To the best of my understanding, we're plugging the main ways in and out, if it wants to fly out through the ceiling, that's outside of the scope of our cordon, we're just closing off the main exits and making sure the Skaven can't cheese it while otherwise not interfering.
When I see "all entrances to the mountain," I read that as "including the one it entered the mountain through." How is setting up a fortification between it and its home not a hostile action?

I disagree with your Yar votes, but intellectual integrity compels me to point out that your formatting is wrong (missing [) and it's not going to count your votes.

I think I am really not particularly fond of any plans that go anywhere near Dragon or Dragons's mountain, so I'd rather just clean up trolls and wait for a few hours. Then with new intel, we can decide.

This is just Clan Mors' No Good Super Bad Day isn't it?
Let's be clear: it is everyone's Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day except ours, the dragon's (thus far it's had merely a "bad" day, owing to getting woken up from comfy sleeps by poison gas), and possibly the Mhonar Mystery's.
Also, Zilfin is full of poison that Skyre released. That's what started this whole mess. The Rangers might know ways around it, or not going into danger zones, but you send people in to hunt rats, some of them might run into pockets of badness and death.
This is a very good point.

@BoneyM, sorry to be a pest; the update says this:
The Rangers have swept Karag Zilfin as best as they can, skirting the areas where the stench of chemicals becomes overwhelming, and found very few survivors, though they weren't survivors as of shortly after the Rangers found them.
In the event that we choose to assault Karag Zilfin, does that mean that we're necessarily going to focus on the areas the Rangers avoided because of the smell of gas? I'm not asking for OOC information about what we can expect, but does Mathilde have thoughts/intentions about the gassed-out regions?

...no, nobody's going to be playing Lemmings and marching into the chemical death zone.

"I sincerely doubt the Skaven in Yar will continue fighting among themselves in the face of an Emperor Dragon, they're both known for their discipline--and Mors at least still thinks their core territories are safe"
I see it as a kind of prisoner dilemma - neither Mors nor Eshin can disengage without being destroyed by their enemy in short order. So, if they try to run away, and the enemy doesn't, they are dead. If, however, they keep fighting, they might win and then have their opportunity to run away from the dragon. So, since I doubt Skaven would be able to trust their enemies not to backstab them, both sides will continue fighting until one wins, even if dragon is going around killing them.

Trolls are quite literally particularly aggressive animals that are notoriously belligerent and consider anything smaller than them to be food.

Or anything larger that stays down long enough. Or...well, look, if they can fit it in their mouth, they'll try to eat it. If they can't fit it in their mouths, they'll beat on it until they can.

You are at wrong fandom. Also questions about the nature of Trolls is answered in canon which you should familarize yourself rather than asking stupid questions here. This is not the place for it.

Tone this down, please. You came across as very unnecessarily hostile.

Also, Zilfin is full of poison that Skyre released. That's what started this whole mess.

*cough* Slight correction. While they are/were indeed Skryre poisons, I'm pretty sure Johan actually released the poisons. Specifically -

"So, how about this. You grab a mask and a canister and anything else that catches your interest, then either sneak out or run if they spot you. Once you're out of the room, I go in and punch anything glass."

You open your mouth to object, then consider it some more. "Surely there must be some reason this is a terrible idea."

---

Nevertheless, the next day finds you and Johann lurking just outside the Grand Forge. Apart from the flames flickering under various alembics and calcinators and even more obscure equipment, the main source of light are a pair of enormous glass globes dangling from massive chains wrapped with wires, both filled with roiling chemicals of some description that glow with an almost white light, with only a slight green tinge giving everything a sickly pallor. You check the equipment you're targeting is still where you last saw it and nobody's nearby, then you nod to Johann, take a deep breath, and wrap your mind around the most complicated piece of magic you've ever cast in the field. Shadows solidify into jet-black blades, and at the exact instant they begin to shoot upwards, you're no longer in the doorway but already wrapping one arm around a gas canister and the other around the leather and metal facemask. Definitely too heavy to add any bonus acquisitions, so just as the Shadow Knives are about to punch through one of the glowing orbs, you concentrate on the other, fire off a second volley and once more you're in the shadows of the doorway.

As the sound of shattering glass and shrieks of alarm fill the air, you take off at a charge one way as Johann does the other, and the first massive glass cauldron is shattered by a golden fist just moments after the second globe is shattered too, and more and more shouts and shattering fills your ears, only fading as you turn a corner and start to climb a set of stairs.

I'm pretty sure this is the origin of the fumes that (eventually) set off the dragon.

At this rate, Belegar might consider that the Rangers ARE lacking a godly patron and clearly this Ranald thing is working if thats what happens when Mathilde builds a temple to the Gambler face.

OK, good, I am glad, but in that case I am a little confused about what exactly we mean to assault, since the update implied that the Rangers already swept everywhere that wasn't a chemical death zone.

Honestly, I think we're going to become the Ancestor God of Rangers if this keeps up.

No, it was confirmed that there were a few weeks between our raid and dragon wakey-wakey, so it was something Skryre did in response to our raid that woke it up.

I know you meant this as a joke, but when you think about it, Rangers actually have a lot in common with feral cats...

I've been thinking this since this whole conflict exploded, but this is the second time that Mathilde has wound up in charge of her leader's armies and allied forces and achieved just insane results. The first time we pacified Sylvania and destroyed Castle Drakenhof, this time we will be reclaiming at least a second third of Karak Eight Peaks and destroying a millions strong Ork WAARGH. Once is an accident, but twice is the start of a pattern.

It takes a great deal more people than that to fully sweep what is essentially a vertical city to an extent where you can reasonably say there's no more threat.
Got it; thank you for the clarification.

OK, with the confirmation that we are not doing the stupid thing and sending our people into chemical death zones, but that there is potentially more work to be done, I think we definitely do want to assault Zilfin. Skryre regrouping would be quite bad for us, and while the dragon is away from home is the best time to finish the job for it. We're not going anywhere near its lair.

Additional issue of negotiating with Dragon, aside from lacking grudge records, is that it is squatting on what dwarfs consider to be their ancestral home.
I am not sure they'll be happy to cede Upper Zilfin to it, even if they aren't going to use it anyway.
I'm kind of hopeful we can talk Belegar around to giving the Dragon Dwarf Favour for personally wiping out the local forces of a couple of Skaven clans. Which could let him legitimately 'grant' the Dragon (perpetual use of?) the mountain, like our penthouse.

Or count towards balancing out any lesser Grudges, if it has them. Assuming it doesn't want to fight the dwarves as well.
