So, the Grand Marshals.

You ever wanted to make your own knight order?
You ever wanted to get some manling political capital out of this jaunt?
You ever wanted to pet a really, really big puppy?

Befriend a Grand Marshal today!

While I don't know who to spend time with right now, I do know that Grey Wizards, as a general rule, don't look for notability or renown. As such, I'll be voting for:

[X] Mirage Map

Ulgu only currently, but you suspect it might be adaptable by some of the more cooperative winds, like Metal and Light.
Aqshy really isnt the wind one would associate with the word cooperative, but it really should get the spell as well just because of how wonderful a massive map of flames that radiates an uncomfortable amount of heat and hurts to look into would be as scene-setter/set-piece.
Especially since it can also serve as environmental hazard once the assassins show up. :V

A literal heatmap.

[X] King Belegar Ironhammer
[X] Maximilian de Gaynesford
[X] Panoramia
[x] Johann
[X] Head Ranger Ulthar Alriksson

[X] Fog of War

Rereading past updates, noticed a few things :
[Accuracy: Breakpoints 40/80, Martial, 50+19=69.]
[Flashiness: Martial, 89+19=108.]
[Time taken: Martial, 5+19=24.]
[Collateral damage: 78.]
Well then. Of course our dice roll for maximum coolness when there are no witnesses around.

Still satisfying to read though. Build a legend, indeed !

As you approach one of them, Ulgu pours off you and adheres to the shadow that starts to form behind you, at first small and faint but as you approach the light source, it grows until the silhouette of a fleeing Skaven fills the tunnel behind you, blocking the light from reaching your pursuers. Then that darkness starts to burn.
Wait, so we can make ourselves into something with a huge shadow and then use Substance of Shadow to weaponize it?
We could become a troll or something for next time we use that spell! Or perhaps even a Dragon, for an even bigger shadow?

Since Social interactions are now the topic of the day let's talk about romance options. I think the real reason we don't have any romantic options right now is simply because we literally don't have romantic options.

The people we've spent time with so far consist predominately of the Expedition leaders and our journeymen.

Of the expeditions leaders we've associated with our romantic choices consist of a bunch of Dwarfs, a Halfing and a Sylvaninan. Those are all out since no matter how desperate Mathilde is I think she at least wants to date within her own species. Classic Stirland Humor

Of the Joureymanlings we have the Amber wizards who have their own thing going on, a jade wizard who is a complete fangirl, a gold wizard who's an arrogant prick obsessed with metal and another one who wants to play with Skaven warpstone engineering.

Basically what I'm saying is maybe we should meet new people.

The first time 'Mountain Vietnam' was invoked, it was as a prediction of how the Expedition would be, which seemed rather unfair when I hadn't even started writing it. Now that we're here and everyone can judge the past thirtyish updates for themselves, it seems more like a parallel, and one I'm okay with. torroar's quest was a big inspiration for my own.

Okay, time to take a look at the critical portion of this vote: Who deserves hangout time. A big part of the primary consideration here is who we want to see on-screen, of course, but more than that...
- There may be long-term benefits to getting close to people, but there won't be any direct consequences for this decision. Consider this a short break from the fighting.
...there's this. The people who we talk to are the ones that we build friendships with, contacts who will hopefully last for decades and shape Mathilde's options in the future. We only have time for so many friends.

Chose as many as you like; the three with the most votes will be selected.
[ ] King Belegar Ironhammer
[ ] Head Ranger Ulthar Alriksson
[ ] Thane Skaroki Grimbrow
[ ] Master Runelord Kragg the Grim
[ ] Grand Master Ruprecht Wulfhart
These are, I think, all the people who fought in the battle in our general area. They're likely to have heard of our deeds already just as we've heard of theirs, so we can celebrate the battle properly and show mutual respect for each other being badasses. Except with Kragg, that guy is probably going to be angry for the next fifty years over the Temple being despoiled and corrupted to foul greenskin gods, so I wouldn't recommend coming within fifty meters of him.

In terms of long-term connections Belegar has obvious prominence and is keenly aware of the importance of Mathilde's role in the recent battles, so he's a very good bet if we want to solidify our recent deeds into lifelong friendship. Ulthar has shown himself willing to put a staggering level of trust into Mathilde and is very trusted by Belegar, so he would also be an excellent connection to cultivate in Eight Peaks. We don't have anywhere near as much of a basis for relations with Thane Grimbrow so I don't think we can expect as high a return for action slot with him, although admittedly if we want to move to build that relationship now would be a prime moment.

Special mention for the Grand Master here; he is probably the single best choice for Mathilde's career as a Magister within the Empire. Friendship with the dwarves is something that Mathilde has at this point whether she focuses in on her relationship with Belegar and Ulthar or not, but she is very short on human friends, particularly ones in prominent positions in the Empire. Remember that part of being a Wizard Lord is having a lot of politically prominent friends, and making a Grand Master's opinion shift from "Dame Weber and I both fought at Eight Peaks, but not together" into "Mathilde is my old war buddy!" could have a very significant impact on her future career.

All of the journeymen have fairly similar profiles; in terms of immediate benefit we can hear about how they've done in battle but this is mostly just making friends for when they're Magisters. Admittedly, having friends across several other Colleges is of significant value, if we want to get heavy into College politics later.

I guess Panoramia might care about getting a heads-up that she might want to look into the mushrooms that we didn't scavenge because that option was silly, and the Amber duo may need direction in order to engage the giant spiders... but honestly both of those seem like things that don't need Mathilde to be hanging out with them during a party to have happen. Presumably we will be able to reallocate our journeyman forces when the campaign moves to its next battle phase.

[ ] Engineer Durin Wutokri
[ ] Grand Master Sigwald Kriegersen
[ ] Marksman Codrin Petrescu
[ ] Marshal Titus Muggins
All of these people were fighting elsewhere and could tell us more about how they're doing, though that will be redundant with official reports soon enough except on unofficial objectives, like discovering how many of his men Codrin's gotten killed yet. In terms of long-term friendships I am inclined to say that once again the Grand Master of a knight order is a powerful contact for anyone in the Empire, although Mathilde would be starting pretty cold there as she wasn't even anywhere near him. Titus at has a history of murdering things with Mathilde around to build on and would probably strongly approve of her habits of assassination, but he's likely to be staying at Eight Peaks and if we want a contact here Belegar is likely the one to put the action on.

Who's a lovable ball of fuzz? That's right, it's this guy! Isn't he cute? Vote this if you want Mathilde to love her puppy deeply, more than she loves politics or people. No expected gains, many expected affectionate face-licks.

So, my choices:
[x] King Belegar Ironhammer
[x] Head Ranger Ulthar Alriksson
[x] Grand Master Ruprecht Wulfhart

Honestly I feel this was much better done than ungor might be the differences between the two Karaks but even the way you name the threadmarks breaks up the campaign and makes it less of a slog than it was.
I mean don't get me wrong torrar is a great writer and it was masterfully written but I look forward to this I had to fight to read through ungor.
The comparison is still funny though.

Eh, to be fair, you can do all that stuff with lesser magic. What Mirage Map is good for is that it lingers and allows you to edit the parameters without having to recast the whole spell--something largely at its best for battlefield mapping or really complicated 3D Diagrams.
Also, it can probably be reprogrammed for great improvised puppet-plays.

- Minimap Spell: Acquired. It allows you to project, edit and colour a fairly low-resolution 3D visualization. It is Relatively Simple and seems to be similar to Marsh Lights; it could be considered an illusion but its eerie glowiness makes it poorly suited for deceit.
Well... this spell is awesome!

It won't change the battlefield in dramatic ways, it won't make the enemy army route in terror, but it will take the gathering and expression of information and turn it into a tool that will save lives while causing immense problems for an opponent.

Also, every Grey Order Magister whose looking to plan a strike against a static location will want to learn this spell. A relatively simple spell that allows one to plot out guard positions, locations of interest, and presence of agents? This is going to be valuable for the ability to clearly communicate where to go and how to reach there. I can just imagine a couple of wizards taking up a large room in the Grey Order building and drafting a map of an entire city to figure out where exactly traitors might be hiding.

Sound reasoning by Dark, aligns with my own thinking but is better expressed. Accumulating bit of Empire political capital is a good idea.

It is kind of neat to think that for a lot of dwarves, we're probably only recognizable by our sweet-ass Kragg-made giant belt-buckle.
And since Mathilde is a Stirlandian Peasant, I can make this joke:
"you might be a redneck if someone asks to see your ID and you show 'em your belt buckle."
