Guys do you really think "Faith" is "Truth, but with divine backing"? All Ranald can do is approve, He CAN'T help, doing so would make it Him declaring war against the Gods.

You want to do this at all, choose Truth.
No, we don't think that. And we don't still argue that either. A few of us, me included, first thought that at the start. But that got pretty swiftly cleared up by Boney, and we no longer think that or seriously argue that.

Though we still bring up the "Boney High Five" quote at times where and when relevant, though mostly as a hypothetical or potential, or to sometimes to argue with the "This is totally plausible deniability isn't it?" guess. (Because the plausible deniability guess is also just that; a guess. A reasonable sounding one, but also still uncertain and unkown.)

Faith is faith. It's not research, but it's something else instead. What exactly it gives or leads to, I'm not sure. I thought perhaps sacrificing? But Boney likened it to giving water to a fish... Perhaps being given a boon of some sort? Perhaps just being given more trust by Ranald?

Perhaps it's just a reaffirmation of one's own beliefs and attitudes about religion and the gods. I'm not sure. I'm not sure if this is a mystery box or a test or what.

Or perhaps it leads to nothing, as I imagine Ranald would be kind enough to not tell us if we blew a chance at study by shooting our mouth.

Yeah, but a few people seem to still believe that judging by the reasoning in the votes, wasn't talking to you specifically but i know many people don't like it when they are mass summoned for a comment.

I'm getting a little annoyed with the arguments that are presenting the "faith" option as the "friendship" option. Last time I checked, I didn't submit to my friend's Authority or allow them to Judge me.

Faith isn't being Ranald's friend, it's reinforcing our relationship as one of master and servant. And whilst some people may be interested in that (and it is a valid approach) every cell in my body is screaming to reject it.

"Truth" might be the "no gods no masters" route, but "faith" is the route of "I have a Master, and His Name is Ranald".

And I don't want that.

Ranald has already told Mathilde to cut it the fuck out once before when she was starting to tread on divinity with her research.
Yeah, but that was because Mathilde was at risk of looking at Ranald himself directly. Which, given how rocked to the core Max was from glimpsing the Ancestor Gods through Tale of Metal, would have likely caused severe harm to her.

It's not insane to call out to the universe for a sign to stop what you're doing if the universe has demonstrably done that before. In the absence of such a sign, we can move ahead.

"There is no trust among thieves, but there is among Ranaldites."

I'm not doing this behind Ranald's back, period.

Even if "Faith" literally gets Mathilde nothing but a slap on the wrist, I still find that preferable to embarking on a massive breach of trust against him.

I rather not do that either. If Ranald is intentionally keeping his eye away from us, what's the point of defeating that and bringing his eye on us?
If he's keeping his eye away from us, it's to give himself plausible deniability. Whihc is only useful if we actually pursue the subject. If we don't it has no use, therefor his behaviour in that regard can be ignored.

[x] Faith
I mostly don't want to continue this line of questioning, because I don't think the potential rewards are in parity with the risk. We have plenty of research trees that we can spend all our time on that don't risk bringing the gods down on us.

[X] Faith
[X] Prudence

I've made many arguments. So have others. But in the end, I'm not willing to go behind our old friends back.
