On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

I'm not sure arguing a T5 for us is a bad idea when Barak Azamar was a major fulcrum point for the entirety of Karak Dum.

And let us kill a MAJOR Favored of a God.

We tend to go out on every major campaign, as it's great rep and good name for us, and also a chance to see what we can do in person.

Adding to this, you could apply this same concern to the Greedy One's Heart and that turned out to be a smashing success. I don't recall being a part of that discussion but I wouldn't be surprised if that arguement did occur. Given that soulcake has gone out of their way to tell us that stuff isn't a monkey's paw (such as letting the King of the Skies eat Kholek's heart), I think this is just more of the same. Reagents won't screw you over unless you goof and use the wrong one.

There is a huge difference: we had researched the Greedy One's Heart (well, research was finished on it mostly as a side benefit). The issue is that we actually haven't researched Kohlek's Brain and thus don't know what it could ideally be used for. In addition, in-story it has been shown through the actions of Snorri's research (and his rune testing) and the statements of other Runelords that using unknown, untested reagents on runes is just not done.

Even the QM stated that Snorri would use Kholek's Brain because we had him do enough radical actions, but that he wouldn't necessarily be happy about it.

My concern isn't that it is a "trap option" but that we are doing something that the story has shown or told us to be dangerous. It is not really a trap if there is a sign in front of a door that says "Danger! Do Not Enter!" and then the person enters.

Not saying that it is a stupid idea as BungieOni has created a great concept and he has always conducted himself reasonably. Just I wanted to know why he thought THIS was the risk to take on this item. And, while I understand where he is coming from, I still disagree.

Also, you say that reagants won't screw you over unless you goof and use the wrong one. First, I am not sure if that is necessarily true all the time, but also: how do you know this isn't the wrong one? We can make educated, logical guesses. But, we don't know.

And, for a potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunity using a once-in-a-lifetime reagant...I would want to know.

I found this:

Combo, Valaya's Indignance: [Master Rune of Spellspite, Rune of Lightfright, Rune of Lightspite] Spells cast against the user are broken down and the caster is burned and they forget how to cast the spell for a time. The magical energy is stored by the staff, and at the user's command, the energy can be fired back out as bolts of blinding, searing light, or be used to fuel terrible visions that can instill terror. [LOCKED, MASTER RUNE OF SPELLSPITE UNKNOWN]

Why is that we don't know the master rune of spellspite?

It is awesome!

I think we're talking about different things. I agree that using untested materials is a risk in the sense that it might not be the best use of the reagent. BungieOni and I were specifically talking about how there's no danger of, "oh, you used the part of a suuuuper evil dude as a reagent, whoops guess that item you made is cursed now."

Why is that we don't know the master rune of spellspite?

It is awesome!
We learned of the Master Rune of Spellspite through Fjolla, who learned it from Lady Gemma Diamond Eyes of Karak Brynduraz, known in modern Warhammer as Mount Gunbad. Fjolla swore an oath not to teach it to anyone else until she was older than six hundred.

"It is called the Master Rune of Spellspite," she explains before hastily adding on, "I didn't make it. It was taught to me by Lady Gemma."

Not her own Master Rune, thank the Ancestors. You would have been torn between thumping her fool head and congratulating her in good measure if that were the case. Still, it is an achievement in and of itself. Lady Diamond Eyes was a Dwarf almost five times Fjolla's age, and Runelord of Karak Brynduraz besides. Not as storied as many legends, but one didn't get to live over a millennium and a half without accumulating a few deeds of renown.

Notoriously picky, and notoriously difficult to please from what you've heard.

Well done, you think, staring at Fjolla in a newer light.

"I take it there's an oath of secrecy?"

She blinks in confusion before realizing what you were saying and nods.

"Not until my seventh century am I allowed to share the secrets of this Rune, she would accept no less. Finding me worthy and finding my judgement worthy are two separate things it seems," she mumbles.

Hmm. I wonder if it might be worthwhile to create a vote option for meeting up with fellow Runelords in order to do rune trades. There are a bunch of master runes (and regular runes) that I'd love for us to get our hands on. Off the top of my head, MSpellspite, MEagle Eye, and Quick Wits. I'm sure others have their own lists of stuff they'd like to get. Should be worth an action or two every once in a while.

BungieOni and I were specifically talking about how there's no danger of, "oh, you used the part of a suuuuper evil dude as a reagent, whoops guess that item you made is cursed now."

I understand. That was one of my concerns, though BungieOni has lowered my concerns significantly by pointing out the description. I still have concerns that the Rune isn't going to work, explode, or work in a completely unexpected manner. But, less so it being Evil (though that isn't completely gone).

I sincerely hope that my worries are for naught and we create a kickass Cloak with an amazing combo that helps both in the field and in crafting. But, I did want to voice my concerns and suggest a less risky alternative (though the votes are pretty overwhelming in going all in the cloak).

So fucking what? It's proof that the thread isn't completely altruistic, which is what I replied to your post to counter.

Dwarfs do not think this way. They are not human. I have no desire to deal with the headache that gifting a Tier 5 item to Kraka Drakk would cause. You could probably count on two hands the amount of Dwarfs in the Karaz Ankor who would see a problem with a Runesmith keeping the best stuff for themselves.

If I remember correctly, until we crafted Barak Azamar, Trollslayer was our greatest creation, and that was created for the Thane of Clan Ironarm. Think really hard about how much we have crafted for the Hold, and for ourselves. I can only really think of three difficult items that we created for ourselves, and the first of those is probably being used by our Hearthguard fairly often.

Edit: I forgot about the Adamant smelter. It's either three, four, or five difficult requests we have made for ourselves. I think the first smelter was created while we researched, so it shouldn't count. The second smelter benefitted the Brotherhood of Dron.
Seeing as I am sick and tired of this kind of thing I'm going to use this example. If the players were playing a ruler and we had to decide who got the very best personal gear between a researcher who was rarely ever going to use it or the best soldier around who would be constantly using it I'm 99.999 percent sure that everyone would have voted to give to the guy that would be constantly using it. Because you miss the thing about making epic gear that appeals to many of us, that is that it's actually out there used by the greatest heroes outright wrecking shit and making it's own legends with us being proud for having made it.

Otherwise having our best stuff lying around the bad majority of the time doing nothing is pretty wasteful. Heck, I remember playing a crafting quest where players were outright happy to make epic level gear not to keep for ourselves but to give to others. Especially since the PC for said quest wouldn't be anywhere near as capable as the top tier warrirors. Basically the point is that we don't actually need top level gear and it seems like there would be a more practical argument for giving it out to people who would get more use out of it.

On top of that the thing I can't comprehend is why people get so upset that not everyone is interested in getting absolute top level gear for ourselves considering that we can still make top gear for ourselves. Seriously, our second best personal gear would still be pretty fucking amazing and something the absolute best heroes would love to have as anyone who has played warriors in Warhammer quests would tell you.

The point is that others can use our epic gear just fine. Just look at the fight with our King vs Kholek and how much of our gear was shown off. On top of that I keep saying this, top level gear without T5s are still goddamn amazing for our own gear.

For a moment there, I really thought we would finally make the Grimnir Gronti. The GM all but "oops, look at that, a one-in-a-thousand-years chance to make some super special item. If only you had this super special project lying around".

And then I saw the tally. God fucking dammit. Every time.

It seems like most people don't want to make a Gronti right now, for any number of reasons.

I am the one that keeps bringing the Gronti up. Its not one in a thousand years either, the storm of magic is gonna be more often than that. We need to stockpile cool mats to make it first.

In 44 turns it came up all of once. "Probably not going to see another against for a long, long time. If ever."

So, another fourty turns of waiting then.

But I'm sure the conditions won't be ready then either. The thread is like Kraggi and his hammer.

I will be surprised if in a turn or two we actually do something wildly radical like plan it out and, what, buy a T4 troll heart.

@BungieONI In the interest of avoiding a repeat of gronti ingredient woopsie can you change your order this turn to the t4 troll heart or carnosaur just to get it out of the way? Or use favor to add an extra order for it?

Apply optional Rune Ingredients here. A deep black-grey length of supple and iron tough Dragon Ogre Shaggoth hide, treated to get rid of that abominable static, and dyed a deep and familiar red like a sunset forms the basis for this long hooded cloak. The hide descends from three larger plates of Adamant, designed to fit to the back of a Dwarfen gorget and shoulder pauldrons so keenly their edges seem to blend together into a beautiful whole, and about its edges are donated Brana feathers that compliment the colors. Upon the plates are carved the stormy sky of the King of the Sky's domain and nestled within those glowering anvil clouds are three great Runes, with the Master Rune of Grungni taking pride of place on the middle plate. Atop the hide of the cloak and woven into it are Adamant scales the size of a thumb with various gems of Kraka Drakk as highlights, a testament to the workman's craftsmanship and sheer strength. Upon these scales are carved images of the people of Kraka Drakk, and as the cloak moves they seem to move as well as they go about their lives, and a trick of keen carving makes the cloak shimmer like it is sparking with lightning that highlights these dwarfs. 1 action pt 1, 3 Actions pt 2, Use Barak Azamar, Zharrgal, and the Anvil of the Earth.

Unlike most, you are one of the honored few to have met Him in person, to have spoken with Him.
