@Boney : Does Mindholes work on specific identities? Like say if Mathilde dresses up all in red wearing a red mask and mugs someone stealing their money and says "You will always remember the day you were robbed by the Red Hood!". Then mindholes them they will forget the Red Hood and the robbery, but will the also forget the legendary gray wizard that have heard stories about and don't think that they have met?

If you Mindhole someone they forget everything about you, no matter what costume you might be wearing at the time.

Yeah, we know there *are* other memory spells that the college has, since we know about the contingency memories they stick in people's heads, but we've never been offered anything about what they are. I suppose as a Lady Magister Mathilde might be able to ask to learn about them? But it's probably pretty need to know since they don't want people mucking around with memories out in the wild. One more reason to become Grey Matriarch and learn (most) of the college's secrets lol.
Yeah, I imagine detailed memory manipulation falls under the same heading as stuff like dark rituals: unless you can demonstrate a genuine and pressing need to know, you don't need to know.

I wonder how often a black magister has tried to make a run at using mindhole on everyone that knows they exist before they run off to do crimes? I suppose the colleges probably have thorough records of everyone so they can check to see if anyone remembers the existence of a person every once in a while.

Mindhole can be resisted with sufficient willpower. Mathilde gets it for free against unsuspecting civilians or prisoners, but if you try to burn your way through the entire Grey College faculty you're gonna have a bad time.

Hm. Does that work even if they simply know of your main identity from something or someone else? So if Mathilde only met them as Red Hood, and then cast a spell they would forget both about the Red Hood and Lady Magister Mathilde someone else told them about and they don't connect to Red Hood at all?

Yes. It's not using their brain's associations to find all the relevant memories, it's using magic.

Probably easier to keep channeling Ulgu til you pick up the Forgettable Arcane Mark and call it "Good enough".
Frankly, if you're an Ulgu user, you can probably just run very far and keep quiet for a while, and you'll be dropped in favor of something more pressing unless you keep calling attention to yourself. Which, as far as the Colleges are concerned, is probably a decent enough outcome. If you do keep calling attention, you probably get the veteran trackers, and have a bad time of it.
Also, if you get into dhar, the sanity damage of that is going to remove the required sublety and patience eventually.

It turns out that it's quite hard to find items enchanted with Mindhole once you've put them down.

Edit: It's probably a pretty good way of containing evil artefacts that can't be destroyed for some reason. Stick em in a box, enchant the box, wonder what you were up to for the previous month when you're done. For all we (or anyone) knows, there's already a warehouse with a bunch of this stuff somewhere in the Grey College, and nobody's quite sure how full it is.

If you're classified as a Black Magister, then you've done something that warrants it, and you're getting the Magister Vigilant sent after you, who are Wizards dedicated to hunting down Wizards. The Colleges care a lot about reputation, and if you're noteworthy enough to be given that title, they're not going to drop you for something more pressing. They're going to kill you or make you wish you were dead.

For the most part, anyway. Black magisters can and do drop off the grid, but as noted by Regimand they're not forgotten- Greys still get the memory packages related to them until they're confirmed dead.

I do wonder what people think the advantage of blending the Tzar's organs in public is over doing it while he is magically unresponsive in his bed.
Mostly that him dropping dead in front of people of magical means feels more 'evil curse' than someone sneaking in and murdering him, personally. I'd be fine with the variant that immediately sets it off while he's still asleep, but there's absolutely no chance of it winning.

If you get Black Magister, you're in trouble, yes. Though even there an Ulgu wizard has the best chances, I would guess, because they can run away really fast, and leave very little traces. Well, Ulgu and Ghur. And we know that Black Magister do regularly get away, or else having a long list of Black Magister in every wizard makes no sense. If you stay in Tilea or Estalia or the Border Princes, you're probably pretty safe. Hell, even in the empire, if you can restrain yourself (though being a Black Magister, you probably can't, in the long term).

Though that is a bit besides the point, because I didn't say Black Magister in my post, pretty much for the reason you laid out above. First draft, if you can call it that, actually used Black Magister until I reconsidered. So a wizard who went too hard after the money probably is safe enough, because there's too much shit and too few wizards, so long as he doesn't keep making problems

That's why I am asking why people are going for the public organ blend rather than the private, as to me setting the knife off inside of him as he sleeps meets our client's wishes more than any other plan. It confounds me how it only has 4 votes.

A relatively late entry combined with me not doing great at arguing for it combined with not enough people seeing a meaningful difference, I'd guess. I think most of the plans are good, I'd just really prefer not to make this a spectacle which is why I made the variant. It was just for people who agreed with me but still really like the Matrix idea, which was always going to be a minority.

Hm, honestly not too picky about using the Matrix but I do like this version much better than the more public one & feel it at least deserves a real shot in the running.

[X] Plan: Nighttime Heart Attack

... What if we just kidnap the Tzar?

Though I can't think of where to put him that will not backfire on us or isn't basically imprisonment.

Why? And where would we keep him
A few points to note:
  • We have a personal dungeon back at K8P
  • We've proven the dungeon can hold people indefinitely with no one else knowing
  • We've been talking about learning Kislev
Why not use the same method that we used for learning Queekish? It worked so well the first time!
