You know, at some point I'd love to see if we can make scaled up and scaled down versions of RoW. Our current version is great, but long-term having 'rush an entire army' and 'need to move a patrol, not a large force' versions would be nice. Obviously a very long term project, but could be nice to do if we ever get a freerer moment.

[X] Attempt a parlay
The Tsarevich can grant you the authority to negotiate with these intruders in the name of Kislev, though that's easier said than done. Attempt to make that happen without endangering yourself too much.

Mathilde. She, is, of course, busy in little elven kingdom discovering secrets of Waystones.
Unless she got sudden idea/heard about a mystery/just got bored and then she can be really fast anywhere in the world and investigating weird things and bringing armies that should have been four days away and too late to change balance of power to the right place, at just the right time.

How many enemies of Order must now plan for Mathilde Weber deciding to rain on their parade just on general principles? Well, if they learn about Mathilde and her tendency to SURPRISE.

I do not think scaled up is in the cards, that would be Cataclysm magic and no one in their right mind would try to cast a cataclysm spell on their whole army over a long period of time, not to mention that there isn't even enough magic for that for more than the span of a single battle usually.

Storms of Magic can last for longer than that. The Altdorf Storm was like a couple days I'm pretty sure, and involved a looot of clashes and escalations. Also, whenever the Everchosen comes up there's usually a Waxing of the power of Chaos that roughly translates to a Storm. Last Everchosen was before the Colleges were a thing, so I'm sure Teclis didn't teach the humans anything that could make any Cataclysms, but I'm pretty sure that he should have been capable of casting them himself.

I had a thought that the praag waystone might be linked to the Fire Spire, because it was the heart of Kislev's mages guild before it was destroyed by chaos, and the wiki entry for it is fascinating.

The TL;DR is that it was founded as a college of magic which invited people of radically different disciplines—Ice Witches, Hags, Pre-Teclis Imperial Wizards ect—and their reckless experimentation caused some of the more traditional Ice Witches to completely shun the city. The traditionalists were proven right when Chaos Sorcerers used it as a lightning rod for their foul magics, destroying the top two floors and unleashing a ton of curses upon the city during the Great War.

To this day, Ice Witches avoid the city, and Hags refuse to enter unless they are compelled. Meanwhile, the ruins of the tower stand empty, tempting adventurers with lost secrets and ancient magics—none of whom have actually returned from their journey into its haunted depths.

So yeah, the leylines are almost certainly pointing towards the Fire Spire, which the mages who once lived there used for their experiments.

But it's been a century and a half since its destruction, so what is all that power being used for?

[X] Bring in Ice Witches
Currently, the only Ice Witch that is likely to be present for the battle is Milica. If you travel to Kislev City, you could bring in additional Ice Witches on Shadowsteeds. Milica says there are at least two and perhaps as many as five Ice Witches in Kislev City that would be able to respond and could meaningfully contribute to a battle.

This gives us more opportunity to interact with Ice Witches which hopefully might give us more or a broader opportunity to try and wrangle one or two of them into the project.

Boris would do anything to push back the Za, and we can't promise that. But we can promise that we are looking into something that might help do that, that we have help from Thorek and the Grey Lords - and after this update, I think he'd believe Mathilde if she told him that she'd make a point of making sure Kislev benefits from the project, regardless of their contribution. But more perspectives increases chances of something useful being developed. Plz gib Ice Witches.

And I think vaguely doubling our mage-power is more useful than a second army. And I find the idea of the Ice Witches on shadowsteed mildly more interesting to read about than bringing a second army.

I'd like to do a whole book on magical logistics, including non-grey spells.

I don't bring this up often, because I was pretty sure that Boney would never use her. She and her fellow Gods of Law didn't seem to me like something he would use. But maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe Boney really is bringing Arianka back from the 1st Edition graveyard.

"And in Praag's darkest hour the goddess Arianka shall rise from the dead, and she shall smite the hordes of Chaos and drive them from this land for ever... There shall come a champion - a man of Chaos, yet not of Chaos. Dark his deeds, but darker his doom! And he shall seek out the Crystal Keys and wrest them from the clutch of evil... [...] ...And the Doomed One shall ride out from Praag, across the gushing Lynsk and thence into Norsca. And there, the forces of Chaos will close around him..."—Praag's Book of Ancients

To power the Land. They moved there for a reason, Ancient Widow and Ice magic is far stronger in Kislev for reason. They just magically inundated and aligned the entire land of Kislev for their own advantage.

But that doesn't make sense because there are no Ice Witches or Hag Witches in Praag. If it was doing something that important, why are there no mages there to maintain it, or alternatively why has it not been moved to Kislev city? You don't leave something like that unattended in a cursed city for 150+ years.

No, I'm convinced the Mages of the Fire Spire were harnessing it's power in some way, and one of the experiments is still being powered by it.

I'm pretty sure Boney once said something to the effect that the Gods of Law wouldn't be a thing, but he might use the Gods themselves if he had a good idea for them.

Like, that there might be a God of Vengeance called Solkan out there, but he doesn't have any kind of larger connection to Arianka or such.

That's my understanding. Can't really look for a quote right now, I'm on my phone.

Honestly, Arianka is the only one that I can see good plot points being extracted from it. I mean, a good story can be extracted from Solkan if you're willing to honestly explore and break down the racism aspect of the God and what makes him so heavily unpleasant. Not exactly the lightest topic to be tackling.

Alluminas is just a failed concept. He was literally ignored by the writers because it was too hard to make something interesting out of him. He's explicitly unpopular in universe.
