Catching up on a long backlog...

Am I accurate in surmising that the Renxiang/Liming situation arose because Shenhua remade Renxiang and stuffed leftover pieces into Liming?

not only parts of CRX herself, but probably some parts of her Mother aswell.

She felt fingers like merciless razor edged shears plunge into her soul, severing some threads to lie on the floor and forth other strings of black. She felt threads of herself wound round a spindle, prepared to be woven into a half finished gown of gold and white.

She saw the Tyrant pluck gleaming threads of diamond and adamant from her own self, and pass them through the eye of the embroidering needle.

Slowly, she turned her head to look over her shoulder to see Diao Linqin looking down at her with pursed lips, and an expression of vexation. "It is truly irritating when you see some truth in a jest."

Ling Qi remained silent, recalling last year, when the DUchess had compared her to the Prime Minister and joked of her daughters taste.

"Only a shred of it," Diao Linqin said imperiously. "That girl does not love in that way, and you, though you can, are broken by fear. Leaving aside your tastes."

Ha. When I first read this, I thought she was saying Ling Qi was bi but didn't know about it because she was too afraid of romance. (And that she had terrible taste in women.)

...huh. The empire is probably better about ace and aro people than one might expect, since cutting out sexuality or the capacity for romantic interest in a person seems like the kind of thing that would come up for a lot of cultivators eventually.

Empire probably cares little about anyones sexuality, as long as they keep popping up heirs to continue family/clan business.

Not necessarily. It depends where it falls on a person's Way. I'm not saying they're not better about it, I'm just saying idk if its that common.

The space invalidates your vote.
I have a hard time accepting this sort of perspective when it's explicitly called out that she's apathetic regarding the existence of the ones she's shielding from Shenhua's light. Apathy is sort of the opposite of drive.
If I recall correctly, imperial clans tend to have the clan heads who run the day to day and the ancestors who sit above them as matriarch/patriarch focus more on cultivation than the closer to mortal bustle of daily life. A detachment from the squabbling of her descendants would seem pretty fitting of a matriarch in that sense but she remains willing and able to represent them despite that. Seems more duty than love that drives her to protect the Diao but that's likely common in higher cultivation where loss of attachments seems the price to pay to rise.

Wife is obvious choice but despite the yandere vibes I don't want to reduce her to her relationship with her more powerful partner. She offered interesting insight into herself and clan here and I want to acknowledge her as a power in her own right.
