original flavor Renly, convincing Not-Renly that he's not the real one but hey, we have this perfectly chaos-ridden city that needs virtuous guiding hands to hold the reins for him if he's in need of new employment... it could be in the cards.
Nah. We loot Fenly and leave the original to whatever he's doing these days.

Then Stannis is in charge of Storms End by default and falls to us like a domino.

Then we loot one Baratheon and one off-brand copy at the same time. :V

I would be completely unsurprised if, in an effort to match us, Varys started meddling with darker forces. He was all too willing to see us burned in Wildfire.

Varys had no clue who he was hiring, or that it'd spend ALL the gold he gave it on wildfire.

I don't forgive the eunuch for that, just that what he paid for was an extraction of Stannis, not a terror attack.

I don't see how he could have stopped the Mindflayer - It went to him to get Wildfire to use against us. His culpability is not wholly assured.

Though he probably bears quite a bit of the responsibility, we just don't know for sure.

My guess is he paid for exactly what he wanted, but didn't know at all how the Mindflayer, who he didn't know was a Mindflayer, would go about it.

He paid him in gold, and the Mindflayer used the gold to buy wildfire from the Alchemist's Guild, then left the city to go perform a terror attack, capture Stannis from us, brainwash him to use as an agent for the Deep One coalition, etc.

Varys thought he was buying a sorcerer's assistance, not paying for the privilege of earning our enmity.

I actually believe that what DragonParadox is hinting at is we could try bargaining with it, like say, no true death... but fuck that shit, amirite?
I have no interest in bargaining with it. I want those grafts.

Also, it very nearly completely fucked us over here. If it escaped we would have been screwed and gained a reputation for breaking parlay. That is the absolute lowest you can go in Westeros.

So no. The devil doesn't escape.

@DragonParadox

Well, there you go. @Duesal highlighted it best. If it really comes down to cold hard "it's the shiny or the information which may lead to more tantalizing shiny"...

Wait.

Maybe that's it. We bargain with it, it leads us to even more devils, who have even more shiny/grafts.

This thing was extremely close to successfully giving us a reputation as bad as canon!Walder Frey. If two things are held sacred in Westeros, they're Guest Right and Parlay. The devil almost got away with convincing the Stormlanders that we broke parlay. We wouldn't even have a reputation after that, our word would be worth less than dirt.

I don't want to make any deals with this thing, I don't have any interest in whatever twisted bargains it might offer even if they might lead to other devils. I want to rip its power from its flesh then sacrifice the rest of it to our gods.

EDIT: THIS is why everyone in ASOIAF hates the Dornish. They broke parlay and murdered Daeron the Young Dragon under a truce banner, and for that their reputation has been stained for centuries.

We intend on more thoroughly interrogating it at Sorcerer's Deep before disposing of it in such a way that it could not re-manifest and plague us with further assassination attempts, method unspecified other than that there are multiple avenues to doing so and that simply killing it doesn't destroy it entirely, just sends it back to Hell, if asked. If Renly is brave enough to request being brought along to observe the interrogation, point out how politically disastrous it would be to be observed as not a prisoner, but an ally, however of convenience it might yet be, in our fief. Then point out that it serves both Renly and Viserys better to keep this between those Knights and Lords here.
-[X] If Renly still insists, we will use our standard MOP in dealing with the Fiend, minus any overt brain-melting, then BP it again for later disposal.
[X] Though I agree that all men should join together in the face of such threats, that fact is that I came here to discuss a ransom. The fact is that you are the lords and knight beholden to one that has taken hostile action against me, when I had not struck against them [exile from Braavos, that fleet that we failed to properly capture, possibly Wildfire attack, but that them being used as a proxy]. The fact is that I could head to Braavos, Tyrosh, Pentos, Quarth and I would find such evils, or ones of a different ilk. Don't even ask me about Ib. So, knowing that I could literally go anywhere and save lives, why should I spend my time helping the people who serve those that strike at me, (a glance to Criston), those that would insult my friends, over spending that same irreplaceable time saving those who's lords/leaders/rulers have done me and mine no injury?
-[X] Me and mine are willing to help you, but in return, I want an Inn. We will help you if you say we can have one of your taverns. Any, one, of your taverns.

We can make a deal with it, cooperate and we will destroy you, but in such a way that you will eventually be reborn in Hell, or refuse to cooperate, which will lead to us getting creative in our interrogation techniques, followed by True Death as Yss chow.

Either way, we can still harvest it for grafts and sacrifice it. Yss for True Death, OG for continued existence.

[X] Crake

Don't all methods of sacrifice lead to True Death?

Or just the soul digestion method that Yss utilizes?

Do we have enough of the cornugon to use It as a puppet?
Incidentally, it should be stuffed, but missing a horn.
What @Tomcost said. We've got the entire thing stuffed. :D

Apparently the Old Gods just want the blood and life force but don't care about the soul.

Just Yss. The Old Gods don't eat souls,as eveidenced by how Damphair went to meet his God upon death.

Also, @Azel , do you know if and how could we make a deal with some Devil to help us demote those fiends that really cross us?

Not quite. The Stormalnders and Reachmen also hate them because of a history of raids and invasions going back millennia. Also the fact that their culture has grown so divergent from the mainstream of the Seven Kingdoms does not help. That said the betrayal is certainly among the first things that come to mind when someone justifies animosity to the Dornish.

@DragonParadox for some reason, these last two updates were really, really good.
Garin learns new 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level spells, and his Darkstalker ability gets a +8 bonus (maybe). @TotallyNotEvil The PrC's ability table shows Darkstalker increasing to +8 at 6th Twilight Hunter level, but the text in the ability entry doesn't match up. It instead says +6 at 5th level and +8 at 9th level.
Text is right, DP felt it too stronk.
Front page updated, including the two rings you guys wanted handed out. Richard's saves are getting really strong.
That's the idea, ya? He is the guy who, someway somehow, just swords through things by gritting his teeth when some dark lord or the other casts Avada Kedavra his way.
Do we have enough of the cornugon to use It as a puppet?
This is fucking genius. We could just fabricate one of those bobhead/huge masks to look like it, missing horn and all.

It will be hilarious.

Sounds great.
Why is the guy who is not really a Westerosi Lord the best Westerosi Lord we met so far?
Because he's what one of the few nice Westerosi Lords, think a Westerosi Lord should be, You can say a lot about original Renly, but how New Renly is acting, shows that regardless of his ability to live up to it, original Renly had good intentions and believed that a ruler should actually care about his people.
You know. We where wondering who to put in charge of Tyrosh a while ago and now we have a shiny Fenly right in front of us...

I'm not saying that we should loot him, but he does fit into pur bag just fine...
If we find original Renly, and he agrees to come back and be Lord Renly, then we can recruit New Renly, but if not we need New Renly to remain here, at least until we have taken over Westeros, at that point we might talk him into agreeing to give Stannis Storms End, and go be Lord of one of our other conquests, but unless we get real Renly back we need him to rule the Stormlands.
Nah. We loot Fenly and leave the original to whatever he's doing these days.

Then Stannis is in charge of Storms End by default and falls to us like a domino.

Then we loot one Baratheon and one off-brand copy at the same time. :V
¨
If we can convince New Renly he's not original Renly then sure, but we aren't using unwilling minions, only loyal people may join the hoard.

I wouldn't want to insult the cornugon tbh. It was polite before it tried to kill us/worse. I mean, still take it's everything, but no need to be rude about it.
