Might be rubbing salt in the wound but losing one of the wagons means we won't be getting a kickflip pistol now.
Why not? Our personal contributions are undiminished. Or were you meaning to get Gotrek to make one personally?

I don't think the strategic calculus is changed enough to change our plans. In the worst case, we can forage on the way back - Deathwing not being at hand is less of a problem when we're halfway between Dum and Kislev, than it looks right now.

So I am not nearly as invested as everyone else seems to be in Gotrek but wow quite a few people are talking about necromancy here and that seems way out of character. If Mathilda didn't use necrmancy at her lowest moment after the Count died why would she do that here and now when it would do nothing but have terrible repercussions for her. Necromancy also doesn't even seem like it has any real positive upsides since no one would be onboard with raising the dead and I can hardly imagine how pissed off the dawi would be at it.

On the topic of whether to press forward or not... Well we are already pretty close to the end goal here i am not sure how bad other events could be but it seema like we would be giving up after traveling 80% of the way to the hold

Ahhh, what a mess.

Well, like everyone says, they're only a week away,. Wear and tear on the machines shouldn't be too bad now that they're moving out into the plains for the final stretch.

They can still buy food from the nomads, and if that goes bad, then between the Knights and the Dragons they can probably raid enough livestock that no one needs to eat the huskies.

I mean, if it comes to it, I would eat the chicken-cats first.

they eat more...

I really think we should turn back. We have suddenly become very brittle. All an enemy needs to do is damage our rides, and they are gone, along with our maximum food supply. We have no knowledge of what's in Karak Dum except probably bad stuff. It's no longer wise to risk going to Karag Dum, as the risks have shot up.

And it's not like this will have been a failed adventure, either. We saved Karak Vlag.

There is a very small faction, led mostly by Omega_Hugger, that constantly memes about necromancy. As far as i saw, they are not really serious, and mostly meme it because they know it can't succeed.

She didn't find it. Unknown whether it's one of the unrecognizable bodies or if it fell elsewhere.
Well if there's one thing we know about Gotrek the Slayer, its that he has an incredible ability to survive anything (much to his despair). Like, he's still knocking about after the literal apocalypse. Gotrrk the Engineer isn't an incredible warrior with a divine axe yet, but I'm going to hold out hope til we've seen the body.

Well, sometimes the dice just don't go our way. A bit disappointed in Ranald, but what can you do.

Whether by trade or raid, we should be good for food whilst travelling the steppes of the Dolgan to Dum. Thus, barring further catastrophe (always a possibility, but not one we can avoid except by not going on the expedition at all) we should be ok for food getting to Dum and getting back to the descent. We dont have enough food for the skull land crossing either way, so we will need to try and get extra supplies mid wya through that journey. Two sources are the chaos dwarf port again, which as others have mentioned is more likely to have food if we give more time for them to restock, or possibly a supply caravan meeting us half way if we can get a message out to Kislev with Matilhde. Our return journey is going to be hard are rely on luck, but that's true either way, and the odds are better if we are doing it later on.

All this leads to carrying on being the better option, imo. Are there risks? Of course, but none that we weren't already going to have to deal with as part of the expedition.

This Expedition had three total survivors in canon. Everyone knew what they were getting into.
With this in mind, I'm inclined to carry on. If everybody involved knew there was a major chance of death when signing up, I don't think an increase in risk is a good enough reason to turn back. Even with a loss as painful as this is (on multiple levels), we're able to carry on and still theoretically have a good chance of success barring further major catastrophe. So I think that's what we need to do.

If you mean Ogre Kingdoms, wrong mountain range. If you mean something else, I don't know what you mean.
the top of the Orre Kingdoms get hit ( and the tribes that live there) if we keep following the high road.

I'm just pointing out that if food storage is a problem, continuing on the path to Cathy in the huntable area might be an idea. at least until we get to a campsite. (if traders still take this route then there must be a tribe that trades instead of eating them (most of the time) on the road.

now, I'm not saying this is a good idea, just that it is an option if the desert is too long without some pack animals to take some of the way.

80% of the trip there, 40% of the whole journey.
I'd quite like to make it back home again, that's my end goal.

If the Dolgan are both willing and able to come through for us, both ways, and we spend a food-neutral time at Dum, we could have the same broad food supply situation at this point on the way back- two weeks, with three to travel.
We'd also have more wear on the wagons, no chief engineer, and seven attempts to get past the rockslide rather than three. The risks have gone up significantly.

My strong inclination is to-

Omega is completely serious, but uses a humorous presentation to make the arguments for necromancy endearing to what would otherwise be a hostile audience.

The northernmost Ogre Kingdoms are in the mountains bordering the Hobgoblin Khanates, which would be several weeks to the east.

IMO it would be artificial. Sometimes accidents don't foreshadow, they just happen. It was sudden in-universe, so it makes sense for it to be sudden in the text.

I mean, fair? I'm not sure how else I could see this working though, from a narrative perspective. Part of it might be I have no idea who Gotrek was outside this quest, so to me he's just 'a dwarf, engineer variety'. I'm just not feeling any particular emotional loss at the update, and despite losing the one steam wagon this vote decision doesn't feel worrying.

Sorry I don't have more helpful feedback, I just, yeah. Something's not clicking.

It should be noted that food wise Mathilde is kinda... not at risk. She can ride fast enough to literally make it back to civilization in a day.

What matters is the state of everyone else, who can't pull that sort of thing off.

They probably planned to lose at least one tank by this point in the expedition. This is much worse than they would have planned for though. Losing the big supply tank, the head engineer, and most of the largest crew is extremely bad.
