I might change my mind later (and I expect a lot of votes changing depending on the tallies), but for now I'll go with

[ ] The Foreigners

Honestly the only one I don't care much for is the knight one. My second choice would probably be the rich or the mistery box (...I kinda hope she's a changeling who infiltrated the party. Really unlikely, but I can hope!)

[X] The Scholars: While the Archimedes Institute lays claim to the finest young minds in the Empire, that does not mean that one cannot find learned Griffons outside of it. A number of the more scholastically inclined noble heirs have congregated on the balcony outside, discussing the latest developments and discoveries in their fields of academic interest. Most of the children here wouldn't be able to keep up with such learned youngsters. But Gawain has spent years as Archimedes' personal protégé, and is one of the most well-educated Griffons in the Empire. A discussion of mechanics or natural philosophy would be a welcome change to the usual topic of noble politics at gatherings such as these.

Im kinda hoping for the loner because mystery and the scholars because they would be like gawain in terms of smarts and be a good conversation for him.

  • [X] The Loner: In a corner, sitting by herself, is a young She-Griffon, obviously trying to avoid attracting attention to herself. From where he stands, Gawain can't tell if she's shy or simply content to people watch from her seat in quiet isolation, but she certainly doesn't seem like the type of Gryph who's eager to suck up. She might make an interesting conversation partner, if nothing else.

[X] The Rich Chicks: The poster-children for the Silver Talon Society. While all the attendees of events such as this are of the upper class, a talonfull standout as being descended from particularly wealthy families. From the heirs to powerful duchies to the children of powerful business magnates, their clothes cost more than the average Imperial Citizen could hope to make in a year. With their future positions already assured, such a privileged few are unlikely to demean themselves in search of a leg up. And who knows, perhaps he and they will have something in common behind the vast wealth of their parents?
[X] The Young Knights: Well, perhaps knights is too strong a word. Though they hold themselves in an imitation of military posture, and though several of them bear the faux medals of the Young Squires youth organization, it's clear that these children are the heirs to their parents' noble titles. As such, though they aspire to dreams of knighthood and martial glory, virtually none of them will be allowed to risk their lives in such a dangerous profession. Still, though they may never become true knights, this does not stop them from becoming proficient in the arts of war, and training themselves to a high standard of physical fitness.

Going with foreigners myself because gawain seems the diplomancer type like his father. Making friends with the scholars I'm okay with one of his siblings getting an in with.

[X] The Foreigners: A bunch of Neighponese Qilin had been invited to this particular party in the interests of "furthering international camaraderie and cooperation." While they're all the same race and nationality, their backgrounds vary wildly, from the children of military officers to the scions of wealthy merchant houses. It's even rumored that the Neighponese Ambassador's child is present, though it's difficult to pick them out of the crowd of scaled equines, each of them dressed in finely embroidered silk garments. Disconnected from the intricacies of Griffonian politics, Gawain is hopeful that they are likely to treat him as just another foreign noble...assuming he can breach the language barrier. He's been taking lessons in Neighponese, but he's never tried to communicate with a native speaker outside of his tutors.

[X] The Loner

Is it not a ruler's duty to make all subjects feel welcome?

I'm sure they don't make spies this young.

Name: Garrick Golden-Feather

Age: 46

Titles: Emperor of Gryphus, King of Griffonia, Inheritor of the Imperial House of Gryphus, The Unifier, Great Winged Alpha, The Lightbringer

Description: Before your wife got her talons on you, you were a fairly typical example of the Griffon species. An unmistakably masculine build, a strong, prominent beak, feathers and fur that seem to be perpetually well-groomed, and a pair of piercing amber eyes hiding a fierce intelligence. Not anymore though. Oh, you still have all those qualities, they're just overshadowed by the massive amount of muscle you've put on since you started your wife's "enhanced training regimen". Your wings can lift dumbbells, and your legs are like tree-trunks supporting a barrel chest rippling with abdominal muscles. In short, you have the build of a person who has been lifting heavy objects his entire life.

Knightly Orders (Self Maintained): In the old Empire, Knightly Orders were typically made up of Griffons of noble birth who joined a fraternal militant organization dedicated to martial excellence, honor, and a number of various edicts of moral strength. These great warriors dedicated themselves to the Emperor and the protection of the common Gryph. Tragically, few of these brave souls survived the reign of Discord. But a new breed of Knights now seeks to serve as your sword and shield, and will rally to your banner whenever you may need them.

Persons of Interest

???: A friendly and strangely casual Griffon female you met at your inaugural ball. Despite having a wonderful evening chatting with her, you never got her name.

Garibaldi Talonuelli: Formerly the Duke of Wingbardy, now the Grand Duke of Wingbardy, Talonuelli is a beloved public figure in his home province and an experienced administrator. After saving his city and people from Brochard's attempted invasion and negotiating his province's vassalage over a few drinks, you'd like to think you can count him among your friends.

Federico Montefeathertro: Duke of the (former) City-State of Urbirdo, and your Father-in Law. He might just be the friendliest of the former Feathersians, having agreed to back you and your kingdom without question or condition during the Brochard Crisis, and hiring a mercenary outfit as a belated wedding gift. You're reasonably certain he likes you, as much as In-Laws can like each other anyway.

Koryū Ryuō: The draconic Emperor of the Island Kingdom of Neighpon. Having agreed to assist you in the war against the Shadow King and making fast friends with your adoptive daughter, you consider him a decent fellow who you can trust to keep his word, and a valuable ally against any destructive forces the world can throw at you.

Minamoto Tadakatsu: Shogun of Neighpon. Born to peasant farmers, he's more than earned his place as the most powerful Samurai amongst the Qilin. After he lead the Neighponese contingent during the Invasion of the Crystal Empire and kindly instructed you in the myriad varieties and intricacies of tea on the campaign trail, you've come to respect the more-than-century-old leader.

Konrad Hardbeak, "The Kingslayer": Grandmaster of the Knights Lion and Hero of the Empire. Beheaded Brochard the pretender, crippled Sombra the shadow king twice over, and received the very first Imperial Medal of Honor. Despite it all, he is surprisingly humble, insisting in vain that he was, and is, merely doing his duty to the Empire, and to you. He is the very model of an Imperial Knight.
