[X] Enter the camp
-[X] Approach the raven banner

We probably know people both places, but Aki is a closer connection, assuming it's him, which is a fair assumption, really.

Glad to see this has returned. There's a lot of plans and schemes we had for the "final boss" of the Quest which now are so many cobwebs and dew being swept away by the light of morning, but honestly it will be nice to simply challenge ourselves and Halla.

Interested to see Aki has his own banner, he's definitely gone up in the world. (Assuming it's his banner.) Still vaguely hoping we can do a Terminator impression and eliminate Tanghlehair from the timeline, averting his monarchy.

Well. Seems I picked the perfect time to try and get caught up on the story.

That's not to say that I'm never going to write more quests from the Norse perspective, of course. I've got some ideas for a Jarl-focused quest and I wouldn't be opposed to doing a quest based around some of Halla's children's adventures.
Does that mean the plans for NQ2 have been tabled?

To a degree, yes. The scope of what I have planned doesn't really work as a quest, too many things need to line up correctly and that just doesn't work very well with questing as a format.
A shame, I was looking forward to it while getting caught up. At the very least, I hope we can return to the Charred Soul Saga in some form in the future.

Yeah, just because the main Heirs of Blackhand saga can't really be done in a Quest format without missing half the interesting shit in it doesn't mean it's never going to see the light of day.

End of a Journey 3
In the grand scheme of things, two more warriors in a camp laden with them is nothing of much note. Even a warrior-woman like Halla can slip unnoticed by virtue of the large collection of camp followers plying their trade in the wake of an army's passage. More than a few less scrupulous women trail the wagon-train in search of men in need of a night's 'comfort', or a simple wash of clothes.

Halla shakes her head as she passes men more in need of a bath and a change of clothes than the worst of her children's midnight incidents. Halla never quite fit in growing up, for few are sure how to treat a woman who wants to wage war. But, one large benefit of such a youth is that she never experienced the uncertainty of needing to wash and bathe but lacking any trusted women to lend their aid. Cooking is a similar matter, but one with much more urgency that demands someone act and take action.

The wiser, more veteran and firmly entrenched warriors smell like flowers as Halla passes by their tents. Their age giving way to the wisdom of knowing that smelling nice and being clean are of much greater benefit to one's status than simple bath-dynamics. Though she has not yet seen war, Halla can rest easy knowing that she would at least be clean.

Regardless, the forest of banners and sea of tents engulf herself and Abjorn as they make their way deeper in. To have a banner is a mark of great pride and status, for it means that one will lead a column should it be asked of them. Whether or not the banner-bearer has the ability to lead said column is, well, up to chance, fate, and wisdom. Still, no matter the competency, a banner is always a mark of ambition.

So, as Halla nears the raven sword-winged banner, her thoughts can't help but drift to the man who she suspects calls it his own. The last time she saw him, he was a small, slight boy only barely in the realm of being called a man. Now, however, as she stops before an open-faced tent and the man resting inside, a certain sense of hesitation washes across her form.

A hesitation not shared by the man she now stands before.

"Halla?" Aki Swordwing calls out as he rises to his feet, the feathered edges of his bird-shaped tent casting strange shadows across his face. "It seems we meet again."

The only thing shared between the boy she once knew and the man he now is are the two milky-white eyes sitting inside those sockets. Aki's arms are thick with corded muscle and his shoulders are broad and used to hard work. A fresh spear-scar clings to his face, riding the cheekbone from nose to ear and taking a bite out of the lobe. He has grown, too, and now never struggles to reach the ground wherever he so sits.

He seems oddly tense, his muscles flexing as the sword at his hip rattles ever-so-slightly. The sword's make reminds you of Crowfeeder, with its crossguard in the shape of a raven spreading its wings. Feathering clings to the base of the blade, giving it a slightly wavy look as it connects to the guard.

Abjorn crosses his arms, the hints of a growl rattling up the back of his throat, but Halla lays a hand on his shoulder to calm his ire. She steps forward, uncertainty leaving her footsteps shaky, "It's... It's good to see you, Aki."

"Would that I could say the same," he tilts his head to the side as he wiggles fingers at his eyes. A small smile cracks his face, but the tension yet remains, "Have you met with Stigandr?"

Halla purses her lips as she rocks back and forth on her heels, "No, I have not... Is he in Vestfold?"

'I've got a bad feeling,' Blackhand mutters and Halla silently agrees. Aki and Stigr were never close—barely even friends, really—but something must have happened if Aki is calling Stigr by his full name.

"You could say that," Aki's words are flat, but with a sliver of warmth lurking in the shadows. His shoulders relax after a beat, a sigh slipping free of his lips, "I am happy to 'see' you again, Halla, really I am. You just..." he shrugs, frowning all the while, "you caught me at a bad time."

"Something happened, didn't it." It's not a question, so Halla doesn't end it like one.

"Stigandr's thrown his lot in with the Traitor Jarls," Aki's blunt words lack any hint of humor, "we met in skirmish a few days ago and he gave me this," he jerks his thumb at the bright red scar on his face, "so, you could say that something happened, yes."

'Well, shit,' Blackhand sums it up well with a heavy sigh.

What does Halla say to... to that?

AN: Going forward, I think I won't post on Mondays or Fridays, as those are when KoW updates.

Well shit. I have no idea what to say to that. The two never got along so it's not wildly surprising except that we left Stig in the Danelaw. Maybe ask what the conflict here is about? See if there's a possible diplomatic solution for Stigandr at least?

Ask about cousin Hal as well, maybe? I dunno.

Maybe something like this?

[] Ask what the details are on the traitor jarls and the whole situation. Note that we very much did not come here to side with anyone in particular, just trying to visit family of various sorts, as well as Aki himself...ask about Hal Wolfhound in that regard. Also ask if he's heard of Reidar Swordfury being involved in all this, as he should be aware there's some history there and things might get awkward if he and Halla run into each other in the wrong context.

I'm not sure about that, feels a little disjointed, maybe?

I don't have anything better. Gathering information is a good first step.

Best option in my opinion, we should be more informed before saying anything.

Here.

Technically that was intentional. I wasn't sure at the time if I wanted to really vote for it, I was thinking someone might argue for something else...

That said I haven't come up with anything better.

Also, because this is a pretty hefty vote, I reckon I'll let it go until tomorrow.

Also-also to let people participate who may have been preoccupied with the election.
