In terms of stretch goals? Studying the Kislev, Laurelorn, and Nehekharan networks would be pretty interesting and could produce some useful insights. And taking a look at some Nexus sites could be good too; discovering that Reikland's status as a breadbasket depends on a deactivated Nexus is very good information to have.
I wouldn't describe studying Kislev and Laurelorn's networks as stretch goals. Thorek and Mathilde pointed out the problems in asking the members questions that the other members also aren't asked to share back when they discussed asking Thorgrim what the KAWN does. I don't think it would matter so much if the Dwarves never learned what the Ice Witches and Eonir do with their nexuses, but Laurelorn's network includes the Empire. It'd be really awkward not to ask them about it.

"Either way, it would cause trouble if we were inconsistent in this. Even if we never examine the workings of Ulthuan, both Laurelorn and Kislev would be put out if we started asking questions of them that we did not ask of the Karaz Ankor."

Thorek nods, then frowns in thought. "The opposite would also hold - if the Dwarves were seen to share a glimpse of the most ancient of secrets, then it would be difficult for the Elves and Wyrzhufokri to argue that their own deserve greater consideration."

"It would," you agree.

Yeah, I think we're at the point where we can and probably should politely ask Laurelorn to tell us what exactly they do with the energies gathered by the Middenheim, Salzenmund and Neues Emskrank nexuses, and whether those nexuses in particular have anything interesting going on (e.g. does the holy flame of Ulric have something to do with the nexus or are they unrelated).

They should be less shy about what they're holding back given how much good we've done to Laurelorn's internationalist factions in general, and given the pressure we can exert regarding the nexuses the Empire holds. In particular, getting the Jade Order involved with the distribution of the daisy chain tributaries serves as a huge deterrent for Nordland getting up to shenanigans.

Asides from possibly being told about the magical megaprojects they got going on, their network action might open up new possibilities - we've previously discussed how the Brass Keep seems to be almost exactly east of Middenheim on some maps, so it's not at all out of the question that that's where it used to connect. And as such... well, perhaps Laurelorn can be persuaded with providing some aid to a campaign to retake the Brass Keep. Maybe not, but it's worth bringing up, I think.

As to the ultimate scope of the Waystone Project, I'm in it for the long haul. I'd like to develop at least one or two more types of Waystone and more fully explore different combinations. Remember, Mathilde is the only reason this is happening at all. The more time we put in to the magical conclave we're accumulating, the more momentum it builds. We've got the Kislev Accords and buy-in from Ulthuan. We're rolling them out across the Old World.

Keep it going. Keep pushing. The more success we have, the more success we'll attract. We just got major Jade Order buy-in too on the opportunity to teach elves about magic. 'Start slowly, like an avalanche.' The avalanche isn't big enough yet. Keep at it and make it something big enough that it can sustain itself.

What happens if we call the job a good one now and Mathilde leaves the project? Almost certainly no more international and interparadigm cooperation on researching and developing new Waystones. And certainly that is a success, yielding a reliable new Waystone design, various options for tributaries, and an international system to monitor the whole network. But there'd be likely precious little if any more of active cooperation between elf and dwarf or wizard and witch. I'd like to be able to step away and have built an edifice important enough and prestigious enough that the project might continue in our absence, that there with be a next chairperson of the Waystone Development Conclave and they can make further advances over the next decades to the betterment of all realms.

I am a Waystone Maximalist.

One thing we should start thinking about is what major project will WEBMAT have once the waystone project is done? It's supposed to be about cooperation between divine and arcane casters, and for now the waystone project really does handle that. But once that finishes webmat will need a new flagship project to justify its existance, and while we'll likely have the clout to get people involved after the waystone project completes, there isn't an obvious next project to work on. Doesn't need to be something as big, as unless we go research sabattical it will likely be a side job rather than a primary one. But I'm not seeing a lot of obvious ideas within the branch's mandate.

It's inter and extra-collegiate cooperation, it doesn't have to involve gods. So using it for something like say making sure all the other colleges can pull energies out of Waystones and use them like the jades can, which we can with just the elven Waystone books we have will keep us busy for a while. That said only the Lights have an confirmed use case in the form of curing plagues.

WEB-MAT has already proved through the Waystone Project the value of multiple doctrines of magic working together. Even in the absence of an immediate next multidisciplinary project it could justify its existence as waiting for another opportunity for multiple magical schools to work together to accomplish something great. It's only if there is an extended drought of interdisciplinary magical research that WEB-MAT could assist with that the value of maintaining its continued existence comes into question.

[X] Lord Seilph, the Mystic (NEW)
The Grey Lord, Lord Seilph, is currently erecting Waystones in Sylvania, and the suspected reason for one of the usually-reclusive Grey Lords to be so far from home is an interest in questionable magics. An interest that one could describe you as sharing. See if there's anything of interest to be found in a very cautious talk on the matter.

A very tasty offer indeed.

[X] Okri
You've met Loremaster Okri of Karak Eight Peaks once before. Pay him a visit and see how his great ambitions for heavily-armed Ironbreakers delivered by Gyrocarriage are going.

I don't think it's going to win, but I am curious.

[X] Pan's Treehouse (NEW)
Panoramia has previously been quite happy with her cottage, but when you're a Jade Wizard and you create a mind-bogglingly enormous tree, you can't not build a house in it. Witness how a Druid flexes.

That's right. We can't miss this.

[X] Amber College
Check in on the salamanders.
[X] Skull River Ambush
Look into the investigation of the mining of the Skull River, and any consequences of it.

I just think we should check up on the sabotage were were involved in, and I also just really want to see how the salamanders are doing.

[X] Orb Reveal (NEW-ish)
The Orbs are made, the books are written, the time is right. You'll show them. You'll show them all.
[X] Silk (NEW)
At long, long, long last, Francesco has finally figured out how to weave the We-silk into something that can be worn. Be there for its debuts into the various markets it is destined to disrupt, and make sure that one of the first pieces off the loom - or whatever it is they use - will be your silk sheets.
[X] Karak Vlag books (NEW)
You have recently come into possession of a significant amount of books once owned by the magic users of the Fire Spire and heavily annotated by the Runesmiths Guild of Karak Vlag, two organizations that are now completely destroyed. The amount of lost lore they might contain makes your fingers itch. Set some time aside to read through these tragic remnants from an excised chapter in history.

Can't miss any of these last three, but there is some serious competition here. I'll be happy with any of these eight winning.

[X] Skull River Ambush

[X] Middenland
See how the Ulricans are going with their new Eonir coreligionists.

Right, absolutely no way Orbs and Silk are losing so time to focus on two things that have been ticking my mind forever.
