It's entirely possible it's just a meteor from Morrslieb that's been there awhile.

A meteor inside the top of a mountain with no crater?

We're Grey, it's what we do.
I agree. I want to gather more information before we send a report but I feel the insights will be of great value to the order. It sucks that we will be breaking the confidence of those who hold us in high standing but that is just how things happen when you are a spy. It's highly unlikely to become public knowledge since the grey order will not do anything to risk their highest placed source in the Karaz Ankor.

I'm honestly salty about the way we got treated around learning intrigue. Yes it was a nat 1. I still want to slow-walk this until they actually start looping us into things.

Mathilde being on the council limits the support Belegar can gain be selling seats and Belegar needs all the support he can get with his disagreements with the High King.

I figure that there will be someone serving as the human rep on the council anyways, since the stewardship of Karag Nar needs to be handled. So it's either us with the rep or someone we point out to Belegar, in which case we might as well do it ourselves.

I want to do sneaky things in other Karags. I want to build up the town. I want to research a bunch. And I want to visit friends and make new ones.

So. That's going to be my priority for full turns.

Re: swords- ok, I'm a sucker for the poetry. Hope? Combining all the favor from the Citadel and both peaks? Like, the weapon given to the human who was there to show that there was more to the future than grudges and decline? Hope for regrowth, and refounding? Hope, to echo what Mathilde said to Van Hal, to Change the World?

I love it. It's honestly brought me over to the side of a 25-favor sword: a legendary weapon wielded by dwarf-friends, the way-opener, the Waaaaghcutter, the ratbane, cutting a swath through history in the hands of many heroes, always at the re-retaking of ancient holds.

Yeah, we definitely can use a rifle to great and powerful effect, so I want one. It'll be extremely effective for us, and we barely spent any time learning to use a pistol, so the sunk-cost isn't really that significant.

"This is so classified that I can tell you literally nothing, I can't even directly tell you it is that classified, and also you have to pretend as though you are learning useful and normal things while I sit here in silence because I can't even risk tipping anyone off that something this classified is happening."
Ah, that.

...Convincing Norscans to give up their raiding ways? Successfully encouraged positive relations between Stirlanders and Moot Halflings? Trying to figure out a way to give a marriage proposal to Mathilde?

Convincing Halflings to give up their Mootling ways while successfully encouraging positive relations between Norscans and Stirlanders while forwarding Mathilde marriage proposals from new raider Halflings?

What do you mean? What am I missing?

There was a locked action when we were talking college courses, and it was with our master on basically 'how to grey wizard'. Except we rolled a nat 1 on learning and that meant he gave us one cryptic sentence about stuff that was too secret to even talk about, then left us to kick our heels for two months that we couldn't take another course in. So my theory is that Mathilde is a little alienated from the spy stuff of the grey order- much more in touch with assasination and research and taking care of citizens sides of the college.

Edit: QM ninja'ed!

Every time the discussion of spending favors on personal gear comes up, I find myself reflecting upon the fact that Mathilde is habitually going deep into enemy territory to kill things. Very dangerous things, because those are the things that are the most important to kill. She's operating alone, without backup. This means that one day, she'll probably die and have her body looted.

Thankfully the Colleges accounted for this, as the Seed is both concealed from any looters and unusable without knowing its associated mnemonics; it's not impossible for it to be usefully looted but it would be very difficult.

Kragg did not account for this, as far as I can tell. Mathilde's wrapped up his belt in cloth to make it look more innocuous but it still might be found by a determined looter. The burns-dhar functionality is neat in that it might do horrible things to a chaos sorcerer or a vampire who tried to use it, but that only cuts out a small fraction of our potential enemies. If we have another dwarf item made, it will probably have security features roughly equivalent to Kragg's, i.e. not very solid ones.

So there's a good chance that one day, there will be a black orc warboss or an Eshin assassin running around with our shiny dozens-of-dwarf-favors runic gear. And when I reflect upon this, I conclude "maybe we should be spending those favors on things that aren't lootable bling".

Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

All this time away has made you miss your friends, and you'll be practically next door in Altdorf. Visit Anton and Wilhelmina.

Anyone voting for both of these might want to decide which one you really want, because they're competing for the Third Place slot at about four votes apart. Everything else is comfortably ahead or comfortably behind, so it's likely going to be one or the other of these but not both.

On council seats:
-Head Ranger is inherently going to have a lot of traveling to places and probably killing things. If we're looking to scoring favors off closing Grudges this would be it, but its also a somewhat combat intensive task, one the Thane normally would do. We're probably going to be looking at mission turns and home turns, reporting in between. This is an active reclaimation, there'd be lots of work.
--If we don't do this theres loads of good Dwarf Rangers to do it.

-Karag Nar Mayor is going to be a lot of politicking, administration and management. Things which Mathilde isn't outright incompetent in, and which adventurers are notably poor at. Its likely to be most similar to a feudal lord quest, lots of delegation.
--If we don't do this its likely that somebody out of the adventurers will be picked(or we help filter/terrorize the candidates)

-Court Wizard is basically the Solve/Check Weird Shit role. Greenskin shaman bullshit, Skaven sorcery, waystones being weird, dragon ogres, hiring/supervising Journeymanlings, etc. As this is a new thing to Belegar we'd have a broad remit, but keep in mind impossible jobs are possible simply because he doesn't know what is feasible. Lots of working with the Piety advisor(who might be a non-Kragg runepriest with the job of carefully bothering Kragg).
--Nobody would do this. Theres normally no Court Wizard at all.

[X] Remain in Karak Eight Peaks, either in the employ of Belegar or pursuing your research.

[X] Give them away...
- [X] To the Amber College

[X] King Belegar is allowing you to use the King's Armoury. Recover your extant study materials from Stirland and tuck them away safely in there.
[X] Claim the site where Ranald mugged Mork and build a shrine to Ranald there.
[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.

Can't say something like that without posting the actual tally, could you do the honors? (I have no idea how to do it myself)

[X] You've been out of touch for a while. Linger in Altdorf after you visit the College and catch up with what's been happening in the Empire.

Reasoning: While we're there why not stay a while and listen? Plus I imagine trying to set up/negotiate things for establishing EIC branch would take quite a bit.

Eshin are Skaven, Skaven have warpstone in their bodies, and as I understand it warpstone is to Dhar what Power Stones are to the various discrete Winds. Only way Skaven are using that belt if they get it off Mathilde is to assassinate their own kind.

Probably no more than eighteen months or so. But they will be eventful months with input at a few separate stages.

Well, dang. That seriously puts me in the 15-favor-max camp. I don't think Mathilde is going to use her sword anywhere often enough to justify 18 months worth of work. If we really want an "endgame" sword we'll just have to find one instead of comissioning it.
The other fan theory being that the 1 killed the Empress ;)

More like it turned out that the Empress was running the conspiracy ring because of the nat 1.

Are we so sure that Court Wizard isn't going to be similar whatever a resident Runesmith would do? The dwarves already have magic specialists to study and investigate magic stuff, it's just they're all specialized in enchanting work over anything else. I think we'd be more of a varzent than unique.

@BoneyM Maybe this is too OOC, but what would you think of framing the assignments as Belegar's list of choices if he was the one choosing where to put Mathilde? What seat on his counsel would he request/recommend we go?

Never thought I'd cry for a gobbo. It has happened now. Well done,my good man.
I feel sorry for the little guy now.
This hurt. I barely knew about Skarsnik a month ago, but sad animals never fail to make me cry if properly written. I both hate and love you for this.
How dare you make me sad about grobi
:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::(:(:(

I'd kinda meant for this to be a bittersweetly happy ending- at least he's got Gobbla, right?? And countless good dawi don't die horrible deaths, and one Jeremiah von Bickenstadt gets to live blissfully sane and whole instead of being forced to write Skarsnik's biography (seriously, Guy Haley's Skarsnik book is amazing stuff, check it out).

And I'd say it's a happier ending than the one Skarsnik gets in canon, where he gets to watch Gobbla whimper and die horribly before wandering off in a depressed fugue, and then disappears forever because Games Workshop literally forgot to write his comeback or a proper ending in the End Times. Yes, I'm still bitter.

On another note:

[X] Remain in Karak Eight Peaks, either in the employ of Belegar or pursuing your research.

[X] Speak with King Belegar and King Kazador about the relationships and apparent rifts between Dwarfholds.
[X] Scout the rest of the Eight Peaks, to find out what other horrors are waiting out there.
[X] Join Karak Azul as they raid and scout in force the other portions of the Karak.

I'm so glad the dwarf ride never ends. Boney's doing an amazing job writing them all, and I really want to see Mathilde help make a difference in K8P. (And also to help Belegar make Thorgrim eat his words.)

I am reasonably certain that most skaven do not have meaningful concentrations of warpstone in their bodies. If that was so, then the skaven population would be limited by the quantity of available warpstone because it would be basically a necessary vitamin for them to grow properly, and there's no way that their numbers are capped by something that uncommon.

That said, if you've got a lore source on this that isn't obviously insane I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
