How well-defined is the subject of Astronomy is in-setting?
I've not watched/read the ASoIaF, so I genuinely have no idea.

Well people have known the world is round for a while from observing ships at sea. The heliocentric model of the universe is still up for debate in academic circles (this is all something I came up with BTW, I do not think GRRM ever mentions it, he is too busy writing food porn to care about planets :V )

Do any of you guys accompany Boku No Hero/My Hero Academia?

I've been MIA for the day as I've been catching up on nearly a hundred chapters, and boy do I have a bone to pick with the way the story is going...

They have a working clockwork model of Planetos' Solar System in the Library of the Citidel per The World of Ice and Fire

Is is ever actually described? Is there official art?
Because there were models of the solar system with earth at its center, back in the day.

Its described in passing. We don't really know much about it save that it is supposed to be "Accurate"

Presumably it was built back before the Doom. Most impressive stuff in setting was.

While spells like Planetarium and Sky Shroud don't explicitly reveal Heliocentrism it makes for such a clear viewing that if the effort was put in they should know.

Factor in that how the Universe lines up is integral for rituals, spells etc. that have a binary Correct/Incorrect outcome for immediately tangible results and it's basically guaranteed that the Valyrians at the very least knew how it all works and Viserys has Dragon Dreams.

While that is true keep in mind the dragon dreams are vast, unless one is prompted by some external stimulus (like seeing a monster or spell) or is actively looking for the information it he does not necessarily know it.

10/10 post.
People should be rating you funny or insightful, that was genuinely hilarious.
Seriously, why didn't someone slap him a bit after his "realization"?
Protecting the light, you know what would have helped protect the light, not changing fucking colors Yrael, that was our shiny, we needed that shiny, we used it like a week ago so don't even pretend you didn't know.
You are a public figure Yrael, you were on TV, i think someone, bear with me, might notice that YOUR FUCKING WINGS ARE NO LONGER GOLD!.
You are killing me Yrael, i fucking vouched for you, and you fuck me on this, you had one job, not changing fucking colors, and what do you do? you know what happens now? the story goes from "Celestials follow him willingly" to "His voice dooms the very souls of angels and his touch defiles the sanctity of gold", you could have let us know you know? "I will of course help you drive your point my liege, but i must warn you that i can spontaneously turn into a symbol of the loss of grace when exposed to a 5 min conversation, you ok with that?"
sigh, you get my meaning.

To be fair there are plenty of unfallen celestials who still follow Viserys

Yeah, but he was consistently our go to "look, we have an angel, how evil can we be?"
and he is too "honest" to at least keep it hidden, someone is going to talk and this time we can't talk it away because they will reach the obvious conclusion and the obvious conclusion is right.
what if it catches? god, has he touched Shieldbro? thats the other one we use, they are going to think we are burning through them by parading them around.

Your original shield archon is still unfallen and will likely remain so. A large part of what made Yrael Fall was being the leader of Mantarys and all the compromises that came with that.

  • [X] Plan "Githzerai, we choose you!"
    -[X] In order of priority;
--[X] We've located where we believe most, if not all, Deep One bases are in our realm. There are too many of them for us to attack simultaneously, however, which is where our immediate need for Githzerai assistance comes into play. We would like to hire as many teams of powerful Githzerai combatants as are available to take part in a series of raids aimed at sweeping the Deep Ones from our home. If need be, this would be a coordinated effort working with other Githzerai Monastaries.
---[X] We also need specialists who train our own forces in how to best fight against such foes in the future. It would be ideal if we could even establish our own tradition of training those rare individuals in our empire who might be gifted with Psionic power.
----[X] We have gathered a truly incredible amount of lore since stepping out into the Planes, lore which we would be happy to share with our allies, but we have found precious little pertaining to the Deep Ones and the strange powers of the mind they wield. We would pay well for whatever new Psionic and/or Deep One lore the Githzerai can provide.
-----[X] Although our realm grows, and increases in magical power almost on a daily basis, we have no one able to craft items of Psionic power. Not only would we be willing to purchase useful items they could sell us, we would also like to hire any Psionic crafters who might offer us their services.
-[X] In exchange, we would be willing to exchange information and lore of equal or greater value (nothing proscribed or confidential), not to mention pay handsomely. Our realm is rich in foodstuffs and raw materials, and we can provide innumerable types of quality finished goods, including enchanted items and spellcasting services. We can also pay in planar currency, if desired.

No. Going, "By the way, can we have the corpses of your strongest leaders?" on our first meeting is a diplomatic mallus we simply don't need. "Reassuring" them that they can choose when and if they want to do it doesn't make it any less weird.
We aren't asking for their corpses, we are asking for the corpses of their enemies, which is rather a different thing, we are simply telling them that we have an efficient way to convert dead Illithid into soldiers.

It's a bit strange, but explaining that we have a way to turn their enemies corpses into allies, is only going to be a malus if we flub the diplomacy roll, and with Viserys diplomacy score, there's not much chance of that.

@das_slash

As someone who has consistently argued against reinforcing the ignorant belief that shiny is good, I have to say Sorry, not sorry as I'm very glad with the outcome.

Xor is a bro and the Light Fey Lord was an asshole.

Yss is better than the golden bastard who's skin we now wear and Uncle Brynden, rotted as he is, does more for our subjects than that Hero Killer epitome of seven angelicness that we have the misfortune of also being related to.

It is in our interest for people to recognise good because they can see the value in it for themselves and others, because it aligns with the values that they bought into as imperial citizens, not because a particular being is saying it.

Choose the message, not the messenger and if anyone is likely to make the mistake of prioritising the latter better to address it now.

@DragonParadox

No rush but if an interlude comes up and it's not Yi Ti or Goblin Market you did mention you might do something with Orphans/Glyra.

Part MMMXXII: Against the Lords of Madness
Against the Lords of Madness

Nineteenth Day of the Tenth Month 293 AC

It is not long after the introductions have been spoken and tea had been drunk in greeting that Teana excuses herself to look into the monastery's library and of course explain a sampling of the lore you can offer to its keepers, while Dany expresses an interest to see the sparring field you suspect more for Sandor's sake than her own.

The discussion winds on unhurried as traders tales' give way to deeper understanding of where each of you stands, not only on the matter of your mutual foes but in the wealth of your coffers and the depth of your lore. Rather than remaining in place where young ears might hear more than they aught the Grandmaster motions you to follow him down corridors illuminated in the soft blue of mind-forged crystals and into gardens where leaves like flickering amber shadows dance upon fractal branches. You remark upon the beauty of the garden, and the uses the torches and the powers behind them could be put to.

"Do you know where such 'powers' as you call them spring?" the old mystic asks looking at you intently.

"The Far Realm," you reply honestly and with no attempt to veil your knowledge. "I was told that in that realm of unnameable forms and unspeakable thoughts mind and flesh are one and ever-mutable." A gamble, but one better taken now than pushed off into some unclear future. Xor's presence in your realm is known to tens of thousands in Sorcerer's Deep alone and even if you could bid him to hide again you will not do so.

"Who shared with you such knowledge of the Realm of Madness?" The question might all too easily have been accusatory, but it was spoken in the same soft tone Randar had greeted everything from tales of Valyria to news of your realm's growing prosperity.

"A friend, one who has stood staunchly beside me not only in battle but in raising a better future brick by brick, or in his case song by song, for his art is music," you reply, going on to recall all of Xor's tale save the very beginning which none but you and your companions know of. Even if you did trust the Githzerai to understand on such short notice, which you do not, the scars of Lys are far too fresh to reveal your friend's unknowing part in the plague of unlife.

"You are young and quick to judge, but there can be wisdom in swiftness too, particularly when battle draws close," the Grandmaster replies thoughtfully. "However, it is in the training of young minds that such haste is least welcome, to move with will and flesh as one, to weave of thoughts imperishable matter, these skills are gained over a lifetime of study and meditation, they shape not only what one may accomplish but who one is upon passing beyond the gates of the monastery once more. I cannot promise you that we can open the eyes of your subjects who were touched by Far Things but not consumed, nor even that they would wish to be awoken as Zerthimon was."

"Fair words," you nod, disappointed though not unduly so. With access to the Flesh Forge you can simply make more with Jeyne's gifts, and of all the multitudes of mankind there must be some whom the Githzerai would deem worthy and who could then teach others. "That which I must need are not teachers but warriors," you continue. "Though we know much of where the foe is found there are not many who can face them in their hidden fastnesses, to cut the heart from their breast with swift dagger strikes."

Grandmaster Randar falls into one of his long silences, "Your mind is closed as though with bars of iron, Dragon Lord, your fate hidden from the sharpest gaze and so are those of your companions, but I know enough to magic to know the price of such spells are not light. Could you ward four hundred instead of four?"

"Not easily, no, but for a single raid that would be over in hours at the latest... I think it could be done." If not by the Merling King for the sake of ancient grudges, then by Yss a service bought in blood.

"Very well, so long as we do not charge into ruin by raiding a prepared foe then my order will be at your side against those who once enslaved my people and would now do the same to yours," comes the reply, soft as ever but unwavering as steel. "In exchange I would ask not for wealth but rather supplies for the war upon the Sundered Garden."

  • Historical lore regarding the Deep Ones on the planes -> Lore of the Deep Ones on the Prime Material
  • Teaching Psionic Arts -> Free though conditional on finding compatible students
  • Commission Psionic Items -> +25% standard market price for items with manifester levels 1-5; +40% standard market price for items with manifester levels 6-10; +70% standard market price for items with manifester levels 11-15; manifester levels 16-20 not available

OOC: Here we are. I'm tempted to write an interlude of Sandor sparring with a psionic monk. Would anyone be interested?

What about a greater attack?

A strike with all we have on multiple Illicities, not meant to be hidden but to strike hard enough to be difficult to resist with their available assets.

Would he lend warriors for that?

What do they want. What resources do they need.

That is abstracted as the 400.000 IM.

Yes, assuming you could tie down the Deep Ones in Elysium too so they do not overwhelm the Gith allies there.

[X] Agreed on all accounts.
-[X] Now to sate your curiosity. Out of anyone out in the Planes who would be clear-eyed and keep the tales straight, it would likely be these people, so what really went down during the Sundering, at least by their account?

[X] Crake

Can we specifically mention that we would like to coordinate between other Monasteries in order to gather a crushing force against th Deep Ones?

Also, we brought an Interplanar Whispering Brazier to leave with them if they wish to remain in contact with us.

I think that's covered already, since we implicitly voted to offer the Brazier if they'll take it, and mentioned coordination in the previous vote. If it isn't specifically called out in an update by @DragonParadox, it's because it's implied to be taken-as-given.
