Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[X] His grudge is against the world. He is alone, and wears his isolation as a crown. He deems this strength. Every time he is proven wrong, his grudge grows. (+1 Isolation XP)

[X] His grudge is against community itself. He thinks it's contracts and strictures as false and hollow as his own dealings. That he is superior for seeing this, where others do not. (+1 Community XP)

I believe this describes a highly driven person like YR better. He is one who would rather rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.

At his core Renshu is entitlement embodied, he is the big fish in a small pond, but when he jumped into the ocean that was the sect and saw the sharks he blamed the ocean itself. He is convinced he is truly the biggest fish, anyone surpassing him has to be cheating or active sabotage, in the end his grudge is against the society he percieves as crippling him, it's why he fell so easily for promises of recognition. In the end he will resent any system that does not declare him Supreme, he begrudges the community, he craves the world.

I'm voting for this because it just occurred to me that it's the kind of thing that reformers, like the Empress maybe, likely have in their Ways somewhere. Recognizing how people conflict with society is the first step to ordering one, much less improving it.

I'm voting for this because I like the kind of primal naturalistic vibes of the framing. I also think that recognizing that others draw strength and conviction from Isolation effectively for the sake of their Isolation, which they view as proof of their strength and conviction, is a worthwhile meditation for Ling Qi.

I wonder, is Yan Renshu really isolated for its own sake? I doubt that he views being alone as strength unto itself. More so it seems that his Isolation would be a cost he might be willing to pay because he sees social structures as rigged. Even more than that, how has his view been proven wrong? If his strength is that of Isolation, the true virtue of strength in his eyes would be endurance. Losing does not disprove his ideology, because it merely shows the way in which the world is rigged against him. I would think that he is not being proven wrong, merely being forced to live a bad outcome in line with his framework to view reality again and again.

I doubt he cultivates anything like Isolation personally. That's just his relationship to the world when viewed through the lens of Ling Qi's perspective. That there's people who embrace it not just as a truth but as a virtue or vindication.

Also @yrsillar with all the small Domain XP retcons Discord send you, the Concept list below the preliminary vote and the one on the 1st page got out of sync. From what I could tell both are only partially correct. Below I marked the correct/incorrect passages:

FRONTPAGE said:
  • Community IV (0/8): Family is only a knot of strong bonds, it is the small connections between people which build community. There was no line between love and obligation, not if both were true.
  • Isolation IV (2/8): As starvation is privation of the body, isolation is privation of the soul. To be alone is to suffer, yet it is possible to find meaning in hardship. What do the cold streets of that sad city mean?
  • Expression III (1/5): Art, music is the expression of ideas, the sharing of concepts with other people and beings. It can express the truth of your soul, it can express desires, it can express simple observations and so much more. You have only begun to explore the truth of art.
  • Motion III (1/5): Motion is change, the wind of your wings obscures destiny
  • Power III(2/5): Power is absolute, but comes in different forms. What is strength in one context may be weakness in another.
  • Want III (1/5): Want is the soul reaching out, the impetus of connection, the abrogation of Isolation, the seed of Community and Home.
  • Creation II (2/3): Abundance begets creation. Creation denies Isolation.
  • Freedom II (1/3): Choosing to be bound for the sake of others does not dull Freedom's edge
  • Home II (0/3): Home is the people you gather, and call your own, a binding wrought of ones own will.
  • Mystery II (1/3): Hunger is privation of the body, loneliness privation of the heart, Ignorance privation of the mind.
  • Persistence II (1/3): The world is in flux and things last only due to the exertion of will.
  • Truth II (0/3): To call all truths subjective can only bring ruin.
  • Endings I (1/2): All things end in time, it is the journey to ending that has meaning.
  • Causality I (1/2): Action precedes reaction. Time flows forward, ever forward.
  • Courage (0/1)-?
  • Protection (0/1)-?
  • Cycles (0/1)-?
  • Chaos- Assimilated by Motion

If we're discussing issues on the first page, I've mentioned previously that the Vanishing Trait should be 9 (11) instead of 9 (10) because we have two separate Arts that give it +1 each (specifically, Laughing Flight of the Wind Thief and Ephemeral Night's Memory). Inquisitive Eyes should also be 7 (11) rather than 7 (10) due to Arts, Domain, and Items (+1 Harmony of the Dancing Wind, +1 Silent Songseeker's Regard, +1 Domain, +1 Dusk Wind Studs). The first has been an issue for a little while, the second is new as we got a new Domain bonus that just hasn't been added yet.

I don't think it is even a cost he is willing to pay.
I think Yan Renshu is incapable of treating anyone as equal, and sees everyone as either a resource to be used, or enemy to be destroyed, and people kinda figure that out eventually, so he ends up isolated, not out of preference, or as a cost, but just a natural outcome of who he is as a person, and he might not even notice that he is isolated, because to him, that is the natural state of things.

Joining this to just point out to @yrsillar that PLR should be listed as Mastered, and Long Arm of the Law should be (2/3). And Spirit Seeker VI needs to be taken from MoSS when the front page cultivation projects are updated because Spirit Seeker is a social art trait.
