no reason to pre-ordain Mr. Crisp as an enemy, he seems the sort to be pretty accepting of our whole thing with being a Marcher and low-born, e just have to avoid banging him if im being honest, dont give him a complex and we're very chill.

That is Mushroom's account which is unreliable. I think it makes sense to assume that he is just, well, an Andal supremacist, and will hence never accept non-Andal laws of succession. Meaning that actually, yes, he will always be our enemy, and in the Kingsguard he has the perfect opportunity to stage a coup, Praetorians style, as he did in canon.

Having Cole would be unpleasant in case he happens to win the duel but yeah, even with him in the Kingsguard we may be able to avoid a lot of the canon nastiness if he doesn't end up with that complex about how broke his Kingsguard vows.
Well ya know, as long as we dont decide to 'sully his cloak'(🤢) he probably wouldnt be too much of an issue. hopefully
I think that even if we never go after him and "sully his cloak" like in canon, Crispin going to have issues with Nyra banging Alicent while he is on watch...

I was going by the show version, which this quest seems to borrow heavily from. Still even if we go strictly by the books both the pro Greens Eustace and the pro Blacks Mushroom state that whatever soured the relations between Rhaenyra and Criston, it happened at 113 AC. Aegon II was born in 107 AC. Cole would have known that Rhaenyra would have been ahead of her brother in the succession for six years by then. It doesn't seem like it'd make sense for their break to happen that late if it was about Andal succession laws.

Honestly, as long as we don't string Cole along, we should be fine.

Ser Criston Cole, even without becoming That Guy in terms of feeling like his masculinity would be wounded if Rhaenyra doesn't owe him a fairy tale romance as his lady and thus becoming a born-again like knight-evangelist when the fantasy is punctured, is just plain not going to be good as a Kingsguard. The Highborn stack too many things in their favor and Cole just isn't suited for the role compared to like just being declared captain in the royal hosts or something. Ser Caron is perfect as a heavy-handed enforcer of the crown leaning on and shaking down recalcitrant lords, Ser Tarly would be great as a mentor of squires and young princes passing down the same schooling as he has received and practiced for years down in the Marches, and Ser Mallister would be perfect for Lord Commander Harrold Westerling to mold into a bodyguard and impart the doctrine of the white cloaks.

But by the gods, Ser Criston would be the funniest option. so I hope he wins :V

One thing to note is that both the books and show tell us that Cole was the one to teach Aemond how to fight with a sword, and that despite his having one eye, Aemond became quite skilled.

So if nothing else on the chance we do end up with Cole, he could do a lot to enhance our training actions.

Thats if mister Cole doesn't throw a fit over a woman learning to fight - a situation I am fairly sure he didn't face in canon.

Well if we take the "Strong" option then a knight that takes issue with a woman fighting would be less likely to take our challenge, and thus might be weeded out from the start. The update even suggests as much:
A fifth option struck you suddenly. Instead of simply choosing one of these knights you could challenge each of these men to one on one fights, making whoever defeated you the fastest your new sworn shield. You didn't think you had much chance of beating any of these knights, and if you did they really had no business protecting you in the first place, but a duel would give you a chance to figure out what kind of men these knights truly were. And perhaps more importantly, it might show you if these men would be more premissive with your pursuits then most. After all, if they're willing to fight you, that surely must mean they're at least willing to consider taking you seriously as warrior. Mayhaps even agreeing to train you.

[j][write-in] Stand a dozen axes up in a line, whoever can shoot an arrow through the loops at the top of their handles will join the Kingsguard.

@Teen Spirit , if [Strong] wins, do we get to rest and hydrate between bouts? It'll take longer, but I don't want to give the last man an undue advantage.

Listen, these vows are for life. We need to give the candidates an idea of the shenanigans they will have to put up with once they swear their vows.

Should be interesting

You know, maybe that Ser Criston isn't that fitting for the Kingsguard?:p
