Any chance of the 7 fracturing will be based on those bought by the Lannisters, and the real fanatics. Killing Lucan insure the 7 never splinter and instead his martyrdom unites them and starts a religious war that won't end until we kill half of Westros.

Yeah Lucan believes were as bad as the rumors say because he can't get past Mind blank for real facts. So he tries to kill us, strange how that reminds me of recent events.

The Old gods are just going to have to deal with only getting there super tree, and all the other shit we've done for them or pick a lesser 3rd option. It's strange so many people on this thread don't want us kissing the ass of gods but we're bending over backwards to kill the ass of some trees.

We have NO IDEA if Lucan or even the 7 can be reasoned with because we haven't tried it. Don't assume, let their people go, offer a meeting on neutral ground, and try talking to them as people. See if the can set up a direct meeting with the 7. Be cause anything else is going to have serious long term costs.

You know, it would be much easier to take advice from you if it wasn't dripping with condescension.

I'm busy with a pathfinder game. Don't expect anything from me tonight, especially after how the vote was - as others have said - completely mangled and the update should have stopped about halfway through instead of just making us double down on what clearly wasn't working.

What was it someone said, retrained our Diplomacy score into Craft (Basketweaving)?

It was not by best work I'll admit I struggled with it. Maybe I should have struggled more.

Doesn't change the fact that we kidnapped her friends. She is deathly afraid that we are going to kill all her friends and Lucan's friends. She is here begging for a shred of "morality". She has no cards to play but this one. This is her last play. A plea for mercy.
Which is ridiculous. How is she this naive? I really do not understand this character, but she's supposed to have been around and doing things for a while, surely she's learned something from her experiences.

Getting thoughts out of my head as time permits. Some stolen from @TalonofAnathrax, too.

[] Plan TBD
-[] "I admit to judging Lucan harshly, Lady Danelle, but not without due cause. For years now, my Companions and I have worked to protect the world, Westeros included, from horrors you know as well as I, and a good many I would wager you have no knowledge of. Yet my first interaction with the workings of Lucan Longfield was the spirit of my long dead ancestor, Baelor the Blessed, Called as an Angel at his behest and given a Divine mission to slay me. Baelor did not succeed, save in poisoning my opinion of your fellow Chosen.
-[] "In both Westeros and Essos, I have seen mages bound to service through curses. Forcing mages to fight anyone who could free them or kill themselves if they could not is the obvious binding, and one I would not risk again. Noble lords and wise masters have both sunk this low, so who was I to trust Lucan's good name, when he has already made himself my enemy?
-[] "So, yes, I captured Lucan's companions, but without harming them, to see just how willingly they served him. I truly regret that your own friends were involved. Rest assured, they will be released to you without expectations of service or recompense. You need not serve as my mouthpiece here in the Conclave to save your friends."
-[] "My interest is not in benefiting the Faith, Lady Danelle, but insuring the survival of those who live upon this planet, protecting them from all that would see them as little more than play things and cattle to be fed upon. The Seven have raised a champion against me, devoting time, effort, and resources towards eliminating me, while Devils and worse make Westeros their playground."

...so I was angrily ranting in my head about why 90% of the faith are dumb, when the phrase 'how about you explain to the old gods why the idea of punishing children for the sins of their fathers is a dumb one!' Came into my mind.

Huh.

What if we brought Lucan and Danielle to the old gods and had the old gods list their grievances?

This is probably a stupid idea, but it might actually accomplish something.
Problem is the old gods aren't visiting the sins of the father on the sons, they are punishing the servants for the crimes of their masters, as hitting a gods faith is the best way to punish that god.

Sure all the mortal participants in the Andal invasion are long dead, but the godly masterminds who ordered it are still alive and thriving, and it's them the old gods want to punish, harming their worshippers are just a way to do that.

This is a grudge between immortals, the servants might change with the times, but the rulers remain the same, and it's those rulers who it's truly about punishing.

The old gods want the Seven weakened and humiliated, the easiest way to do this is to kill their most powerful worshippers, but that don't mean it's the only way, if the Seven was actually prepared to acknowledge and pay for their crimes, they could give us some of their artifacts to sacrifice to the old gods, this would weaken them as they did to the old gods, and sacrificing some of their divine power is about as sincere as a godly apology can get, but of course the Seven will never do this, so we have to carve the power out of their strongest servants.

The old gods problem isn't really with Andal bloodlines, while wiping certain ones out, are part of how they plan to humiliate the Seven, those bloodlines are being targeted because they pay homage to the Seven, if one of the Andal lines had converted to Rh'llor in the meantime, then the old gods would have no interest in them.
Well, to be fair she did not try to kidnap our people.

As far as we know she did not take any action against us at all.
We didn't really try to kidnap her people either, we didn't know they were there until the attack was already started, we only planned to kidnap Lucan's people, and summoning a Kingkiller aimed at us, rather clearly showed where he stands in regards to us.

Personally I say we release Danelle's people as we have no problem with them, but keep Lucan's people, as in summoning a creature specifically meant to hunt us down, he has rather decisively proven, that while the church of the Seven as a whole might not be our enemy, he certainly is.
Do keep in mind this was Baelor, he was not he most stable man even in life. :V
The fact Lucan would summon an unstable man, with the specific purpose of killing us is telling though.
More serious approach:

[X] There is no proposal that can benefit the Faith and the Faithful alike. The best outcome, the one least likely to end in fire or blood, is for the Faith to weaken and fade, to split up into small sects with little political relevance. That is how the Faithful will survive and be protected, while the Old Gods are satisfied.
-[X] Can you act against your gods for the sake of their followers? Then we can find an agreement.
The old gods don't demand near that much, they do demand reparations, but not to the point of rendering the Seven impotent.
To make it clear this isn't an issue of pride. This is the fact that the old gods want the faith shattered or several swimming pools of blood, and I'd much rather given them the first rather than the latter.
There are more options than that, the old gods would probably enjoy the sacrifice of some of the Sevens artifacts more than the sacrifice of Seven followers, especially if said artifacts was brought before them by a Chosen of the Seven, so we basically have to convince Danelle, that the Seven themselves owe a debt to the old gods, and the only way to avoid a bloody war, is getting them to acknowledge and pay this debt.

[X] Plan "No concessions, but seek a calmer conversation later".

@DragonParadox
Might she and Lucan be willing to simply leave the conclave, in exchange for us releasing the hostages?

Just go and stop foiling our plans at every turn.
We can propably salvage our schisma if we don't have competent opposition anymore.

And we're already being called out on how that was stupid. Murdering her now would just be proving her right.
Precisely. The question is if you care.

The point I'm trying to make is that the thread can't have it both ways. You can't do whatever you want, because you are the Hard Man Making Hard Decisions While Hard that will save the world and be nice to the people you are throwing under the bus for it.

If you think Viserys is unquestionably right and Danelle and Lucan are unquestionably wrong, kill the two of them and be done with it.
If you think Danelle is a nice and caring person you want to work with, take a long hard look at your recent actions and speeches and ask yourself what you can do to make that up to her.

But you can't tell her that she is a annoying stain on your lovely kingdom and expect her to like it. That's how you retrain Diplomacy into Basketweaving.

She might not listen but fuck it.

[X] Goldfish

@Goldfish if I could make a suggestion? Add in releasing her friends, preferably during the conversation as a show of good faith. We've got to prove to her we practice what we preach and while we don't find the Seven our enemies we do not trust them out of hand.

If she wants to work with us she has to prove she's trustworthy enough to work with.

So she has principles then. It genuinely seems like she and at least Lucan are reasonable. It seems less and less likely that we'd splinter the faith without resorting to drastic action.

My thought is that we somehow leverage this into a diplomatic summit between the old gods and the new. Maybe have Yss arbitrate, get bloodraven to send a simulacrum as a representative. With the current status quo, we will be forced into war against the fate and trying this loses us nothing. It might be a bad idea, but it's what my sleep deprived mind came up with.

Frankly, the only way we can have our cake and eat it is if the seven willingly sacrifice enough power to satisfy the old gods. This humiliates the seven, but it can end up benefiting everyone.

The old gods are the first line of defence against the Others and more power to them means the better for Westeros.

If the seven say they won't have enough power to empower thier champions? Grow Wierwood trees and let the old gods pick up the slack. The old gods don't care for worship and the seven will regain thier power eventually.

This is probably unlikely but some compromise might be likely. At the very least, we might get some of the chosen to doubt and that'd be helpful for a schism. Maybe we can even get some of the chosen of the seven to sacrifice themselves for the people. Danielle at least has morals we can exploit.

Why would they be willing to trust us? Oaths probably. We're going to be a good king anyway. Swearing it in front of the old gods or something similar has us lose nothing to prove that.

Obviously, this is a lot of end-goal stuff rather than right now, but it's one am and I'm on a phone so it's hard to clearly communicate.

I'd say we start with being as reasonable as possible, and get Dannelle and maybe Lucan to agree to see our realm for themselves. Convince them we're on the level and then start making setups for a meeting.

This is going to take several sets of diplomatic combat but I feel like it might be possible. Thoughts? If it doesn't work, at least we tried. We'll at least get a glimpse of what kind of people the seven actually are and we can actually be justified in acting against them. There is the threat of the others bearing down on us to make people desperate, but there isn't as much animosity on the human representatives right now.

If we can get bloodraven and the chosen to get on board with basically herding our gods, the sheer amount of social prowess we bring to the table might make all of this work.

Thoughts? Is this or a version of this anywhere near viable to pursue?
That would be a great plan, but it seems unlikely to work.
I'd vote for an attempt though. Perhaps we could start by asking Bloodraven what the OG think of it?

Agreed, and on that note:
easily captured Lucan's companions without harming them, to see just how willingly they served him.
This is a lie. Just pointing that out.

That... actually sounds good. Let the gods themselves have it out, and hey, we could even get a few of our other divine patrons to mediate. We've already had an interplanar conclave, why not an inter-faith conclave?

Could you stick something on there about taking her to visit the Deep and show all these evils we are actively fighting against? I would totally back this if so.

And that's what doesn't make sense?

If we think Viserys is right, then it is only sensible to assume that we can convice other people of that.

That's what Diplo is for, to make people see that our view of the world is the correct one.

Which is ridiculous. How is she this naive? I really do not understand this character, but she's supposed to have been around and doing things for a while, surely she's learned something from her experiences.

Guys she is not saying 'you kidnapped my friends therefore none of the good you ever did matters', she is saying 'I need to know you are someone I can trust and I don't trust kidnappers and fearmongers, give a sign that you are not that alone'. She also really wants her friend back but feels it would be unethical to ask for her alone.

Lots of denial going around
People still Don't get that to the faith we are the bad guys.
Stop freaking trying to persuade Danelle that we are the best thing since sliced bread and let's get to what we came here for:

[X] Let's get to business
-The hostage won't be released, they are a valuable comodity. But assure her that they will be treated fairly.
-Call Lucan here so he can hear our demands.
-Lay out our objectives for the conclave guarantee the realease of the hostages if they play ball
-No faith militant; no strenghtening of its authority; splintering of it in fact.

Fucking seriously?
There I go and write a social vote on an evening where I should be rushing in the final stuff for my deadline I've been struggling against for weeks, and then @Goldfish writes a superior vote just afterwards! Stealing my shit too!

[annoyed]

[X] Goldfish

It's still a good vote though.

Fair enough. But at the same time they can't send a killer angel after our testicles and expect us to come in here singing Kumbaya and asking for the forgiveness of the Seven.

As far as I'm concerned yes stealing her friends was mean but they started this fight a long time ago.

We're just acknowledging that we remember it and are not going to just take them for their word.

Guys she is not saying 'you kidnapped my friends therefore none of the good you ever did matters', she is saying 'I need to know you are someone I can trust and I don't trust kidnappers and fearmongers, give a sign that you are not that alone'. So she wouldn't begrudge us, if we gave her friend back, as she was truly just an innocent bystander, but refused to return Lucan's people until we have negotiated with him, as he has proven by previous actions, that he's at least for the time being our enemy?

Because I'm very much inclined to release her friend, but I'm not much inclined to release, people working for the guy who summoned a Kingkiller to wreck our shit, even if that Kingkiller turned out to be a net positive, as it bled a lot of wrath out of the old gods when it died.

Sorry?

Mine isn't finished, but I will have to wait until I get home to take care of that. Busy here at work.

On a more serious note, we need to decide how we want to do this. If we're going full nice guy, we need to walk back the kidnapping and get ready to delay all faith related plans by months if not years. We also probably don't want to say we stole their friends "With the best of intentions" because we didn't, and they will probably call us on it. Meaning @Goldfish a legitimate apology is in order, not just a "sorry for offending you." Alternatively, be blunt in the fact we are holding on to Lucan's mages because he can't be trusted, but release Danelle's friends.

If we're going to be pragmatic about it...My baseball bat and/or @etincelle047's is still an option.

The problem with all of this is that DP has confirmed there is no negotiating if we don't release at least some of the hostages, preferably all. It's either that or accept she and Lucan will be our bitter rivals, and act accordingly.
