I'm starting to form the impression, whether right or wrong, that Alyn is somewhat naive and far from being a social-specced operator.

Then you got the ones above and below believing the rumor still, unless the Lord is of a Great House and has a web of alliances and people have some inclination to side with him out of principle (and believe they could weather the loss of face for marrying a son to his daughter).

The way it works is, if you mess up in a way that makes people want to believe there's a scandal, unless you bribe and threaten the rumors into submission, or do something that makes everyone forget them, it ain't happening. And in this case the girl would have to be a big part in that proof of her own innocence, not just the man trying to clear her name.
Yeah, except none of that matters. War is coming, and by the end of it people will be happy to just marry whoever's left in a valid position. So all they have to do is stall the girl's marriage until after the war. Or arrange a military alliance marriage, in which the groom will not give a shit so long as the father of the bride can promise levies.

He doesn't need all of them. He can target just the ones in the general social rung as the girl's family, since they're the ones who will care for his purposes. Whole households can be done in one go. And once he has enough to start a counter rumor running through the mill, he can step back and wait. The waters will be muddled, something more interesting will come up and this whole thing will be forgotten.

I mean, he does realize an invasion of Westeros is on the pipeline right?

That might work, but then again it might not depending on how far the rumor has been carried and how likely people are to stay convinced when there is a juicy scandal to talk about, but if it does not work Alyn is probably fine anyway because as @Crake said Westerosi attitudes, the girl on the other hand is ruined. So would he have considered all this in the snap moment when whatever happened happened or would he have defaulted to the social reaction that is expected of an honorable person in that situation in the society he was raised in, which is marry?

Have her be blessed by the Chosen of the Maiden or something.

He should have the necessary clout to do something and focus on important shit.
Oh, yeah, working together with a bunch of other PCs?

Easy-peasy, if he can get them to help. Not all are as accommodating as Danelle I'd expect, for one reason or another.

Doing it solo? Not everyone has these ideas to begin with. Omni-competence isn't actually a PC trait, just like bravery isn't necessary to become a hero.

Okay. It looks like we are going to be the ones to save this guy from an unwanted marriage then, because this should be simpler for us than for him.

I mean, they are a group of specialized chosen blessed by a pantheon of specialized deities. We are aware that the pantheon they've been blessed by are bunch of muppets, but they should act assuming competence from their patrons.

When you know you're a giant bullseye to all sort of enemies and your bride-to-be has no way to defend herself, and is therefore going to die horribly if left alone even for a while, marrying her is not the honorable thing to do.

[X] Attempt to learn whether or not Benedar Belmore is knowingly manipulating Alyn Surehammer into marrying his daughter on spurious claims, whether Clara is complicit, and if any others are involved in the plot.

[X] Before moving on to the Chosen of Smith, attempt to find more about his mysterious "benefactor".
-[X] Move to the divined "dead drop" spots, and apply Stone Tell, Speak with Plants, Retrocognition, in an attempt to learn more of the Mindblanked person -what spells it used (if any), the appearance it took, any specifics and tells the spells can give.
-[X] Make sure not to visit the latest "drop spots" from the start, they may be watched in one way or another, it would be better not to alert the Mindblanked being of us looking into it.

@everyone, any additions to the spells for this would be much appreciated.
@Goldfish, if we apply those gloves we got from Gith, are we likely to get anything on the Mindblanked creature from the things it may have touched?

Object Reading should provide information despite the protection offered by Mind Blank, just as Stone Tell can still give some information, but the information provided is quite limited for our purposes.

Minimizing the list of suspects is good anyway.

Kay, I'm at my limit here.
@Goldfish, @Crake, ye sure we can't at least try finding more about the (presumed) Stranger's Chosen before yet more politicking?
We have a non-zero chance.

Speaking of politicking you could also try to find out more about Alyn's supplier from him if you could get into his confidence, or for that matter maybe even from his knights too. You don't know how much any of them know.
Sure we can.
Or we can spook the "benefactor" even by appearing on the radar.

Better make as much headway into the "investigation" by ourselves beforehand, imo - at least we'll know more questions to ask.

[X] Egoo

It looks like @egoo is on the rise!

Market will be looking good, fellow STALKER!

"When?"

"NOW"

Edit: It's a blowout sale. 🤓

Your slav-oriented Stalker-memes have no power over me!
My armor is unpenetrable!

Now, had you made a HOMM3-joke, on the other hand...
alas, all Slavs are weak to it.
