I tend to improve our relationship with our mother or elder sister. It is really unpleasant when there is discord in the family.

[X] Give the hat to Asva

It's either this or our mom. I could be convinced either way. We need to mend bridges with that side of the family. Maybe give the gift to Asva and spend time with mom? She probably does have useful stuff to teach us, even if relations are currently strained.

[X] Go ice-skating (Begins Encounter: A Walk on the Ice)

I want to go ice skating. That seems fun.

For plan, I'm thinking something like this:

[X] Plan Say Hi To Mom
-[X] (Seasonal) The fields need to be cleared.
-[X] (Personal) Spend time with...
--[X] Mother
-[X] (Exploration) Go on a walk through...
--[X] The Hading!
---[X] Try to get even deeper than before.
-[X] (Training) Hamr (3 successes to rank up)
--[X] 3d6 to Hamr itself
-[X] (Training) Hugr (4 successes to rank up)
--[X] 4d6 to Hugr itself
-[X] (Orthstirr Usage)
--[X] 2d6 Hamr
--[X] 2d6 Hugr
--[X] 1d6 free for tricks

Basically, try and be friendly with mom and ease tensions there, look for the witch and train our base stats.

... Okay, I know it probably isn't the best use of our time, but there is this one particular trick that I really wanna master.

Later. We do that later.

Well, if you were still there and not already scrambling away, that is. Your instincts scream at you, warning you that you do not want this fight.

You take their advice and leave as quick as you can, the knowledge that there are indeed monsters deep in the woods safely stored in your mind.

And also the witch. Who you need to talk to if you want to make any progress on your fylgja.
Having a friend with a raven fylgja would be really usefull. *cough* Aki Runson *cough*

That trick mastered and a trick to quickly follow an attack with a different atack (axe to the leg followed by shield hand punching enemies throat, axe to the head and knee to the groin) learned could be really effective with reasonable axe and glima skills.

[X] Plan Say Hi To Mom

Family is important. Many people will frown upon Halla because of the path she wants to follow, and I hope that by then she will have a good enough relationship with her mother and sister that they will support her, even if they may not like the idea.

Hmm wonder what exactly a 10 relationship with a friend would mean. Like would that open up romance options? Like childhood crush and stuff like that? Then again that would have to be Abjorn if we did that.

I suspect we don't actually need a 10 to begin a romance, we'd just need to either actively go for it, or wait for someone else to do so. Abjorn is definitely interested and maybe getting to 10 would make him confess as much, but we could probably also just decide to pursue him and see how he reacts. I think Halla is a bit focused on other stuff at the moment to do anything like that, though. Maybe in a few years.

Are we sure we want to keep poking about the forest filled with monsters as a small child? Our axe is nice, sure, but I don't think it is fine enough to let us overcome anything that actively goes after us there.

I do agree we should try to at least get better at running or dodging, maybe pick up a defensive trick before going deeper....
And does anyone know what the Norse witches are like? Only one I can think of is from Beowulf....
Maybe we should try to make a gift, after we find where she lives? Kind of rude to bother someone going deep in the forest to live alone and just ask them to teach us without anything in return.

I mean, we're not planning on fighting any and everything we meet. Fleeing is also possible, if needed.

Gaining more defensive skills is definitely a good call, but I don't think searching should need to wait for it. We're probably talking at least 2 or 3 turns if we're aiming for defensive tricks (tricks take a while to learn and we'd likely need to pick up the base skill first...we should admittedly do that with the Shield skill in the near future, I'm less sure about other defensive skills because I'm not 100% sure on the skill list).

And does anyone know what the Norse witches are like? Only one I can think of is from Beowulf....

Witchcraft wasn't generally looked down on particularly in Norse society (well, not for women, anyway), but beyond that not really.

Maybe we should try to make a gift, after we find where she lives? Kind of rude to bother someone going deep in the forest to live alone and just ask them to teach us without anything in return.

This isn't a bad idea. Depending on how the visit with Mom goes, maybe something with her help?

essentially, magic used to help is good magic, if it hinders it is bad magic. There is no shame in killing a practitioner of bad magic, even if they are a woman.

Yes, it is entirely a matter of perspective on whether or not something is good or bad magic. No, the Norse don't really care that this is hypocritical, they're too busy farming and plotting to kill their neighbors

I mean, it doesn't seem hypocritical to me to treat magic like skill in combat and be fine with it when it's on your side and less fine when it's turned against you. That can be hypocritical if you start throwing moral judgments in for people who are just doing the same stuff you do (ie: we raid people, but when they raid us that's evil), which I'd imagine is common, but just treating magic as good or bad based on context seems fine on its own.

Later. We do that later.
No.

I refuse. I've been in this Questing biz for a while, and saying we'll do something later never pays out well. There'll always be something more important, always some other trick we need to pick up or some other fire we need to put out, and before you know it 50 turns will have passed and we haven't taken a single step towards Mastery. It is the Questing equivalent of saying "I'll propose to my girlfriend after I return from the war".

If we aren't going to train Knee-Groin now when nothing is trying to eat us, we aren't going to train it.

If you put the Hugr training dice towards a trick for combining axe based fighting and Knee-Groin Trick based fighting you have my vote.

i support the combination of fight with weapon and without. there is something beautiful in sucker punching those that think they got you, just because they blocked the weapon in your other hand.

On another note though...
Its xianxia land, right?
So, China probably still has the path to master themself.
The Norse are look to be honor-bound what with the emphasis of being fair, both in and out of battle.
And Christianity is being rewarded for their faith/service in God's Plan TM.

For the last one, i do wonder how the schism would go here.... and if whaling yourself to power through charity works.
Also, kinda wondering how Loki faring here.
