Could we aquire the body of a Lahmian and make it look like they tried to silently assassinate him, but he woke up the killed the vampire but died in the process?

We're assassinating this man during the time we set aside to spread tributaries. We don't have the spare time to somehow find a Lahmian. That's the sort of thing that requires a dedicated action.

[X] Nighttime Visit

[X] Nighttime Visit with subtle supernatural elements.
-[X] Lay down hints that a vampire was the assassin.

A completely mundane murder at night sounds perfect. If we want to add supernatural elements we can strangle him to death with magic (supernatural since it won't have tool or fingermarks) or arrange for someone to spot a bat flying nearby at the appropriate moment that can be discovered in a later investigation.

We want things to be subtle and making them too obvious seems like a bad idea.

Do we have any reason to suspect Boris of being compromised? Maybe by something that wants to take the lahmians out of the picture? Maybe another vampire bloodline?

And of course, thinking he's a Lahmian plant anyway sends us down the same route Mathilde mentioned vis-a-vis Tzeentch. Some things just have to be taken as is; perfect info is rare to come by.

I'm surprised this guy hasn't already been assassinated if anyone with shadow magic can just sneak in and stab him. Are assassinations just not super common then?

If your bar for "hard to assassinate" is "any old Grey Lord Magister with the Unseen trait can get in", then you may be setting the bar too high.

There's single digit numbers of people who can do what Mathilde does in the entire Old World.

[X] Plan: Spontaneous Heart Attack
- Sneak into the Tzar's room, use mockery of death on him then implant him with a Matrix loaded with Shadow Dagger loaded. Set the matrix to go off the next day at a time the Tzar is likely to be in a public place.

I mean, I have no idea what sort of spell would do it, but I love the idea of the Tsar's own shadow killing him while he is in open court.

Plan Spontaneous Heart Attack is a mistake. It's not subtle, which is Boris's primary concern, and there's a non-trivial chance of having a shadow knife fly out of him when it goes off per Word of Boney, which would be disastrous if it's recognised.

I think all of the locked-room options are ideal, even if we have to lock the room ourselves. It makes sense as to why the Lahmian would miss it if they entered and exited via magic, and is also a clear enough pointer to magic that a motivated investigation from Boris will pick up on it. It's exactly what he asked for.

It's be nice if we converged on a plan for that, I'll approval vote the lot for now.

What's the claimed Lahmian course of action leading to the spontaneous heart attack? At least the one which doesn't obviously trace back to Us, the Person who Perfected This as our Trademark Spell We Named After US.
Conversely, what reason does a Lahmian in direct contact with the Tzar trying to make it look like an accident have to use a shadow knife?
We should probably cut the clothes afterwards with an actual knife-thrust whose momentum, etc. don't match up.

This says more about how Mathilde makes it look easy than anything else. Assassins of this level of skill are rare, let alone ones with Ulgu on their side.
