Most Dragon Ogres are asleep the broad majority of the time. If this one is asleep at the moment... probably comes down to dice.

Thats good to know. So close enough to serve as a second string generally.
That would normally be fine, except that this area is explicitly an area where the convoy gets bogged down. The odds of the Dragon Ogre personally coming to check on the latest caravan at the edge of their territory is, unlikely, to say the least.
And if it does, the outriders we already have are not going to miss it.
No idea, IC or OOC.
Technically speaking, I'm pretty sure OOC is that he's been sleeping under a mountain for something on the order of a thousand years at least. No idea, IC or OOC.
We have no indication what its sleep cycle is like. And the fact that a Lord of Change has been messing with us obliquely is the sort of thing that has my paranoia at high alert. Dragon Ogres are Chaos minions after all.
You're much more sanguine than I am.Technically speaking, I'm pretty sure OOC is that he's been sleeping under a mountain for something on the order of a thousand years at least.
Would the Knights of Taal's Fury just attack any Kurgans they see, or would they avoid picking fights, though? We sadly don't even know enough about them to know if they'd consider Kurgans kill-on-sight or not, as we haven't spoken to them. ><I'm going to trust the Knights of Taal's Fury to handle the Kurgan. Demigryphs are faster than steppe horses, and our steam wagons have nothing to fear from horse archers. So I don't think scouting these guys is important at all.
Become involved with:
[ ] Ranging far ahead of the convoy
- With the Knights of Taal's Fury
They're ranging far ahead of the convoy, so if they run into an Iron Wolves in the expedition's path, do they attack them, do they retreat and tell the expedition to detour a bit, or what.

IIRC, we literally saw a Dragon Ogre on our way to K8P during the reconquest.
It hunted down a bunch of Orks, killed them and took them back to the top of the mountain for food.
I would make zero assumptions about the wakefulness of this particular Dragon Ogre.
Especially not this close to the Wastes.
No, I mean, this is a canon guy. He was sleeping under a mountain for centuries before a big storm woke him up and he went ranging. The Iron Wolves left totems outside the mountain to remember him by.
To be fair, Esben and Seija killed a Dragon Ogre between them back when they were Journeymen. One argument for scouting the Iron Wolves is that Mathilde is the only scouting unit that can a) remain unseen b) range far ahead of the convoy and c) infiltrate any camps the nomads have, possibly giving us info on their internal politics (and maybe their neighbours?), maybe stab a few leader types (probably not the dragon ogre, I strongly suggest we don't try to assassinate that) and potentially raid the treasury for loot rolls (because we clearly need more money). A bit like what we were planning with the Combes, except the Chaos Dwarfs got there first.
I addressed this a bit in a different post:Would the Knights of Taal's Fury just attack any Kurgans they see, or would they avoid picking fights, though? We sadly don't even know enough about them to know if they'd consider Kurgans kill-on-sight or not, as we haven't spoken to them. ><

There's... probably some amount of difference between "range ahead, but on the expected path of the convoy" versus "go and search out through the Iron Wolves' territory." Though there's some overlap too.
Not sure what to do myself...
There's no guarantees, but my impression is that Joerg won't pick a fight he doesn't have to take, and because of the natural advantages of his knights, it's hard to force them into a fight on horse-archer terms.I'd be a little more worried about incidents if our knights were reversed: Ruprecht hungers for glory and the wolves are slower than steppe horses, so I can easily imagine that attitude getting transmitted to the men and the Winter Wolves being confrontational in a situation that isn't to their advantage. But Joerg, the leader of the Knights of Taal's Fury who are providing our perimeter scouting, has come off as more cautious and practical, and demigryphs are faster than steppe horses, so they are less at risk of being skirmished to death by raiding parties.
I strongly agree. I'd be much less sanguine about "whatever, they won't start shit if we don't start shit" if it weren't for the dragon snoozing on Metal Bawks #6.Just no need to borrow trouble when we have a dragon along; if it wants to start something, let Asarnil and his star dragon handle it.
Those were the ones weakened by Aqshy-lightning though. And I think they had demigryphs? To be fair, Esben and Seija killed a Dragon Ogre between them back when they were Journeymen.
Not Kholek. Just some Dragon Ogre from a novel- Ursun's Teeth.

Its possible.

I just want early warning of any shenanigans so we can let Asarnil do the killing.
We have too little margin of error for my comfort.
One of the questions I wanted to ask BoneyM after the very end of the expedition (and the reveal of its most obvious consequences) is what each Magister contributed outside of battles. Also worth noting:
Among our retinue of K8P wizards is Johan of the Gold. Johan has Diplomacy 20, Intrigue 19.
Its not like we dont have a second string to our precautions here.

I think a Matron. What's a female Longbeard called? It's been eating at me for some time...
I used Longplait in my omake. In general, I just replace "beard" with "plait" for female Dwarf age categories. What's a female Longbeard called? It's been eating at me for some time...
I was going to say "longbraid", which is much the same.I used Longplait in my omake. In general, I just replace "beard" with "plait" for female Dwarf age categories.
