Unless we ask for something that doesn't really cost them anything, like information.
Knowing what state their Runesmiths are in would be valuable knowledge to that end.

If they haven't degraded too much, we might be able to get something there. If they have, then that'd be good to know. Knowing the state of the hold in general will be helpful.

Even a transcendent boon isn't getting us runesmith secrets.

Or, well, it might, but it'd cause a lot of damage in the process and I'm not down for that.

(This maybe isn't what you're suggesting, just putting it out there.)

Actual runesmithing certainly not, but the total sum of runesmithing-related secrets is a bit wider than that- Arcane Khazalid for one thing (assuming it does exist).

But in general, asking an intact Runesmith guild to do something for us might be easier than something that costs considerable more in resources.

you know, I've half forgotten this, but

You pay a brief visit to Lady Magister Stanisława Skłodowicz of the Gold Order, the High Wizard of Middenheim, both out of politeness and to make your visit official and visible. She feigns interest in your adventures among the Dwarves, and you feign interest in her latest concoctions, decoctions and recoctions in her search for the Universal Solvent. Etiquette properly assuaged, you bid her farewell and climb the final stretch to the very peak.
I suspect that Middenheim is going to want her involved, or at lest overseeing parts of the waystones project, as their concession for helping if nothing else.

hopefully, hers and mathy's relationship will stay at the 'policy pretending that you're not boring me so you have to pretend I'm not boring you' level, and not get into power politics.

First off, @Humbaba , really liked your omake! There was some unexpected switches between second and third person perspective (she vs you) early on before you settled into 'you', but the letters were note-perfect and I liked the way you made the journey feel torturously long.

I mostly want what everyone wants, but I do want to take the opportunity to set the terms of our relationship with Vlag with them before they start go telling everyone about us.

'Does not know how to handle small children' can totally be it, as can 'does not like small children'.

Eike is a lot older than Mandred and is also currently going through something that Mathilde knows a lot about. Having the common ground of 'has magic, going to be a Grey' is plenty for the basis of a bond, and its common ground that (... probably) doesn't exist with Mandred.

Agreed, but it might also be that she was the youngest. Or that lessons about small children and child rearing in general are way, way too close to memories of her own mom, and that hurts to surface.

Beige Tower:
Basic Hysh Battery

Ohhhh!

@BoneyM , can I propose?

Hysh resonates a bit with white marble we know, and I bet with glass- a mini tower designed mostly as a glass and marble atrium would hold Hysh and be mostly clear.

Mathilde would refer to it, in an enormously petty move, as the 'Invisible Tower' and pretend to anyone who asked that it didn't actually exist.

Isn't the White College who has the best healers? There are very few jade spells who can heal, and they're not that good for it.

Which is still SO WEIRD to me. I mean, the conceptual restoration of the undamaged form of oneself as a simple, low power basis for healing rather than accelerated regrowth?

Odd.

Hmm. Ivory Tower? Proabably better for magically natural tower but for either tower it would work.

Alabaster Tower would be another option, tale your pick.

What tower? ;)

Obviously Kvinn-Wyr is not a blank slate, but hopefully the existing tunnels can be handwaved to accommodate our glorious architectural vision a design like this.

We know, from when I went through descriptions to try and stay canon for Soizic, that there are tunnels and chambers through all levels- up top is the former temple of Valya which presumable got encrusted in it's upper levels with the warpstone that cracked off with the restoration of the waystone henge. In the middle, roughly, is a long main hallway running from near the east gate (?) to Mhourne, I think, and denser in chambers towards the gate to support defenses. Lower levels were cisterns and reservoirs.

I think I'm the update Mathilde was walking the middle levels, but I secretly hope that we can repurpose and restore the temple of Valya to serve as the main reading room.

It seems like books fit better under home and hearth than mining, fighting, smelting, the dead, runes smithing, etc. So I think if there is such a thing as deconsecration, we should do it, but after all the warpstone that was there for so long I hope the goddess won't feel possessive enough to deny it.

I think an old temple to Valya could be pretty close to your floorplan?

2. while the organization information post has updated to include the EIC's 'Minor presence in Barak Varr and Ulrikadrin.', the 'Information being collected and supplied to Mathilde:' section doesn't list the new Karnos cult informants

The Hochlander investigated it thoroughly enough to find that it's gone pretty much unchanged for sixty years. There's nothing more to collect and supply.

*were, for the plural of "opportunities." Unless this is deliberate vernacular writing for the dialogue or something, of course. That didn't seem to match the rest of his speech patterns, though.

Or was, for the singular of 'lot'. As a rule of thumb I leave in mistakes that take more than a minute to research whether they really are mistakes to keep dialogue more natural - I'd be pretty likely to use 'was a lot of Xs' IRL.

makes me wonder if we should look into bringing in some dwarves at this point. I might be mixing up my lore, but I thought dwarves put a fair bit of investment into growing mushrooms as a food source that's viable underground? Of course, I also think I remember that at least in Boney-canon they have runes that function as an equivalent to natural sunlight for purposes of plant growth, so maybe not.

Dwarven mycology is a matter of specific species in very controlled conditions with absolutely no Winds present. Greenskin-sourced fungi in Wind-rich environments would be out of their bailiwick.

Counterpoint: an invisible tower is actually kicking rad, defeating the purpose.
